  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 6, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) What's more annoying about printers for most home users is how expensive ink is, and the fact that it dries up if you don't use it. I gave up on even owning one. If I really need a hard copy of something I just do it at work. It's just not worth the trouble for me anymore.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) If you think thats a security concern wait until you see what is coming out with several major auto manufacturers. Your smart phone will literally be broadcasting your personal information including the crypto key to unlock and start your car. Oh boy...I'm already a bit concerned about the technology they have for keyless startup now...I have the Audi Advanced Key function...it allows you to open the car and start the car as long as you have the key within a certain distance of the car, basically, on your person. Anyways, a few times when I had the car already running, and then needed to run back in the house and use my housekey to get in, and therefore took the keys with me, I am concerned that someone could actually drive away with the car even without the keys? I've actually gotten back in the car while it is running still, and the dash shows a key with a question mark, as if it doesn't recognize the key is back inside the car, and yet it still allows me to operate the vehicle and drive away...
  3. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 04:42 AM) Go Braves, Go O's. I like Lohse, but Medlen might not lose a game this year. Now that I said that the exect opposite will happen. I just bet a Braves - O's parlay. The Braves have won 23 consecutive games when Medlin has started, and the Rangers are just falling apart right now...I hate betting on Saunders, but those O's are dangerous right now.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) He's not that old. At least he doesn't lie about his age like some big leaguers do. Not putting words in your mouth, but there's something about Paulie that makes people get on him whereas other players like Rios seem to get a free pass when they stink (last year). I've never understood what makes some players likeable and some not. He definitely is held to a higher standard, and he should be. He is the team's most visible player. He hits cleanup. He makes a lot of money. He earned a lot of that money in the first two months, and then was pretty mediocre for the rest of the year. I don't want to crucify him, I just didn't want him hitting cleanup anymore.
  5. QUOTE (farmteam @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) Romney was definitely more charismatic, but I didn't really feel like he "won" so much as Obama didn't even show up. Romney didn't really say anything, he was just more confident about saying nothing of substance. I agree on that. BO was choppy and caught off guard, and honestly needs to fight back a bit more on some of the criticisms the Republicans have of him. They're arguing about the last four years in a vacuum, as if nothing that happened before Obama took office has had any effect on where we are today. Barack needs to admit some of the struggles but counter those with putting more emphasis on the reasons we are where we are and the refusal of the Republicans to allow him to try and accomplish much of anything. Romney was definitely smooth, but as you said, smooth in saying very little of substance. Even when Lehrer put him on the spot about what he would replace Obamacare with, he simply said "those with pre-existing conditions will be covered and I will restore the $716 billion back into Medicare..." Then he immediately changed the subject back to taxes or something.
  6. Ugh...these sob's just had to win 11-0 last night to piss me off even further...massive choke job.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) I'm glad the refs that came back ended that pass interference fest that was the first 3 weeks. I agree that regular refs make bad calls, but it's just nice to see the game move quickly and decisions made fast. The NFL is such an incredibly difficult game to administer...there are 22 players on the field at a time, flying all over the place, hitting one another as hard as possible, and there are countless rules and interpretations of those rules. I think it was pretty clear just how fantastic a job the professionals do week in and week out.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) It's easy to gain confidence when you aren't on your back. It's amazing isn't it, when you give your quarterback time to find his receiver he looks great. Cutler is 9-1 in his last 10 starts I believe... Edit: Sorry, that is 8-1 in his last 9 starts.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 11:14 PM) that's a terrible word I'm a big Sheldon Cooper fan...
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) "This is our sex corner" The coitus corner!

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) Does anyone really care how you answer HR questions these days? As long as you don't come out sounding like you're an arrogant psychopath, I don't think they care. I'm talking from a technical job perspective. Our interviews are almost entirely based on nonsensical questions like that.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) I'm big on having separate spaces for everything I do, so I understand the gym atmosphere sentiment. My bed is for sleeping, my desk is for working, my couch is for relaxing, etc etc Jeesh...I feel bad for your girlfriend...
  14. QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) I've heard that Memphis has more palpable racial tensions than anywhere else in the country. Never been there, but I want to visit just for the BBQ and music. Yeah, go to Corky's and then to the bars... But it is like living on the surface of the sun in the summer...and this is coming from the dude living in the middle of a desert...
  15. Oh man...at first I didn't realize the list goes in descending order....I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Omaha... This thing is ridiculous...I know LA has problems, but 50th? Whatever. Where would you rather live, LA, Cleveland, or Omaha? GMAFB. Reno, while in a beautiful setting, is a f***ing dump. Placing Houston ahed of Chicago on any list other than s***tiest weather is absof***ing retarded. I don't get how you put DC in the top 3...yes, a lot of historical and governmental things, but I don't think it would be in many people's top 3 place to live.
  16. Blaze, go to cnet.com and read their reviews. For Plasma, it is tough to beat Panasonic and Pioneer. Sharp is the king of the LED. Samsung does everything fairly well...
  17. I know it would be a bit of a surprise, but I really, really would like to see Alex swapped with PK right now... Come on Chris...just like Memorial Day.

I've heard some good stories about trading shops such as Enron back in the day. There wasn't much of a formal interview. It was more a test of brain teasers or riddles, followed by some social interaction designed to determine how well one might fit into their culture. They could have cared less how you answered questions such as "Describe a conflict you were involved in and how you solved it."
  19. It's not just that we have low OBP guys. In some cases, such as Gordon's, it's more of a "this guy doesn't hit for average" problem, not just a "this guy has no patience" problem. We have a lot of swing-for-the-fences type of guys, and I am not sure whether that is partially due to the bandbox we play in, which often times rewards this type of approach, or if it is an organizational coaching/drafting/acquisition deficiency, but it is certainly an area of concern. The biggest return on OBP is not even necessarily the immediate and obvious result of more men reaching base, but just the amount of pitches it forces another team to throw to your hitters. Teams like Oakland and New York and Boston are an absolute bear to pitch to. They frustrate pitching, defense, starters, bullpens, managers, etc.
  20. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) MUST WIN tonight....(Duh) If Sox can somehow win 3/4 against the Rays I like our chances, with Detroit on the road. Knowing this team and White Sox season-ending baseball in general, they will now sweep the Rays. But realistically, they should probably get swept the way they have been playing.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) Being the best in some peoples opinions dones't make them "the best" in everyones. And being the best also doesn't mean system components won't fail from time to time, or that software won't be buggy. Even though flaws exist, something can still be considered "the best". You have an odd way of looking at things. That's because it just happens to be the way that suits his argument in regards to Apple
  22. There are 7 games left and we are 1 game down, guys. Lot of baseball left to be played.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) Why the hell did Alexei hit 7th? After what he did last night, the last thing he deserved was to move a spot up in the lineup. Alexei's inability to get PK home in the first was a big deal. PK's inability to get himself home on AJ's double was a big deal. Guy is looking back at the ball for some reason instead of looking at Manto. I know he's dealing with an injury, but if his head isn't in the right place (and it's clearly not), he needs to sit a few days. He isn't helping us.
  24. I have no doubt in my mind that Lillibridge was having a difficult time performing well in these games because of how badly he knows our guys need these games. Did he do that on purpose, I dunno, but the look on his face said "I sure as hell did." What a frustrating few weeks of baseball. Month really. But at the end of the day it is still just a game we love to watch. It isn't life, it isn't death, it isn't cancer or a really bad car accident. It's a game. Gotta try and keep things in perspective, folks.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Injured his LEFT (non-throwing) shoulder on a weird play on the mound. Says it still hurts, looked in a fair amount of pain at the time, but is pitching through it (or planning to). Who knows if it will actually effect him. Just like there is no telling how Sale and Quintana might do in their remaining appearances, if they have indeed hit a wall of sorts. The catcher went to throw the ball back to him. There were men on base at the time. When Gerald Laird went to throw the ball, his hand collided with the umpire's hand and caused him to throw a ground ball back to Verlander. Verlander wasn't paying close attention and so didn't realize Laird's hand had hit the umpire's hand and that the umpire had immediately called time out. Seeking to avoid a bad throw allowing runners to advance, Verlander sort of awkwardly dove at the ball and landed on the wrist of his glove hand, which caused him to strain his left, non-throwing shoulder. Definitely a bizarre occurrence. He continued pitching, but yeah, it did appear as though it might have hurt a bit.
