  1. Let's review the stay of Felix Diaz. He looked decent for three plus innings against a real good hitting Baltimore team and then ON THREE DAYS REST, was shelled by the Tribe when they were red hot. I think he deserves another shot.
  2. The highlight of my evening was meeting the man that caught Sadam. I don't know his rank but his name is Hickey. I went up to him and his friend also military and shook their hands and just said thanks. If was a little more sober I would have tried to say something a little more intelligent. I must say, it was very cool.
  3. Please look at our record for the fifth starter since the beginning of 2003. Then pretend the 5th starter went .500 (I know wishful thinking but we are well over .500 when 1-4 start in that same time frame) and recalculate our record. We would be up by about 5 games in the division this year and would have won it last year. How good would Kenny Rogers have been for us the last two years, and he is well over a .500 pitcher. On top of all of this, how overworked is the bullpen due to the fact that every time the 5th starter pitches, four of them will be used. Also, our starters never get an extra day of rest and therefore are being overworked. 5 days rest would be helpful from time to time.
  4. This sadly appears to be the new trend. Cub fans feeling they need to come to Comiskey in full uniform and root for the opponent. Then when a Sox fan takes a poke at them they dummy up.
  5. It could be EBIT, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you want to include Depreciation and Amortization to get a true income before giving Uncle Sam gets his, it is EBIT. The actual cash basis performance of the company is EBITDA. There are also some accruals and deferrals that you need to look at as well but we can cover this next class.
  6. Can Rauch be sent down after his next call up? I believe he is out of options. This would be a make or break call-up for him if that is indeed the case.
  7. Freddy would arguably be #1. Just because the Sox get a pitcher, that does not mean he is automatically #5.
  8. Who was Randy Johnson traded for?
  9. Sorry I got him confused with Burke, ugh. I guess I done with this topic.
  10. If Gload can play third this may be a bigger weekend series and Joe would like to think. I am not sold on his defense, he seems to have limited range and is not very good at charging the ball. I don't care about clutch hits and what not a sub .200 average without much speed is of no use to anyone. Uribe and Gload could be the answer. Joe's free pass is running out. The move for Joe could be in the form of a trade rather then benching because he can not be sent down. Angels and Mariners can use help at third.
  11. Rowand has had so much more success.
  12. If he is gone a month, we miss him. I don't care what the numbers say, I would still hate to face him. The guy was our best big game pitcher last year. We need one of these this year.
  13. Trade for Beltran and then he and Maggs leave after the season could give the Sox at least six picks in the top 40 assuming they get only one other sandwich pick for Valentin, Koch, Schoenweis or Loiaza if they leave via free agency. This would soften the blow of anything we were to give up for him which is why I am not sure KC will just give him up as they could use two picks as well.
  14. If you have 25 guys in the big leagues playing for any team you are successful. There was a report a couple of years back that had the Dodgers having 38 guys playing in the majors that they drafted or signed as a free agent (not eligible for teh draft.) The Sox had like 21. It was a very interesting story as you got to see where guys came from. For example, Frank Mennachino (sp?) was originally draffted by the Sox.
  15. So I am watching the WGN News at Noon and enjoying a very good sandwich when the sports gives this story. Later on in the same sports segment he tells us that Kerry Wood will throw today (he did this morning and it landed him on the DL,) which will determine his status for the weekend. The media in this town is disgracful. I can not even explain how he pronounced Martin Gelanias. It bordered on the Les Nesman pronunciation of Chi Chi Rodriguez on WKRP in Cincinnati.
  16. Beltran has two huge home runs (last inning) against US this year. Maggs has one in his a career. I am sorry, Maggs is not a money player. He puts up big numbers but does not make anyone around him better. What is his averager with RISP after the 6th inning? Carlos Lee has 11 RBI hitting behind a guy with about at .450 OBP and a guy hitting over .300 his overall average with RISP is about .150
  17. We should have been shut out yesterday. We weren't and we won, yipee. Why isn't Konerko hitting behind the runner or swinging for the fences to try and get a sac fly. Also, has any player on our team gotten better in the last 4 (2000-2004) years; Valantin Thomas Konerko Lee Crede hasn't improved one bit since he has come up. Harris and Olivo have shown signs, Uribe is up in the air. The difference between Beltre and Crede --- Beltre is 2 years younger. Garland has improved and is only 25 years old. This is what frustrates the hell out of me, the inconsistency.
  18. The continued decline of Damaso Marte may lead to Cotts having to be moved back to the pen. I wonder what the trade value of marte would be????
  19. Cooper made it sound like 3-5 innings tops and with the off day Monday the whole pen can be used without to great of a risk. They may try this scenario for a couple of outings to string Cotts out. I think they feel there is a trade in the works to solve the problem long term.
  20. Harry Chappas replied to The Beast's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They were talking on the radio this morning that Koch can throw over 97 but Coop wants him to throw 94-96 (as he is currently) and spot the ball better. I think it is working as he is not being hit. This leads to my next point. Guys are not hitting him and therefore he has to throw three strikes before he throws four balls. How many times has he gone 0-2 before a guy fouls off a few pitches and then draws a walk. He has not thrown many 4 or 5 pitch walks. I know he should be able to throw a 3-4 pitch strikeout. He has a long way to go before he can be compared to Marte. If Koch did what Marte did opening day, Friday against the Twins and his hi-wire act last evening. He was hit very hard last night and ahs all season. Koch has not been hit hard except for one game against the Royals and we won that game.
  21. Seattle has be reluctent to make moves in teh past and it has hurt them. Their willingness to release Aurilla or Olerud and spend on their contracts mean they need something moreso then we do. Valentin/Lee and Konerko would somewhat fit their needs. There seems to be some identical needs here starting with Konerko/Valentin for Olerud/Meche or Lee/Valentin/Pitcher for Garcia/Aurillia....
  22. The post on not taking pitches hits it right on the head. How many times do we get a guy 0-2 and they work the count by fouling off good pitches or laying off bad ones. Rowand last eve was 0-2 and swung at a ball 1 foot outside and at the letters. We do not fight off (foul) good pitches nor do we let bad pitches go by. Diaz was pitching on three days rest the key to the Tribe was to make him throw a a-lot of pitches and get to the pen early. Int eh same vain the Sox philiosophy swing at everything. Saturday night Seth Gesinger threw 64 through 6 innings.
  23. His first start he threw strikes and got hit hard. His second he tried to locate and got hit hard. 3 days rest as opposed to Garland on three days rest, sounds like we were somewhat conceding this game anyway. I am not sure about this guys stuff anyway. He threw his breaking balls up and I don't think he was in the 90's all that often with his fastball. His next start is definitly make or break, oh and it is against the Twins. A trade needs to be made ASAP.
  24. Harry Chappas replied to a post in a topic in Pale Hose Talk
With Glause (sp) down for possibly the year, if we wanted Washburn it would cost us Crede. Not sure I would be against this with Uribe moving to third.
  25. I sat through three days of that s*** and went to the Rush game yesterday to forget about it. I wanted to point out that we never foul off pitches and pop/fly out at an alarming rate. The post game press conference with Ozzie was great to hear and it seems to ahve made an impact, at least for one day.
