  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) And a complete collapse of Tyler Flowers. I recognize the value of Flowers, especially considering his limited service time, but catcher is the one position where there are other considerations at work when you're talking about replacing a veteran player with a cheaper, younger player. Because of the catcher's larger role in the makeup of the team, the choice is not as easy as who makes less money?
  2. I admire Washington for sticking with the guys that got him here, but I just wonder if Ogando was the best guy to bring in to this situation. Terrible play by Holliday getting picked off there. Unacceptable.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) That would likely require a winning Sox team this year and a very productive AJ as well. I'd be content with that. He's not likely to come back for anything other than a minimum deal if the Sox finish in 3rd place. Most likely, but I could foresee a situation where Flowers gets moved or is simply not productive, and the Sox resign AJ for 2/$8m or something simply because they have no other viable options.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) There is no chance that AJ gets a two year extension from the Sox a year ahead of his contract being up. None. Perhaps not an extension, but it's certainly possible he gets brought back in a similar fashion to this last go-around.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 06:52 PM) I can never say anyone but Washington. Agreed. Washington was viewed practically as a god amongst his peers at the time.
  6. I find the comparison of AJ to Michael Young pretty ridiculous....could you pick a more different situation than the two?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Also, I'd be so very jealous about Oregon. Its one of my 8 remaining states I haven't visited, but something tells me it would be perfect. I'm jealous too...was there in Sept...awesome, awesome state... Balta, I drove through both Corvallis and Eugene, and both were absolutely beautiful. You'd love it there. Keep us posted.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) Job interview the first, scheduled!!! Good luck!
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 12:47 AM) Does he know you insult him on the internet? That would be awesome. Wearing a seersucker suit on any occasion is awesome.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) And the above is a joke, in case anyone feels like flying off the handle. You'd better hope LittleHurt05 doesn't turn up missing tomorrow...
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) Holy s***, dude, Google it. Ahh, I haven't watched SNL in forever.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Im getting nice and drunk, one of the best college holidays. My apartment is dressing up like the creeps from "The Creep" by The Lonely Island. ?
  13. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) well, I'm sure as hell not goin' as Stern. :/ on 2nd thought... nah. too many other girls dress up as the devil. nevermind. Hah, funny. Stern is actually probably the best commissioner of all the major sports leagues.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) My teacher's aide is a dead ringer for Joakim Noah. He'll wear the Noah jersey and really ham it up with knee socks and lame basketball shorts-- and I've got a cute referee outfit to wear at school for the day. He should wear Noah's draft day outfit instead...
  15. I had just moved to Lincoln Park while at Depaul law school...I remember walking up and down Halsted in my jersey and it was a freaking ghost town. What a great few weeks those playoffs were.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) I have that Trib framed on my wall. I meant to...instead it's sitting in the trunk of my car...
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) Haha, I completely forgot that that was someone's handle. It's hard to imagine a black guy named Thad, too. He used to be a Soxkiller!
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) Is Thad the gayest name ever? I propose that it is. I'm not a fan of Guy or Gabe. No offense to Guy's or Gabe's out there.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 04:59 AM) I'm pretty much in the middle on this one. Danks really has no value to the White Sox right now, he's not that good of a prospect, but he's shown a bit of power in the past and plays good defense. If a coach within your system can get through to him and he hits a little bit, you have a 2-3 WAR player on your hands in his good seasons. If I'm Houston or Minnesota - especially Minnesota who pretty much have jack squat in the minors for OFers right now - I'll take a chance on Danks in a second. I guess my question to you is who are the players the White Sox should be protecting rather than Danks?
  20. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) Damn, Breaking away didn't even cross my mind. Should have definitely made my list. That's a great movie...although I am sure if I went back and watched it now, it wouldn't seem quite as good...
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) Margin Call isn't too bad either. If you want to join the conspiracy theorists, try to watch Collapse. If I lived in the U.S. and didn't vote for the Republican administrations that were primarily responsible for running up the score on our national debt from less than $1 trillion when Reagan took office to more than $14.7 trillion today, I would be really angry about that. And if I watched as the Republican Party tried to make it seem like it was the fault of "both parties" while they turned the routine business of raising the debt ceiling into a cynical political gambit, I would be incensed. And if I watched the Republican Party then try to use the debt ceiling fiasco they created in order to lay the whole thing at the feet of a President who inherited an epic fiscal and economic mess from Bush, I would be livid. yahoo message boards I've seen Collapse as well. Very scary.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) You can struggle in the minors, but if you want teams to buy in, you have to show some tools. Hit for average. Hit for power. You can't strike out once per three ABs without showing 40 homer potential. Defense is not enough to make up for that. You are missing the point. Go look at Johan Santana's minor league numbers when the Twins selected him in the Rule 5. I'm sure there were people who believed he would never amount to anything either. Edit: Actually, the Marlins drafted Santana and then traded him to the Twins in a prearranged deal.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Inherent value? Seriously? The guy strikes out at an Adam Dunn rate with no power. Where is the value in that? The guy has 33 homers... in 1500 plus ABs. There is no market for Jordan Danks. He is Brent Gretzky. I dunno, maybe he turns into an Austin Jackson type player? Again, you're acting as if no player has struggled in the minors and then had some sort of mental lightbulb go on that caused him to succeed in the major leagues. Certainly the odds are that it won't happen, but it does happen. Which is why these guys are left unprotected and why some teams take chances on them in the Rule 5.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) In all seriousness... How many guys are Rule 5 claims based on CF defense? has that ever actually happened? Actually, this is exactly the kind of guys that are rule 5 claims. If they already had a ton of inherent value, they would be protected. These picks are usually teams seeing something in a player and hoping to extract value from him by trying something that his current team has not.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) No downside risk? Like his completely sucking offensively? I think I hit that one. His sucking offensively is going to cost you what? The difference between winning 69 games versus winning 71 games? And if you actually do compete, like say the Padres did in 2010, you just give him back to the White Sox and lose out on $50k? The worst thing you lose is a roster spot, which could have been taken up by someone else that's currently in your system. But odds are you don't have a ton of replacements if you played a guy that hit for a .600 OPS last year and you didn't bring up anyone too promising in September to replace him.
