QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) Phase 2 already? Nice. Love to hear how its going. Yeah, it's going alright...given that I am already accustomed to the P90X workouts, and in pretty solid shape prior to starting, I didn't spend a lot of time on phase 1. Did about 4 weeks, felt good about moving forward to phase 2. Kind of jacked up my knee playing football then, and had to take about a week off. Figured I didn't want to mess with another week of Phase 1 or the transition week...so just dove into phase 2. After doing these cycles for basically the last 4 years, I have a pretty good idea of how it works. This isn't to say that I couldn't have stuck with phase 1 longer; I certainly could of...but I was a bit bored with the routines outside of the Challenge, so decided to move along.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Nope, never done it. Here is the only workout advice you'll ever need. Rule #1: Doing something is better than doing nothing. Rule #2: Try a bunch of different workouts, from weight training to Yoga and find out which you actually like doing, and then do that while keeping rule #1 in mind. Yes, there will always be more intense/harder/crazier workouts out there, but that doesn't matter. Find something you'll keep doing (because you like doing it) and don't worry about someone else burning 700 calories in the same time it takes you to burn 300. In 6 months when they're gaining 700 calories because they've quit doing their crazy workout, you'll still be going strong. Great post. I agree wholeheartedly. I've got a ton of different workouts I've tried and it's great to chose the ones that work best for you, that you can live with and sustain, and work into your schedule. Everyone is unique. The key is to do something two-four times a week along with a reasonable diet.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread

Look at his freaking eyes though...dude looks like he's hammered. -
DA has made some good points here...just because you're bargain shopping or dumpster diving doesn't mean there are no deals out there to be had. It doesn't put the amount of blame on them, that a team who had similarly bad results and spent more money might deserve, but it doesn't magically remove all blame just because they didn't prioritize that part of the organization as much as other clubs.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Nope. To be brutally honest I quit because of a number of contributing factors including: 1) Breakup (long time ago now, not a factor anymore but it started the spiral months ago) 2) Not knowing what I wanna do with my life 3) The above getting me addicted to a video game that I've spent every waking non-working moment playing the last couple months 4) All of the above contributing to a general malaise So sick and tired of the above, but I've got jack s*** for motivation to do anything right now. And it's weird... because for the majority of my life I've always been the polar opposite. Whatevs. Just curious...what game?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) My college roommate is the guitarist for Lauryn Hill, and is about to be on Letterman. That is crazy to me How long has he been playing with her? I saw her a few years ago out here.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 05:26 AM) Facebook's new app Paper is pretty good, at least on IOS. I don't think anyone would disagree that G+ is a leaner/meaner product than Facebook, and the things it does it does very well, unlike FB, which is more of a jack of all trades/master of none. But when you look at it that way, it's easy to have a limited product do it's limited actions much better than a vastly larger product like Facebook. In the end, G+ is just a limited version of FB, and the most important commodity in these services is the community, which just isn't there. Oh, and I'm not really a huge fan of Facebook either, but that's where the people are, and without people, these services are useless. Facebook grew organically, because people WANTED to be a part of it, whatever it was that FB had that caused people to do that, G+ is missing it. Most of it's growth thus far wasn't organic, it was forced by Google, which led to most of the G+ accounts that exist to go unused or ignored. Facebook really exploded because of college students latching onto it as a better way of sharing their experiences than MySpace. I can't really recall what features Facebook had that MySpace did not, but that organic growth took place on college campuses and spread like wildfire. If you really want a social networking product to reach a community, you've got to convince those in the best position to utilize it that it's the best product out there. I think Google+ is just trying to supplant something that has too strong roots at this point.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) They are wild dogs, you know, before dogs were domesticated. Ran into some of those in mexico, mean little f***ers. This is pretty much exactly how dogs became domesticated in the first place...bands of wolves recognized they could survive on human waste products, and eventually were assimilated into human culture.

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:38 AM) I'm presuming it was one of these types of pull-up bar, rather than one of these? I'm assuming it was the second type, but I am not sure. A lot of folks that use the second type do so on account of P90X popularizing them. That is the type I own and never particularly wanted to use for anything other than dips.

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 04:34 AM) Gold isn't old fashioned - it's a timeless classic, man. I'm inclined to think that some of the alternatives are a bit faddish. I went with gold - simple and classic, no designs or patterns, substantial enough without being over-the-top chunky. I love it. From the brief description you gave, it sounds like your previous ring had perhaps too much going on between the different colours and patterns for it to have longevity. As with most design classics, I think clear and simple usually holds its appeal better than overly designed. So, regardless of if you go for gold or not, my advice would be to stick to one colour that you're happy with and keep it simple. Hope this is helpful. (Obviously, all of the above is purely based on my opinion, for what it's worth, based on my own personal preferences. I don't want to run down anyone elses wedding ring preferences as such an investment is a deeply personal thing.) I agree. I am actually in the market for a wedding band as well right now. The overwhelming trend in the last several years is platinum or silver or tungsten or white gold. Anything but yellow gold. I actually think yellow gold will make a comeback eventually, but the one I am looking at is rose gold. It has sort of a copper color to it. Definitely more color to it than the white gold or platinum. I'll post a picture of mine when I order it, which should be within the next few weeks.

So why is the Olympics beginning tomorrow, anyways? Doesn't it traditionally begin on a Sunday?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Target hack anyone? I mean I'm all for making fun of Russia's corruption here, but it seems like people are just sort of piling on now with little or no reflection for how their own countries operate. People in the US get hacked all of the time. Well the reporter was setup with a phony identity, so it seems strange that it could have been targeting media personnel.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) My door frame one worked awesome except for the slight damage to the molding. Never felt like it was ever coming off. My new one is tension based so I keep a foot extended in case it pops off. I'd like to build my own bar somewhere that has nothing to do with the doorframe, but haven't figured out where yet.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) What did you use for P90X? I've always used the resistance bands...and I have had those come out of the door and hit me before. I actually did purchase the pull-up apparatus for the doorframe, but either never had the right size doorframe, never felt comfortable it would hold firmly in place, or didn't want to jack up my doorframe, so I just used it for dips.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) I thought someone was going to hit you with the Mitch Hedberg joke. "I'm a heroine addict. I need to have sex with women that save peoples' lives." Now there's a guy I miss...

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 2, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Mayweather claims now he didn't bey the game. I don't believe that for a second. I don't doubt that he bet the game, but the 10.4 million thing was a scam...that much was confirmed in the middle of the week.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 2, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) Watch Mayweather pick up a random fight soon. 10.4 million loss. That wasn't true.

Well, his point is that the coverage wasn't as great as Sherman would like to think...he's trying to put the blame on himself instead of Crabtree.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) You don't make money on tax losses, that's a complete bastardiization of reality. If that was the case, company goals would be to lose money and declare losses, OR keep companies like Motorola around so they could keep doing it...which obviously isn't the case. Not to mention, those tax losses are gone as of now, since you only get to write down so much per year while you own the company, and the patents alone don't give them that right, the corporate umbrella of Motorola did. A tax loss doesn't really net you a gain, it simply offsets what you made, so less of your profits are taxable. A lot of these spinsters are glossing over quite a few things with this garbage reporting. Yes, Google inherited their cash, but they also inherited Motorola's massive debt, which exceeded their cash at the time, but let's call it a wash anyway. Then they ignore that Motorola hemmoraged billions over the years google owned them. Let's keep in mind Google had an effective tax rate of about 3% if I'm not mistaken...it's not like they needed tax write offs since they hardly paid any taxes in the first place. Google took a hit here, but they knew they could afford it, and that's all there is too it. They don't need spinsters defending what clearly ended up being a terrible purchase. Google also expected more out to those patents, as their sole patent win requested billions from Microsoft and were awarded just 1.5 million, while a mass of other cases were outright dismissed because it's a portfolio of frand patents. Google decided to cut its losses and retain as many sep's as they could in doing so, to protect the future of Android, which at this point in this debacle, was a no brainer. Unload what you can while you can, accept the loss while you have 50 billion dollars in the bank and move on with some patents that could potentially help in the future. I'm not an accountant, but couldn't they offset some of their own liabilities with Motorola's losses?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) So, like, how does it work when a country in the Southern Hemisphere hosts the Olympics? Do they host the Summer Olympics in December? Or the winter games in July? Seems rude to make them adhere to Northern Hemisphere rules. I know Sydney hosted the 2000 summer Olympics. Was it held during OUR summer months, or theirs? They are traditionally held in August.

Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) Most of us "choose" to work and are "at-will" employees. Is it wrong that we might ask for a raise, better working conditions, better benefits, more time off, etc? Does the ABA control your employment rights and rules at every law firm in the country? eta: a decent health insurance plan should cover mental illness problems and substance abuse therapy! I just think it's fair to point out that there are a lot of dangerous/unhealthy jobs out there, including those where you don't physically tackle people with helmets. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Right, and that's the part I could give two s***s about. You chose to play a sport in which you run full speed into another human and land on a hard ground. Why should anyone else be responsible for that decision? edit: and that's ignoring the benefits these guys get for that potential long-term impact. Is it that dissimilar from your profession? What is the divorce rate for lawyers? Alcoholism rate? But what is the average salary? Are you going to sue your law firm if (when) you end up as a raving alcoholic divorcee (ok, I am joking about the divorcee part)? -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) Windows are huge on that. Ours is that our house was retrofit with AC and Blown Heat (built in 1883) so the high velocity system kind of makes the heating uneven upstairs. Not to mention uneven insulation. SO f***ing frustrating. Yeah, most of the older homes in Las Vegas have virtually no insulation. Sometimes, just some sand. In my previous home, the previous owner had discovered this and ripped apart the entire home and rebuilt it from the studs and has foam insulation blown-in. When I was still in my bachelor days, and working 12 hour rotating shifts, I had to leave my back door open and turn the thermostats off and the back bedrooms would hardly have changed temps. In our current home, it is just masterfully built with the huge exception that it is not energy efficient. The glass all needs to be replaced with something with better r values. I think that would make a huge difference.
