  1. My question is why does KW profess what his payroll is? This just adds fuel to the fire that is fan negativity. I think KW does a great job of not over-hyping our prospets so when they get traded there isn't a s*** storm in the media. Nobody is crying for Webster, Rupe or Royce Ring in media, they are here though, because we understand our prospects. KW does a great job of staying in control and not driving a deal through the media, where other teams can guage it and try jumping in. A close to home example is the fact that Bobby Hill and Hee Soop Choi are no longer with the cub. Going into Spring Training last year these two were the next Evers and Chance. Sure they got Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez but these guys are not saviors and they both are very expensive. They are providing the cub with what Choi and Hill were suppossed to but it is costing them $14M instead of $1M.
  2. I paid attention to your post until I got to the point wher Pudge was moved to second then i realized your post was a joke. You move players to fix holes. Olivo was moved for Bradford. Think Olivo will hit a breaking ball as good as karkovice? You trade Olivo and Maggs together to get a front line pitcher and other front line players from a team that has a glut of them. i.e. Maggs/Olvio - Ichiro/Garcia/Guillen - Soriano/a pitcher from a another team We lost last year and I thought we had the best team in the AL. In 2000 we had the best offense in baseball (same nucleus as last year, Thomas, Lee, Ordonez, Konerko,) and we failed miserably in 2000 as we did last year when it counted. How many more times are we going to ride that train and watch it fail in the end. Ordonez will leave after next year because someone will overpay for him. Do we want compensation for him now or watch him to a do a Colon? The only free agent that we lost that I wish we had was Colon. I would rather have Garcia and Ponson and maybe spend a little more on them and have it cost us Orodonez. As warm and fuzzy as Magglio is, he can't hit in cold weather, last time I looked it gets cold in Chicago in September.
  3. Favorite players are nice but winning is better. We would be getting a return on Maggs and Olivo. I don't agree with moving them but think of what could be had and holes addressed.
  4. If healthy, he was not very impressive last year which is why Quantrill and Gordon were brought in. I'd take him and Art Rhodes though for $4m for the two.
  5. I think KW is looking to free up $12M, easier said then done yes. The trade with the Dodgers (Ordonez) would do this. I am not sure who the 5 players we would get would be all that bad. Although I never really heard who they were, just SCR banter this morning about blowing the team up. With $12M we can make a run at Ponson and Garcia (3 yr - $18M each) stagger the money until after Koch, Konerko and Thomas are done and I like what we have. Buerhle-Loiaza-Garcia-Ponson-Garland-Perez (Dodgers) and we lose Ordonez (maybe Cotts or Rauch.) The thing would be, can these guys be had for 3yr/$18M? The guys are your list are nice but what would we do with them. We don't need a righthanded right fielder, Clemens ain't retiring to pitch here. Catcher is not a problem, Millwood is not worth $15M/yr and Maddux is over priced. Not sure where you want us to fit in here. Picking these guys up would be moves to make moves and that isn't very bright. Now, imagine what we could get for Ordonez and Olivo..........then sign Pudge?
  6. With the unbalanced schedule, they play and therefore beat one another more. The Central is just plain bad every year and one team backs in, usually not the Sox. We can easily win the division if we spend a buck or two.
  7. Nobody for Colon Nobody for Marte Nobody for #2 in Cy Young voting What is your point again?
  8. I drove down there, got there at 8:30 was told the seats would be sold out by the time I got the front, so I left. There was a limited quantity, we all knew this and they were sold. I really fail to see how this was the Sox fault. Standing in line at Soxfest for an hour trying to get in last year, that is a different story. Ticket prices going up 10%, now this is a problem. Piss poor baseball, is a problem. Not having enough seats to sell for charity, I shrug my shoulders to this. If there is a concert in a 3,500 seat venue and you are 3,501 in line whose fault is it?
  9. In year three of this deal Konerko and Thomas will both be gone and with them $15M in payroll. This deal puts the Sox in a good light, finally, going into the wekend. I get the feeling they will be coming home with Ponson or Maddux. This deal allows some fixed cost to be in place going into the meeting. Come on Kenny let your heair down and get some balls. Millwood/Madux and Ponson and I renew the tix.
  10. The Dodgers will not give up Brown and Perez. They may give up a reliever and starter but not 2/5 of their rotation unless Driefort is one of the two.
  11. What if we got Soriano and Weaver and NO cash? Would this be asking to much?
  12. Doug Padilla is a moron. O.K. I may be a moron if I am wrong here but didn't LA resign Alvarez and the Yanks sign Quantrill? These are the guys he had the Sox looking at. The paper also states that Kenny Rogers was too much money for the cub but the Sox are not mentioned in this. I wish there was an easier paper to read on the train. Konerko was on the cover of the Trib so I have to look around for it. Any help on that article would be appreciated, it talked about firstbase.
  13. Cancelled mine as the price has doubled since 1997. I realized there is no reason to have season tickets other than for Opening Day and the cub games. The remainder of the games can be bought as desired. I think tickets will be very easy to come by this year and the post season althoguh it may happen will not be much to see.
  14. I could see Lee (pitcher from NY or Chi) going to LA, Brown to Yanks, and Perez and Weaver to Chicago with the Yanks giving Sox $2M in cash. Weaver is a salary dump and we take a risk. If he pans out we have a solid rotation. If he doesn't we have Perez. I think LA would need pitching in return, maybe we get Mota.
  15. I believe these are players that do not have the service time in to be unrestricted free agents. Lee and Buerhle could be non-tendered because we do not want to pay them. A non-tender is a guy with less than 7 years of ML service time and the team has to give monry to that they do not want to. I think.
  16. Not to continue dumping but how was Belle a disater? Navaro was a disaster, Guillen may be a disaster, Bevington. Belle was the only good thing while Tapani was making Schueler look like a fool.
  17. No. Montreal will just about give Hernandez away.
  18. If they get Nomar, watch. Well we have Jose Uribe so we have that going for us.
  19. If second place in this crap division is a measure of success well then we are successful. I canceled my season ticket plan for next year (ranged from 27 to 81 games since 1991.) I will go to games as a casual fan this season, maybe 5. The casual fan will probably go to 1 or 2. The Sox will not draw 1.5M with the current team. Fans are tired ot the BS the owner who professes he wants to win but refuses to understand what it takes. Signing your players and taking risk is a major part of the game and he ruses to accept this. He wants guarantees (incentive based contracts,) and will not take the risk.
  20. We did this and what happened (white flag?) This team is a disgrace and embarassment to the city along with the Hawks, Bulls and Bears. Why isn't Terry Francona our manager, yet the second most intense team in baseball will hire him? Our owner refuses to risk money. We talk about how we have to blow up a team with teh $60M payroll. Teams are trying to cut $60M out of their payroll. We are a f***ing joke and a sorry excuse of an organization. There is no way Ozzie Guillen should be anywhere near running a team. Here is our line-up; Harris-Rowand-Thomas-Orodnez-Lee-Konerko-Crede-Valentin-Olivo Our rotation and bullpen suck. With a $65M in payroll we would walk away with this division but our owner is a complete piece of s*** that refuses to try and win. This is why we have lost a good portion of a decent minor league team(7) and major league team (6) from last year for nothing. This organization is a disgrace. Oh, and they think I am going to pay $500 for additional enjoyment for this crap next season. They are looney.
  21. In 1997 I paid $10 for my seat. This up coming year they want $24. Sorry but that ain't gonna happen. The are losing season tickets holders quicker than the Blackhawks. Man they really know how to piss people off. If Bart is back I will reconsider. I want my seat price to move like their budget, bottom half of baseball pricing, where are they???
  22. How many starts has Colon missed in his career? How is he any more of an injury risk than Vazquez? The money they save on Javier over Colon will be moot as Javier is a FA after this season. They also need to replace Johnson who was cheap. I felt that Colon for the $$$ and no talent being given up is better than Vazquez.
