  1. We need that power he hit for in 2005. .283/.327/.506 is great from a SS with a good glove like Juan. But he hasn't sustained his numbers since then. If we can upgrade please do so. But we have other positions (LF, possbily 3B) to address first. Just to strike up conversation, how do you guys feel about Julio Lugo?
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) Not surprising Twins are stupid for even trying to pitch him again. It's not worth ruining him forever, which I'm guessing after today he is done for the season. Hopefully he didn't tear anything. Yea this was a dumb move. As much as I hate to say it, this team is probably a playoff team without Liriano. But Liriano was a dumbass too. Pitching with pain and trying to be the hero is a huge no-no. He got lucky, he really could have sustained a huge injury.
  3. I'll blame the Oz before I blame Owens. I'm not sure why Jenks was back in there. We know he has a sore hip and we've seen his struggles. I would have rather seen Mac, but woulda coulda shoula.
  4. Only Logan and B-Mac can make it that interesting. But a win is a win. I got some good seats for tommorrows game, looking foward to it. Sabathia's big ass will be tough though. His ERA since the ABS is just a shade over 3.
  5. Oh well, at least Lance Broadway was good.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) If you go by fielding percent you have to compare the player to others of his position. And of 1B with enough games to count Morneau is in the bottom half of the league in fielding % while Jeter/Dye are more close to middle of the pack. By saber standards, and yes I know not too many of you care but I'll throw them out here anyway , your absoltley correct. Morneau is a below average fielding 1st, while Dye and Jeter are around average to slightly below average fielder's at thier respective positions.
  7. I say Detriot. I simply believe if Minnesota makes the playoffs with Liriano healthy you could crown them as World Champions before the damn thing is over. Two things that win in the playoffs, that show a statistical correlation: Good pitching and good defense. Whats crazy is that the Twins aren't playing very good defense, but they can pitch. I do not want Minnesota in October. I'd rather see Detriot.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Agreed, he ain't Jermaine Dye yet. He isn't much yet period. He's a hell of a talent though, and I want to see him in AAA next season.
  9. Get this man some control and we have a real legit prospect here. K rates are delightful.
  10. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) Ozzie is full of crap. It was his crackpot idea to put him in vs. lefties only and now he's b****ing because he needs more AB's. He needs to be faster? What kind of s*** is that? What the hell does he want out of Brian? He's been doing good lately, what more does he want damnit? I'd suspect a bit more power. But you won't get that from Juan Pierre.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Call me crazy, but I have a feeling that Ozzie wants to see Juan Pierre leading off in CF for the Sox next year. We have one Podsednik. He'll likely be traded. I don't want a marginally better Pods in CF. Brian Anderson > Juan Pierre.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Bottom line he'd be a better everyday player than Pods at this point. So would quite a few bench players. My problem with Pablo is he's good guy to hit against LH'ers every once in a while, thats it. His OBP is completley fueled by is high and unsustianable batting average. I'd rather see Sweeney leadoff everyday before Pablo to be completley honest. But I will agree with you in one area: His is a better option than our boys Pods.
  13. Just hit his 45th homer of the season. He now has 45 long ones and 40 strikeouts. Only 10 times in ML history a player has ended up with more HR's than times struck out. Can he accomplish this feat? I say yes. Thoughts?
  14. Lol, all right I get the picture. In all fairness Jenks doesn't have the nicest peripheral stats, but has been used in some of the highest leverage situations, and simply put, he's got it done. Although it would be nice to see Macdougal in there now and then if he can pitch like he did in 2003.
  15. The MacDogual trade looks even better right now. Just out of curiosity, even though Jenks has only 3 BS, would anyone prefer seeing Mac in the closer's role?
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 08:05 AM) Since the ASB, Howard has splits of .360/.496/.806. That's an OPS of 1.302. If Philly end up getting the wild card spot, there's no doubt Howard should be the NL MVP. It also raises the question, if you were building a team, would you take Howard over Albert Pujols right now? Agreed. Even if Philly doesn't get the spot, I would still strongly consider him a candidate.
  17. All I keep pondering is why we traded for Vazquez. Instead of Anderson as our future CF we could have been looking toward Chris Young to fill that hole.
  18. Bullpen has been a huge dissapointment. I can't really blame the Oz for using B-Mac. The two guys you put in the highest leverage situations were used in MacDougal and Jenks. Cotts has been terrible and he like the HR this year too. Riske has just been so-so. Don't like the idea of Logan or Haeger either. But what can you do. Tough loss, need to bounce back tommorrow. What's most dissapointing is that we could not hit Tavarez at all.
  19. QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 02:56 AM) You want Ozzie to bench pods for the rest of the year? Absolutley. At this point there is a good chane Sweeney ir anyone if RF really is going to be more productive than he is. Leadoff man with speed or not, his OPS is sub .700's. That hurts a lineup, especially when you get the most PA's.
  20. Here's my take. AL teams should hit and hit with power. Screw bunting, and even stealing really in low leverage, or simply put, in the early innings of a ballgame. Now if you need one run go for it. Percentages show that with a runner on 3rd and 1 out your chances of scoring the 1 run are a bit higher than a runner on 2nd with no outs. Could fluctuate depending on who's at the plate, but you get the pitcture. I just don't want to see any sac bunts or such going on in the early innings. Wasted outs really just kill rallies.
  21. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) You are absolutely right. the 2005 book wrote some of the meanest, dismissive predictions I've ever read about the Sox. And read the 2006 book. They didn't admit they were wrong. They suggested the Sox were lucky and statistical freaks for winning all those one-run games. I read Baseball Prospectus. But they have folks there who enjoy bashing the crap out of the White Sox, especially Kenny Williams. So what? They did the same last season and we shut them up so who cares? Thier analysis at least has some evidence behind when they criticize a team or his GM, unlikey others in the newsmedia. And yea, I do believe with them they were lucky last year, but who gives a damn becuase we won right. It's tough to look down the road and find a team that hasn't won without luck, every team needs a few leprechans here and there.
  22. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I am trying to find a site where they show a player's stats by the day of the week. I know cbs and yahoo do not go into that detail. Anyone know a site? I know the tv networks always have this so it hopefully can be had outside of elias Try baseballmusings.com day-by-day database.
  23. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) Ryan Sweeney > Chris Young & Brain Anderson Probably better than Brian Anderson in the longrun, but there is absolutley NO circumstantial evidence showing he will be any better than Young. Young has the same "Ability" everyone drools over, maybe even more overall talent, and his numbers are better too. Sure Sweeney is younger, but don't jump to the gun real quick. Young is better than both of those guys.
  24. I will agree with the whole Cubs portion, don't let them bring you down Sox fans, just ignore them if they give you any crap regarding the WC race or any sort of "choke" if we do fall later in the season. But screw the whole "savor the title" thing. I did that the entire winter and its time to move on. Don't live in the past.
