Isn't there an old saying about learning from the past? Cheap=cheap, that is why it is cheap. If is worth anything it wouldn't be cheap.

They were under .500 last year. A new owner willing to spend was what allowed him to make the big moves. What did he do after they won? This is a case of making the GM's job easy. He did win though................

I have a feeling there has been talk with Boras and the Dodgers for a while and the deal is set pending new ownership approval. This could be the hold up in moving Perez and what not as well as Maddux not moving on anything. Funny how the I-Rod deal was finalized shortly after the signing as well as KW not doing much of anything. I think a big deal could be done. I still think it is for Ishii though and not Perez and is for Carlos Lee. Now the Yanks may take Beltre, Dodgers Ordonez, Angels one of the stud young Dodger guys and Sox Washburn. Ah who knows.

How does a GM that has been to the playoffs every year for the last 14 not make the list? Sure Robert Fick was a dufus and cost the Braves last year but he still wins with JULIO FRANCO.

Last evening proves what a good leader/coach/manager can do. I know it is a different sport but a good team with a great leader can win everything. A good team with an average manager will be average. This being said, I do not think Ozzie is the answer. I believe the answer was Gaston or Terry Francona. Anybody ask Ozzie about his quote about not needing the fans in 1994/95?????

Dan Jiggets predicts Reinsdorf sells team
Harry Chappas replied to CubsSuck1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
An interesting thing is that the Bulls are the third highest rated franchise in basketball. Imagine a deal to buy both of then as well as Wirtz looking to get out of the hectic situation in hockey. Imagine what soemone like trump could do with all of that land????? Oh to dream. -
The problem with him would be that he needs to make a profit from the team as well. We need an owner that will take a risk of losing money from time to time (i.e. absorb a contract instead of having to trade 6 prospects.)

Cotts is a lefty

Poll: Should Brian Sutter's Reign End?
Harry Chappas replied to C.Rector's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
New NHL thing all teams are doing it. White is the road color. Like football. -
It is situated where it is because EVERYONE wanted homeplate to be on the corner of 35th and Shields.

Burt Blyleven used ot give 35+ homeruns a year and is in the Hall of Fame. If you think the Sox rotation is better with Cotts or Rauch as opposed to Washburn I guess I would have to say that I missing something. Washburn was a key ingredient to a World Championship, Konerko and Valentin were key in one of the most disappointing seasons in White Sox history. I will not even go into the shortcomings of Rauch and Cotts other then they are below average pitchers that will average 5+ innings and an ERA of 5.5 if we are lucky.

The impression I got was that this guy was buying the team to knock down the stadium and develop the land????? Kind of like using Wrigley Field for the prime real estate.

Astacio, Osuna and Pat Mears. Should the earlier deal of Valentin go through (see Valentin to Angels,) we would need a utility guy. Mears is the same as Graffanino.

I actually have to agree. All of my information on the Sox comes from this website. 90% of the casual fans think the trades last year was Reinsdorf "going for it." On this site it was brought out that those trades cost us good prospects and JR padi no salary in exchange lost just about a minor league team to "go for it." Casual fans only cared that they were not Joe Borchard or Kris Honel so who cares and JR did nothing to hurt us in the future. Media coverage can go into the fact that this team could be better by trading Maggs not as a salary dump but a way to get Borchard/Reed playing time using Aaron and restocking with some top flight pitching prospects. These are the things that more than anything will draw fans to the park other than wins and losses. The media does more than anything to promote or kill a team. They are responsible for the negative approach to the upperdeck. Instead of comparing it to Cleveland, New York, Seattle, Texas, or pointing out that you can see everything without sitting behind a post they write it can not be sat in. Also the new centerfield arrangement did nothing but cut down on the sightlines of 50 or so fans. The media coverage and resulting appearence to the public hurts salary as much as anything. Instead of being a Pep Rally it is a detriment.

I cancelled my season ticket plan and was offered free passes for Saturday. The big thing will be is how close the Sox come to selling out Opening Day. A Tuesday at 1:00 in April, gonna be tough.
-
I would actually try and get both of them. In our s***ty division these guys could really excel, see Esteban Loiaza.

I think Murphy Brown is more likely then Kevin Brown.

You really shouldn't admit that you were 16 and getting your ass kicked by your 13 year old sister. Unless your sister is Nicole Bass.

I heard he was a bad influence on younger guys with a David wells type party lifestyle. Didn't he drag Sidney Ponson to a Metallica concert the day before a start aginst the Yankees or somehting like that. His character did seem to be an issue. Although that has never stopped KW before.

Ray Durham does not return my phone calls. I think it is safe to say everyone liked the personality of Ray Durham. If he didn't pop up a tad too often and had any range up the middle we would've loved him.
-
I also think maggs will cost the Dodgers Ishii (sp?)
-
Pick up Erickson and give him a shot what do we have to lose? I don't think he would get a guaranteed contract. You can never have enough mediocore to below average starting pitchers.
-
Marcus Pfizer, Jamal Crawford....

I think at the end of the day the White Sox will. they will have excess cash next offseason and will need to do something. Maggs will resign at $13-$15M a year.
