  1. Pedro Martinez has stated point blank that he will pitch for the Yankees in 2005. Do the Yanks want both of these guys? As awesome a rotation as that would be, the Yanks need to look at position players and bullpen; and trim some fat, goo may be the casualty. The Red Sox on the other hand are looking to trim some payroll and goo may not fit in there either. $36M is a-lot to pass up when the turmoil exists as it does in baseball today. Could Robbie explain that NY is not as good as it sounds. And Carl the same for Boston? The more I think of this offer the more I think Bart has something to think about. Remember Wood and Martinez may be available next year as well as Loiaza. I think the manager being named is important and could have a little chat with Colon and get him to see things in a different light.
  2. IMO the Twins are not that good and took advantage of a good situation (weak divison.) Radke and Santana were unhittable after the break. Lohse was hot and cold but as I stated they have a bullpen that was unhittable, like ours in 2000. If your not going to spend on a bullpen or starting pitching you are going to be done by the end of August. For a prime example see today's Twins game and the last five times they played us. Look no further than the cubs, they have bad defense so their starters strike out an inordiante numebr of guys.
  3. That is the price of good pitching. I do not think it is to high. Teams get to the playoffs with proven starting pitching. In the end that was what carried the Twins and why the Yanks win over 90 games a year, as well as the Red Sox and A's. We won't spend it elsewhere either. The Reds (pre-fire sale,) Astros, and Rangers can hit with anyone and where are they. You combine good starting pitching with good defense and you have something. If your starters are not that strong you need a really good pen but can get by with a mediocore pen with top flight starters. Other than the Angels last year everyone that wins does it with pitching, not offense. This goes back to the beginning of time. All things being equal, the pitcher has the easy part under pressure in the playoffs.
  4. There is an off day tomorrow. Use them all, when was the last time they played a meaningful game, courtesy of the Chicago White Sox. Hawkins and Guardado two innings each and they go home. I do agree with leaving Reed in there though.
  5. I think he meant last year. Increased prices and increased sales should equal increased payroll.
  6. The biggest move and most discussed did not come until today, 4 months too late.
  7. Wegmen and Cuzzi are both working the cub series on different crews who did they have problems with? I think these were guys that were bad for us.
  8. Yanks 3 Twins 1 Boston 3 A's 2 Yanks 4 Boston 2 cub 3 Atlanta 1 SF 3 Fla 1 SF 4 cub 2 Yanks 4 SF 2
  9. Who is out there that is proven??? I agree with you but winners are a rare commodity.
  10. This works if done properly. I assume Magglio will be traded for youth if Colon is signed. I think this is a good direction.
  11. Yankees have already told Kenny, we ae going to offer 5 years $60M so look good on paper and offer him this. This deal makes sense as Loiza can leave after next season, buerhle the next and Colon the third.
  12. Budget is set at $55M. Maggs is set at $14M, Buerhle will get at least $2M in arbitration and Schoenweis and Garland will get at least $1M in arbitration. Remove Colon, Cabrarea, and Castillo and you may be correct although I do not think they will give Konerko and Koch away as they both could turn it around. Sorry but I think they will lose all their free agents and pick-up a jouryman pitcher and sell us on the growth of players. Next year I think they will be the same as this with more hitting and less pitching.
  13. This team always states this s*** and it never pans out. They know somebody will sign Colon to big money so by saying this they get to do the old, we couldn't afford him compared to the Orioles, Yankees, Red Sox s***. This team does not spend money on pitching so why start now. My guess 4 years $37M, the Yankees will offer 5yr, $60M. Then we can say we tried as feeble as it might be and then complain when we can't sign a free agent because they went hard after Colon. Colon is 30 years old, he will want at least 5 years. Nice try KW, offers mean s***.
  14. The Sox threw beer on the fans in Minnesota and showered the fans on the ooponents field. Where is Jimmy Piersal at to complain about this now?
  15. My refund was credited back, to the penny before the end of the season. Wow, I give the Sox credit for the timliness. Although I stated I would not renew until I saw what they did this is a step in the right direction. Now for the price increase.
  16. I agree that LaRussa is overrated but he is much better than the options. If Ozzie Guillen is anywhere near the top of the list i will no longer be more than a casual fan.
  17. Kind of like the Sox this year
  18. LaRussa and JR are pretty close friends. I think there is more merit here than speculation. It will depend on what JM wants to spend. If the cub go deep JM will have to spend to keep a shaky fan base that is as disappointed as ever. Season tickets may drop below 5,000 if the cub make the postseason. I am not renewing at any level, well I'll a 7-game for the opener, if they don't spend.
  19. Did you happen to hear them talking about the second guessing of pitching to Casey and chimp not wanting to speak his mind and Stone blasting Baker for pitching to Casey. I get the feeling that there is no love lost between Stone and dusty baylor.
  20. The thing is what happens to Don Cooper. Wherever Tony goes, Dave Duncan follows.
  21. Mick had the sauce, sam has the juice. They're not watching my kids so let baseball handle it.
  22. Would add even more spice to the Sox/Cub rivalry.
  23. I just turned off XRT and now US99 because I do not want to hear about cub playoff push coverage. Is sportsradio not enough? Looks like CD's for the rest of the day.
  24. I should've used green on the Manny for Maggs quote. The reason maggs will go is if he will not renegotiate his deal and we fear losing him to Free Agency.
  25. Aren't they both over .500? Fogg get shelled last Friday didn't he. KW should win GM of the year if they both pick up wins!
