QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Mantle admitted to being drunk during games. How eras change. He used "unhancers" and today they use enhancers. The Mick was also an alcoholic. Look, I don't care if they are s***faced during games if it makes them loosen-up a bit a play better...and I understand the desire to bail the guys out in Boston before they start firing back and exposing the whole League as a bunch of drunken, dope-laden addicts, but honestly, right now, AJ? Couldn't you just be like Dempster and give some vague "yes, it happens still, not as much as in the past, but it definitely still goes on" kind of answer?

Thanks guys...that worked. There must be a higher priority set for the factory restores to get through to the servers or something. Seems odd.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah, we don't know how long this is going to be. But, moving from all our friends and family to another city is going to be socially rough, so we'd much rather live in san fran then a cheaper alternative, unfortunately. I'll stay back for a month or two to find a job before moving. It'll help to now be focused. In what we thought would happen, i'm currently interviewing with a job in nyc. But they are based in Sf so I'm hoping they'll like me enough to find something for me. I hear there are a few areas in and around Oakland that are pretty "up and coming." I know everyone uses that phrase when they move into a dumpier part of town, but it might be an option if you find San Fran to be a bit too much to swallow financially at first.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) I"m not an engineer. I have experience in operations, editing, customer interaction, liaising with development/marketing/sales, and some copywriting. I feel comfortable selling myself in a digital marketing role as well. That's awesome! Just be prepared for the outrageous housing costs! You're a smart kid...just move your ass out there with her and hit the pavement and you'll find something soon enough.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) I did too, i just did a complete iPhone restore since i'm WFH. That worked. So you restored it back to the factory settings?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) I always say something along the lines of "I decided I have reached the limit of how I could grow professionally where I am" That's a pretty good answer...I usually say something along those lines...but I change professionally to sexually...

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) If you think the headlines of Ozzie acting like an idiot were good for the organization and/or the fan base, then you are so wrong. Maybe it's cause you don't live in Chicago and it's hard for you to understand how the locals feel, but Ozzie's "act" grew old to everyone in the city a few years ago. It all comes down to this...if you win, the fans enjoy the "personality and colorful commentary of Ozzie." If you lose, fans get tired of the nonsensical bulls*** after a while. This is a theme that repeats itself over and over again throughout history.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Eh? The Sox status as underdogs for fan appeal vs the Cubs has not reversed. Even after the WS win, the Sox made gains, but the Cubs still are on top in following, TV, attendance, national recognition, etc. So they haven't gone back to being underdogs in that sense, at all. Furthermore, while they may become underdogs against what actually matters - the teams in their division and league - that is what KW and Ventura will be focused on. They are not cubsessed. I think he was speaking more from an expectations standpoint...despite still playing the second fiddle in town in terms of popularity, there have definitely been higher expectations of the Sox over the course of the last 5-6 years as opposed to the Cub, at least by more than the most casual of fans.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Does anyone live in San Francisco on this board? (Bay area, i should say) I don't live there...but I went out there last October...what an awesome city....expensive, but so much culture and diversity and progressive thinking...it would absolutely be one of my top 5 cities to move to if the money was right.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Former Weezer bass player Mikey Welsh, who also found success in his second career as an artist, died in a Chicago hotel room. He was in Chicago to see Weezer perform and hang out with the guys. Sad. He freaking tweeted two weeks ago that he had a dream he would die in Chicago. Then two weeks later, he dies in Chicago, in his sleep. Gotta be suicide. Washington Post

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) I doubt there's any correlation between great hitting coaches and how successful they were as players. At this point, it becomes how well you can analyze a hitter's individual strengths and weaknesses, and give him individual mechanics necessary to put him in the best possible position to succeed. There aren't a whole lot more significant things to be discovered in terms of hitting mechanics, but rather, little trends that help out which are adjustments to what pitchers are currently doing. It's an issue of how well you analyze and teach and work individually with each hitter to bring out the best possible manifestation of their talent. It may actually be worse for someone who was an outstanding hitter to be a coach, because sometimes when you are supremely talented you simply don't have to do a whole lot other than get out of your own way in order to succeed. When such a person becomes a coach of others, it is often difficult for them to understand why this isn't the case for them as well.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Sadly, it only happened because Aaron Hernandez f***ed up. The pass was spot-on. Yeah, but did you guys see the camera angle from behind the play? Thing was a thrown hard from very close range and was wobbling...not the easiest of catches... -
What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks

QUOTE (wallyburger @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) I would rather see Peavy gone than Danks. Younger arm with stuff. Wonder if there are any thoughts for Matt Thornton being converted to starting? With Beurhle and Peavy gone (possibility) there would be room for 2 starters. Sale and ?????? No one will take Peavy unless we pay almost the entirety of his contract. Not happening. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) So a receiver has to have possession of the ball when he hits the ground out of bounds for it to be a catch but the ball still only has to break the plane (and can be dropped immediately) to be a touchdown. Huh? They have that process rule. You have to go through the entire process of the catch, that includes maintaining possession of the ball if you do go down. It fully applies in the end zone, as evidenced by the touchdown taken away from Megatron in the end zone against the Bears. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) He was 82. Those things just happen at that age. As I said on Facebook, all of the eulogizing (not that it's happening here) of Al Davis seems almost hypocritical. It was the same thing with George Steinbrenner? Two pieces of crap who wielded absolute power and forced everyone to bend to their will. A jagoff who dies isn't suddenly a good person, just a dead jagoff. I get the feeling that many people around the League are relieved from his passing. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) I don't use streaming, so I should be fine. What is the turnaround for Blockbuster, though? If I put a Netflix DVD in the mail Monday night, I'd get my next one on Thursday. well, I'm not in Illinois, but in Vegas, it's fast. I mail it Monday, they get it Tuesday and send another out, usually it is here Wednesday. So 2 to 3 days.

Just watched True Grit (the Cohen's adaptation). Outstanding. I hate when they pull that s*** with the horse.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) Perhaps we have different definitions of minute. The scratches won't look like they were made by a knife, but there will be tons of them. I've played plenty of DVDs with minor-looking scratches like that (borrowed ones, not sure how people let that happen) that worked without a problem. I have only had one Blu-Ray from Blockbuster fail to play for me in 3 years. I really like Blockbuster, although I don't think they are as far ahead with the streaming as Netflix is.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) LOL Hey Laurence Holmes... KW won't come on the show because you aren't relevant enough. Quit trying to be Bernstein lite and maybe you'll get some respect. He comes off as a total schlep to me...

He's already making progress, from what it seems. And he has a great sense of humor!

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) I do agree he's coming off terrible so far, but thankfully he has time to get these things figured out by next February. I am just enjoying being able to understand what our manager is saying.
