  1. How many people do you think go there to get stuff signed to try and make a profit off of it? An autographed ball for Buerhle if he wins the Cy Young = price of addmission. I always thought this was a decent percentage of the crowd. I was not there this year but it seemed to a draw for those that wanted Baines, Thomas, Ordonez, etc. in the past.
  2. ML = bigger strike zones and hitters that know it is easier to get to teh majors by hitting not walking. Reed does both and therefore is highly touted.
  3. He may have a moron for an agent or what if he just does not want to play here? The guy can not hit in cold weather therefore he may give a discount to a San Diego, Texas, Tampa, etc. the warmer the weather the better the player. The money thing could be a smokescreen.
  4. Sorry but I really have no faith in Cotts learning how to throw strikes. Control and plate discipline can not be taught, hence trading Cotts and Borchard would not be a bad thing. Trading Honel and Reed would. If Cotts threw strikes in the minors we would have something to work with.
  5. The reason this can come about is the Mariners lost $10 in salary and it opens them up to do some things. Imagine what would happen if all of a sudden Konerko walked into the White Sox front office and said, "I quit, rip up my contrct and save teh $8M for this year." This along with Maddux to the Dodgers (sale finalized) make the landscape very different then what it was a week ago. I think the Mariner deal may have to include Koch with us paying half his salary.
  6. I forgot about Cliff. Our bullpen has some promise to it. Soriano would start here and probably cost us Cotts.
  7. The fact this is coming out of Seattle makes it more reliable. If KW is awake the next two weeks could be huge. This trade would be nice. What keeps Seattle (huge pitchers park) out of the Maddux race? We could garcia for the salary pick-up.
  8. Maddux will not sign with the cubs if LA offers equal or more money. The team is still the team that screwed him yers ago I think the whole cubbie thing on Maddux is just BS press to keep their name in the paper.
  9. Ryan Meaux
  10. If the Sox realize that they compete against the cubs as much as anyone, they will want to get the Dodgers to sign Maddux. I think this is where Maddux wants to go as well. With the pitchers park and that bullpen he would be unstoppable. Now what do I think the Sox want to do???? If the Dodgers will take on salary, Konerko will be going there for Perez or Ishii. There was an idea floated about the Angels and Yankees and Troy Glause (sp?.) Get the Dodgers in the mix and you can move Beltre to the Angels, Maggs to the Dodgers, Glause to the Yanks, Yanks prospects to Angels, and for us Perez, Washburn and Erstad. I now this is fantasy baseball stuff but I really think KW needs to look at Maddux and realize if he goes to the cubs, the Sox will have to win 20 games more than the cub to even be recognized in this town. Think sox=blackhaws. The deal I would love is Konerko for Ishii but think it will be Perez and we pay the salary difference. Thomas for Ishii may be realistic. Although if the new owner was to really make news (top Colon/Guerrero in southern California) he will want Maggs and Maddux. This could get us Ishii and a stud or Both top prospects. Depends on what Evans feels he needs to do to save his job.
  11. Change you screen name you are an embarrassment to the Southside Irish.
  12. Isn't there an old saying about learning from the past? Cheap=cheap, that is why it is cheap. If is worth anything it wouldn't be cheap.
  13. They were under .500 last year. A new owner willing to spend was what allowed him to make the big moves. What did he do after they won? This is a case of making the GM's job easy. He did win though................
  14. I have a feeling there has been talk with Boras and the Dodgers for a while and the deal is set pending new ownership approval. This could be the hold up in moving Perez and what not as well as Maddux not moving on anything. Funny how the I-Rod deal was finalized shortly after the signing as well as KW not doing much of anything. I think a big deal could be done. I still think it is for Ishii though and not Perez and is for Carlos Lee. Now the Yanks may take Beltre, Dodgers Ordonez, Angels one of the stud young Dodger guys and Sox Washburn. Ah who knows.
  15. How does a GM that has been to the playoffs every year for the last 14 not make the list? Sure Robert Fick was a dufus and cost the Braves last year but he still wins with JULIO FRANCO.
  16. Last evening proves what a good leader/coach/manager can do. I know it is a different sport but a good team with a great leader can win everything. A good team with an average manager will be average. This being said, I do not think Ozzie is the answer. I believe the answer was Gaston or Terry Francona. Anybody ask Ozzie about his quote about not needing the fans in 1994/95?????
  17. An interesting thing is that the Bulls are the third highest rated franchise in basketball. Imagine a deal to buy both of then as well as Wirtz looking to get out of the hectic situation in hockey. Imagine what soemone like trump could do with all of that land????? Oh to dream.
  18. The problem with him would be that he needs to make a profit from the team as well. We need an owner that will take a risk of losing money from time to time (i.e. absorb a contract instead of having to trade 6 prospects.)
  19. Cotts is a lefty
  20. New NHL thing all teams are doing it. White is the road color. Like football.
  21. It is situated where it is because EVERYONE wanted homeplate to be on the corner of 35th and Shields.
  22. Burt Blyleven used ot give 35+ homeruns a year and is in the Hall of Fame. If you think the Sox rotation is better with Cotts or Rauch as opposed to Washburn I guess I would have to say that I missing something. Washburn was a key ingredient to a World Championship, Konerko and Valentin were key in one of the most disappointing seasons in White Sox history. I will not even go into the shortcomings of Rauch and Cotts other then they are below average pitchers that will average 5+ innings and an ERA of 5.5 if we are lucky.
  23. The impression I got was that this guy was buying the team to knock down the stadium and develop the land????? Kind of like using Wrigley Field for the prime real estate.
  24. Astacio, Osuna and Pat Mears. Should the earlier deal of Valentin go through (see Valentin to Angels,) we would need a utility guy. Mears is the same as Graffanino.
