  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 31, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) The one reason it's a little tasteless is because he's on "vacation" in Chicago. FWIW, it's not worth the "outrage", but I can see why some consider it a bit tacky. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 31, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) It's not. But I can see where people could say it could be in that he's only "vacationing". As I said, there's a lot more things to get "outraged" about then this. Why is it a little tasteless for him to go to Lincoln? You've given sympathy to the idea that its tasteless, but you're just saying it's not tasteless enough to get outraged about. I can see where people say lots of dumb, irrational things to criticize someone they don't like; this is one of them. There's zero legitimacy to that point unless Arlington is somehow more important than Lincoln.
  2. Well, Israel's story was that their IDF soldiers were attacked when they (probably illegally, because it was still international waters) boarded the flotilla boats, so they had to respond by killing 9 of them. Some video shot by Al Jazeera doesn't jive with their cover story, instead indicating that the IDF began firing tear gas and stun grenades aboard the boats before boarding them and that shots were fired and someone was killed before the first boat was boarded. http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0531/raw-video...-boarding-ship/
  3. It was the Free Palestine group. They were making a political statement and breaking the blockade. I would doubt that there was anyone of value on that ship or weapons. This was meant to cause a confrontation, and it would completely destroy the protesters' message if they were found to have been smuggling weapons or people.
  4. Going to Arlington (near DC, where the President generally is) isn't tasteless, but going to Lincoln (near Chicago, where Obama happens to be) is. Why?
  5. I find it tasteless that it's somehow a dishonor to go to Lincoln National Cemetery instead of Arlington. Are the people buried there any less worth of memorializing?
  6. Balta's got some safe, clean toothpaste and children's toys to sell you. Oh, and some great land by an electronics recycling facility. And some food for your dogs and cats. Also, employment opportunities for your small child. kap is equating China with socialism and then trying to tar balta's position as "you want us to be China!"
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 29, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) No, I don't admit that. YOU are the one that runs around claiming we need more regulation and government control on everything. You even posted how great their economy is. I'm claiming no such thing, you are. :lolhitting :lolhitting Yeah, when I think Chinese industrial power, I think strict government regulations!
  8. Well, if government is so easily bought, sold and manipulated, it really is useless. eta: useless for actually protecting public interest, not useless for protecting corporate interest.
  9. Why the f*** was anyone allowed to drill if they had zero clue on how to fix a problem like this if it occurred? I'm sure it's more than just BP's experts coming together to find a solution, but they've been dealing with this for over a month now and seem just as clueless as day one. Why weren't contingency plans in place before the first bore hole was drilled? edit: What was the environmental fallout from the Iaxtac well? That was a huge amount of oil, but it obviously didn't destroy all of the Gulf fisheries.
  10. Says the guy who insists it is socialism writ large.
  11. If he thinks that's a balk, he clearly does not.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:40 AM) I'm not against gays, I'm just worried this will lead to an increase in soldier rape! /family research coincil. If we let gays in, we might as well let men shower with the women!
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:28 AM) One of my kids tried the "homosexuality doesn't happen in nature", when I replied (falsely those damn dolphins) that sex for pleasure doesn't happen in nature so that must be "unnatural" he deflated. It's not just dolphins that do it for fun. "It's against the laws of nature" is just a restatement of the biblical condemnations. Homosexuality occurs in many species.
  14. Shocker: philosophy and psychology bachelors degrees don't get you good jobs.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:53 AM) The whole premise here is stupid. We are steps down the chain by the time he tosses his glove. If West actually knew what a balk actually was, he never calls Buehrle for a balk, and Buehrle never gets a chance to get tossed. Its either that or he has some sort of irrational problem with Buehle, Ozzie, the White Sox, or whatever. Either way, he is being unqualified to do what he is doing. Picking out just Buehrle's actions here is completely missing the big picture. It goes back to umpires being little tyrants of the baseball field. They can do whatever they want, and players and managers have no real recourse during the course of a game.
  16. They don't hate gay people, Balta, they just want more reviews! And reviews of reviews! We can never be too careful about letting the insidious gays into the military, you know. Look what it has done to other countries.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) LMAO. And there's some ocean property in Arizona to sell you. The "compromise" on health care was for the DEMOCRATS, not Republicans. And it's still government run health care - the bill IS a public option but evidently comprehension seems to be lacking on this point. :lolhitting :lolhitting :lolhitting :lolhitting Uh, yeah, that's how compromise works.
  18. I haven't played it in a few days on multiplayer, but I was getting it over the weekend. Haven't had xbox install any updates either.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) And you can do it with any program. That's just a copout. Plenty of mystery stories have satisfactory endings and character motives that actually make sense.
  20. Vote Democrat -- we're corporate shills, too, but we're a fraction of an inch better!

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) Who cares? Do you need to be told how Jacob has the power to give Richard eternal life? Or do you just accept it? That issue has nothing to do with the overall plot of the show, only a way to introduce characters like Juliette, and to create intense seasons about Sun and Jin. You're shifting goalposts. It was a central issue for a while on the show, and then was dropped completely without explanation. Like dozens of other things. I can't define the line, but there's things in fantasy genre that don't need explanation and things that do. With Lost focusing on so much minutia, these things should have been explained. Star Wars didn't have a motif on what the force was, so you didn't need a background explanation (and when Lucas tried he destroyed it). Lost focused on this issue for about half a season and foreshadowed it for two before that. Then it was completely forgotten.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) We'll, there's no convincing you otherwise, but to me I think a lot of these things have answers. You can't explain every mysterious thing. They might not have come out and had two people have dialogue about it, but there's enough there for you to draw your own conclusion. Some stuff they introduced and never got back to, but it's not like they dwelled on anything for so long and then just ignored it (without a reasonable explanation why, like the Walt thing). They gave hints as to what the answer is/should be for 99% of the important unknowns. Island pregnancy. It was a central issue to the actions of the Others in the first few seasons and it was why Juliet was on the island. But no explanation was ever given.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) while I understand the writers wanted it to be about the characters, you guys can't tell me thats why you tuned in.... you didn't watch the next episode to hopefully see sayid and nadia get together, you watched because the ended episodes with charlie saying "guys, where are we"...and you tuned in the next week to see the answers to the questions they purposed in the episode before....and i can't help but feel like alot of those questions went unanswered.... im less mad about the finale because i came to the realization at the beginning of season 6 that many, many, many of those questions would be unanswered....they just didnt have the time to at that point Exactly. There's a difference between a MacGuffin (like the case in Pulp Fiction) and plot holes.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 25, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Consider yourself lucky. I get the disappearing glitch in multiplayer all the time.
