  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 6, 2014 -> 06:39 AM) So, saw Ozzie debating with Kruk last night on ESPN. When the hell did this happen? Greg is rejoicing beyond belief. Saw him on there talking about Bryce Harper's thumb injury about a week ago...
  2. The new gilded age Thought this was interesting after seeing these posts...
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 1, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Which is a good question anyway. What's everyone's top 4 courses you've actually played? Mine: Doral Torrey Pines Medina Whistling straits The Challenge at Manele Torrey Pines TPC at the Woodlands Butler National GC
  4. Played The Challenge @ Manele today twice...only 20 people on the entire course...it was seriously golf heaven on earth...and the wife rode along in the cart to take pictures so I didn't have to worry about that. Definitely amongst the top 4 courses I've ever played.
  5. Well, I guess I am lucky then...I asked if she minded and she said not at all. She'll probably enjoy it more than me, to be honest. Imagine being stuck with me for 6 straight days...
  6. Seriously though, do you guys think that is selfish of me, to play golf? She has said she wants to lay on the beach all day anyways for the honeymoon.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) golfing on the honeymoon, off to a good start It's called "setting the tone," my friend...
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I'd do a jeep or a convertible of some kind. Car is a must to see everything the island has to offer. Where are you guys staying? No matter where you're at, you should have a blast. Maui is awesome. Oh, and congrats again! I took the plunge and got the Jeep. We're staying at the Andaz Maui at Wailea. I think it is an old Marriott that Hyatt bought and remodeled. Just booked some golf here I asked the woman about the pace of play because they offer $100 replay for your second round on the same day. She said she presently has 14 people on the books for the day I am going. Sold. Going to take the ferry over in the morning, get in two rounds. The wife can hit the beach at the Four Seasons or come along in the cart for $30.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Still time to run away I've been telling my friends they can find me in Argentina if I don't show up for the wedding...
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) Good luck bud and congrats again! Thanks!
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) For sure. I'm kicking around the idea of renting a jeep...$370 for the week.
  12. Wedding is this weekend...really looking forward to Maui... So you guys think a car is a must there?
  13. To me I've seen a guy that will mash if he gets pitches to hit and once he gets acclimated to the pitchers a bit more. Seems like he starts getting impatient after he goes through the hot streaks and doesn't get the pitches to hit that he would like. Then he starts pressing a bit, swinging at pitches outside of the zone for awhile, before he regains his patience again and starts mashing as pitchers eventually have to pitch to him again. If he can retain that patience for an extended period of time, it will all come, but he's going to have to realize that pitchers are going to be extremely careful with him.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) Disclaimer: this is an acquaintance (really!) who had this experience, but I wasn't sure how to react to it. Neither were they. Friend buys something on eBay that retails for ~$275 and gets it for about $200. Sweet deal! It arrives at the door a day later in an Amazon Prime box. They can tell from the invoice that the seller just purchased it on Amazon for around $285 and shipped it straight to friend. The PayPal payment my friend made was sent to a Chinese person (in China), who went by a different name than the eBay username suggested. My first reaction was that this product was purchased with a stolen credit card. It could be something else, like perhaps a person trying to get money out of their Amazon gift card. Of course, it seems like there would be better ways to do that via gift card marketplaces or by selling things on eBay that weren't niche products like this was. What does a person do when they suspect this going on? Stolen s*** is what makes ebay work
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) Heads aren't going to roll so what you say in this means nothing in that matter. It was and still is a low risk, high reward signing and if nothing comes of it, they spent less half the amount this year than they did on Manny Ramirez for all of September 2010. Using your powers of hindsight doesn't mean anything yet. I really liked the signing, and most of Soxtalk did too. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=90722 Jon Garland pitched last year and he was absolutely dreadful, and he'd only get worse from there. But while we're naming people from the 2005 team, they may as well see what Damaso Marte and Cliff Politte are up to. Neal Cotts is unavailable. Bobby Jenks...Shingo? We might be able to use them now too!
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) What scout(s) thought it would be a good idea to acquire Paulino? Yes I want heads to roll over that acquisition. A common fan could tell you that was a bad idea. Oh Greg...
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) To actually be serious, I think that Dunn has left a bad taste in the mouth of Sox fans and wiping themselves clean from him would be best for both parties. If they brought him back at $2-3 mill on a 1 year deal to be one half of a RHP DH platoon, I wouldn't complain, but I don't know if Dunn wants that at this point in his career. Isn't it more important what his teammates think of him? Do we think the fans would be easier on him if he was making, say, 2/$12 rather than the 4/$60 or whatever his contract currently is?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:51 AM) I stated previously that I thought Lindstrom should have started the 9th. He is the closer(now), and he should have been given the opportunity to close the game. But again, pick your poison with this BP. it doesnt matter what brand, it is still going to hurt I am really not a fan of Lindstrom at all. I dont think he is a decent reliever, i think he is very hittable and prone to coughing up leads. The faster he is out of the 9th inning discussion, the happier I will be Yeah, I know, I was more referring to some of the other posters. It's not an incredible observation to recognize that this bullpen is shaky at best right now, but that doesn't mean you throw anything at the wall and hope it sticks. Robin should be a bit more intuitive or aware of what the hell he is doing, is all I am saying.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) Not just walks, just general sucktitude and ineptness. You can focus on walks all you want, but none of these pitchers have done anything to inspire any sort of faith in any of them. One point I'll raise is that this current Red Sox team has struggled a bit to score runs. Weather conditions were poor. But they do take pitches - they are one of the best teams in baseball at working the count, being patient, taking walks. Allowing a guy like Lindstrom to come in and just throw strikes to start off the 9th was the pretty easy answer. The Red Sox had scored 3 runs against us in the previous 17 innings. They had ZERO hits since the first inning. The offense they generated in the 8th was all due to walks. So what do we do? Start out the 9th with Ricky f***ing Vaughn throwing as hard as he can with no idea where the hell it is going. THE ONLY OFFENSE THEY CAN GENERATE IS BY DRAWING WALKS. So let's give them EXACTLY what the f***ing want. If he'd had just put someone in who could throw strikes, that would have been a 3-2 victory.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 06:42 AM) I think anyone who is blaming Robin for the loss just read the boxscore. If you actually stayed up and watched the game you know it's clearly all on the bullpen performance. I stayed up and watched the game and I blame Robin for the loss. Robin manages a bullpen for s***. I'm not going to call for his head, or go on and on for hours about it, because frankly, it doesn't matter a whole lot this year, and maybe this year will be a learning experience for him as well. But he managed the bullpen for s*** in 2012, I don't think anyone bothered to watch last year, and he's showed signs of the same sort of questionable decision-making again this year.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) My boss' boss is leaving the company (Sr Directory level in charge of IT Security). The interim guy (who I'm not a fan of) is most likely getting the job as it appears he was being groomed for it. Luckily I'm in good standing with the guy, but I just don't trust him much (manages up and not down). Not sure what changes are coming, but thinking I need to keep my eyes open. Where is he going? Perhaps you might look there...
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 06:24 AM) Tell me exactly what he could have done different to make his bullpen throw strikes. He literally used everyone, none of them were close to the zone I would have liked him to have Lindstrom start the 9th.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) I remember this coming up in a conversation about something else. It is the least shocking thing ever that Chicago lies about their crime stats. You get a very large cookie.
  24. Despite his flaws, I really think you guys are selling Ale short.
