  1. how's Frank been in the both?
  2. What are you even going on about? Bush had s***ty, heavily-pro-business-especially-in-energy policies. I just said Obama really hasn't done much to fix them until this major clusterf*** happened. I really don't know what the right solution is here or with regulation in general. We see what happens when we deregulate--we get f***ed over by businesses. We see what happens when we regulate--we get f***ed over by businesses and their paid-for politicians.
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 14, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Yup. And by that same token, the current administration has had a year and a half to correct this "s***ty policy", now hasn't he? So he's got just as much oil on his hands as GWB. And, for the record, it was an accident, so neither are to "blame"... but you people can't get the f*** over your hard on Bush hatred. Yeah, they have had time to correct. They haven't. That doesn't change who started the s***ty policies when. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/14/us/14agency.html It was an "accident" that, as of now, has all the hallmarks of incompetence, cutting corners, marginal legality and fraudulent testing and reports. Running a red light while drunk and plowing into a tree is an "accident", too, but it comes with responsibility.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 14, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Yup. Every motherf***ing bad things that happens, anywhere, anytime, is George W. Bush's fault. Every bad thing that happens as a direct result from GWB's s***ty policies is, at least partially, his fault.

I've found Jack ok lately, but I think just about every Lost fan was cheering when Kate was shot.
  6. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 14, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) Balta, is there any idea what the size of this reservoir is? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/14/us/14oil.html Take with large grains of salt. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 14, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) BP CEO: Assuming he weighs a buck-eighty, and a .50 cal bullet weighs only about .1 lbs, why, that's hardly anything at all!
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 14, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Occupied America: A History of Chicanos Yeah, that sounds all inclusive and stuff. Crack open a standard US history textbook and let me know how much a Chicano (or really any ethnic minority) is going to learn about their culture or background. You go Mesopotamia->Egypt->Greece->Rome->Medival Europe->Colonialism->US. That's fine, and it's an important part of history. There's nothing wrong with seeing certain aspects of history from a US-centric viewpoint. But you can't pretend it somehow covers all cultural backgrounds or is "all-inclusive".
  8. Seriously, isn't White Male Christian European History good enough for them? Why do they need 'ethnic' studies that only serve to divide?

Over/ under on new characters to be introduced in the next two episodes? 3?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) It has an awful lot of uses in electronics and other industrial applications. So does copper. It's intrinsic or useful value outside of "looking pretty" isn't really all that much, which is why I don't get the people who think going back to a gold standard is the solution to many problems.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) X2>X1, Spiderman 2 > Spiderman 1. IMO, in some of these superhero movies, the sequel is actually set up to be better, because you don't need to spend 45 minutes introducing the character, you can assume the character exists and start off with a plot line. One of the complaints about Iron man2(have not yet seen it) seems to be a lot of dithering at the beginning. The reviewer on NPR summed up the plot line as a dispute over patent claims.

  13. why the hell do we value a shiny rock so much, anyway?
  14. That's awesome. I wish we had one somewhere in Chicago.

  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I guess I'll be the one to post it, just padding my post count. Someone was gonna post it eventually. It's a legitimate campaign ad from Alabama. Yes, we live in that country. Byrne's response:
  18. Comcast. No other option and I hate it.
  19. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Whatever...I got his point... I don't need hard data... His point is wrong because of the data. Why is that hard to understand?
  20. REplay confirms that that was a terrible call.
  21. That looked like a terrible call.
  22. beckham with a hit here. maybe starting to turn it around? He crushed one yesterday but it died in the air thanks to the weather.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) There's really no evidence that the Egyptians ever explored that part of the world though. Polynesians were exploring the Pacific in the late BCE (ie 300 BCE-0BCE), but the people on the island looked more like germanic europeans than asian or even mediterranian.
