QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) What are you talking about? Recently in New York, police shot and killed an unarmed person and wounded two bystanders. Something similar happened either early this year or last year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 04:33 PM) Right, just figure if it turns out some bystander was shot it's another case of "shootings" being reported where it's actually just police officers shooting in crowded areas. I haven't heard of anyone else being shot, just the driver. And a police officer was injured when she drove into him.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) Still haven't seen anything about woman being armed. I haven't either, but watch that video above. She was trying to run over multiple police officers. edit: or at least willing to run them over in an attempt to flee

The Capitol building and the White House aren't exactly close. I'm wondering how shots were heard there if she rammed her car into barricades at the WH.

Reid said a police officer was shot edit: anyone watching CNN? How hilariously awful has their coverage been of this one?

WASHINGTON (KABC) -- The U.S. Capitol has been placed on lockdown after shots were fired outside the building. A female suspect has been killed, a source told ABC News. A source told ABC News that initial reports were that someone tried to ram the gate at the White House, and then fled to Capitol Hill. There was a short pursuit, and shots were fired. It's unclear if the suspect or officers fired the shots. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=...&id=9272756

There's plastic, metal and fiberglass. The plastic ones work fine. You can also get stiffer fiberglass rods and long, flexible drill bits for when you're drilling up a floor.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) The current CR keeps the sequestration levels. What if the Democrats countered with a proposal that delayed the individual mandate for a year, repealed the medical device tax, but raised the CR to the pre-sequestration levels? That would be a hell of a deal for the Republicans. The sequester was supposed to be painfully stupid for everyone involved. Why not just vote on a clean CR that would easily pass both houses and be signed into law?

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) Because they are attaching riders to things that should be a clean vote. Why hasn't Boehner voted for the 3 clean CRs the Senate has passed? Why has the house suddenly moved to regular order? You want negotiations? How about "okay obama, we'll give you some part of the immigration bill, if you delay x from obama care" That's a negotiation. Both sides give and get something. A negotiation is not "Okay, we're going to take down this country unless you pass all these bills we want!" FWIW, the Democrats have been asking the Republicans to go into budget reconciliation negotiations for months. The Republicans have refused to allow this process to happen.

My dad's also been furloughed. They'll be able to float for a little while, but like almost all public employees, they'll start feeling the pinch if this thing drags on very long.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Why won't Reid allow a vote on any of the CR's that the House sent them? They'll be vetoed by the president. Are you going to answer any of the other questions? Edit: also I'm pretty sure the Senate did vote them down?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) lol, I wish I had finished reading the thread before my last post No it needs to be repeated over and over. We are only here because hardcore conservatives hate ObamaCare. That's it.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) I have a hard time swallowing taxpayer subsidization of higher education when so many universities have $1B+ endowments. I was thinking vastly improved funding of state schools. At a bare minimum, restoring the huge cuts. Not giving money to Harvard.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Seriously, just pass the damn cr with a delay on Obamacare and then your shutdown is over. Then get your asses back into session and decide this thing NOW, but COMPROMISING, not saying you will do it my way only, clean, or i won't pass it. reid has had multiple chances to do it, and failed to do so. Both sides are playing politcs here, you choose to only vilify one. Why won't Boehner allow a vote on a clean cr and a clean debt ceiling in the house?

Why is anybody supposed to consider these as legitimate bargaining chips and not ransom demands?

If taxpayer subsidization of higher education would solve the problem, why not?

That's fish tape. It's for pulling wires through conduits/walls. It's a long, flexible plastic rod. No idea how you'd find the pre-wired speakers if they didn't terminate them at a panel or left them in an outlet box.
