  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) No, some people need to be replaced. Teams often start and end the year with a different player at ____ position due to the inadequacy of the original guy. It's being proactive rather than just hoping for the best. I know, I know. It's much easier to just go down with the ship and accuse anyone of panicking who thinks certain changes are required. Absolutely not. But what is the point of no return then? At what point is it best to be proactive or reactive, rather than patient and trust the data? When you get frustrated and slam your hand against the table? When you've had 6 beers for the night and just can't take another Adam Dunn strikeout?
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) Oh, an argument nobody ever made. Got it. Obviously the Sox were not going to play at a .300 clip for the entirety of the season. Many of us are just concerned that they will not be able to overcome the wretched start they had (like they did last year) as they always seem to falter again in August and September (like they do almost every year). That is the concern, and it is a very reasonable one. The fact that our manager doesn't seem to want to make any necessary changes to improve the chances of sustained success only exacerbates the situation. Did you ever think that maybe the key is not to make many changes? That trusting the years and years of data and the history these guys have built as players is what gives them the best chance for sustained success, rather than overreacting to poor results in the short term and panicking?
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 22, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) That's the starting point in negotiations. I'm sure they only wanted to give Konerko $6-8 mill too, but caved and went to $12 per. They'll probably go to $10 with Buehrle. I think 4/$32 would be fair.
  4. I've not seen anyone fluster Rose as much as the Heat have.
  5. QUOTE (Felix @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) The officials haven't decided any of them. The play on the court has, and the Heat simply outplayed the Bulls tonight. The officials make it very difficult to win on the road in the postseason, but the Bulls had this advantage while they were in Chicago, so there is no place for whining now.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) Goddamnit Derrick stay on the ground! Yeah, that was ridiculous. He wasn't even a threat there.
  7. I don't understand this at all...if you're going to put Korver in the game, give him the damn ball when he's open.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Let me ask you a question. Do you really believe if we fall 14 back in the loss column after this road trip we are going to win the division? I am hopeful of a good road trip ... but that could easily happen and the Sox would be finished. I mean get real ... with Sox 11 back in loss column, yes I'd call it life support depending on what happens on this trip with us and Cleveland. I mean what is there to disagree about?? You don't come back from 14 back in the loss column just because you want to. Greg, how can you or anyone possibly know where the Indians are going to finish at this point? Would anyone be surprised if they went 8 and 18 in June? If they were chasing a Minnesota team or even a Tiger team with that record, I would be at least mildly concerned with such a large lead at this point, but they're not.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Great baseball but Sox still 11 back in loss column entering a killer road trip. Team is on life support IMO even though most of you disagree. No margin of error. Sox must keep winning every series. You are just being ridiculous. There are 115 games left and we are chasing an unproven, surprise team. Life support? You can be as dramatic as you'd like, but that doesn't mean any of it is true.
  10. Great to see us getting into a little rhythm here. I am developing an intense hatred for the Heat players...I don't know that I have felt this way about a team since our rivalry with the Pistons 20 years ago.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) He started doing it there at the end...because even if they try to block him they're going to foul him. Yeah, that was good to see...but his shots around the rim for the most part have not been particularly close...it's as if he's just trying to throw up a shot that doesn't get blocked instead of a shot that has a chance at going in. We knew these games were going to be frustrating. I, for one, am pretty happy being down 3 here. Just keep hanging around, hanging around...
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) I just keep getting the feeling that Derrick is going to say "**** it, this game is mine" somewhere here. He needs to believe he can finish at the rim then, instead of just trying not to get his s*** blocked.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) Someone on the Bulls offense needs to be moving without the ball. Korver actually had an open look from 3 over Wade and passed on it there...I think he was as surprised as anyone.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) How do you jump on top of the guy with the ball without being called for a foul? They've always allowed you to maul a guy on the floor with the ball or when the ball is loose.
  15. Just nice to see some shots falling though. I can enjoy some good defense as much as the next guy, but these guys are professionals on offense as well. I don't need to feel like I'm watching a Horizon League game.
  16. QUOTE (G&T @ May 22, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Heat are getting a lot of calls. We got a lot of calls in Chicago. Welcome to playoff basketball.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ May 22, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) 26% shooting for the quarter. Great job. Yeah, but down 3, not too bad. We knew we weren't going to get any calls in Miami, but we just have to stick around and keep playing solid defense and then get hot at the right time.
  18. QUOTE (Real @ May 22, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) when they can beat the twins, and not s*** the bed in september, come let me know meanwhile i'm gonna curb my enthusiasm, you can feel free to be giddy though I'm not trying to start s***, I am asking a genuine question... Why the hell do you come into a thread like this to tell fans that are excited that they shouldn't be? Then tell me to come find YOU when they satisfy some criteria that you deem to be impressive enough. Honestly, what is the thought process here?
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Would you care to point out where I mocked anyone? Look at the poll results, that is called objective evidence. The majority of posters here have outperformed both of these guys at their jobs. And it has been easily proven, both of those guys have done some really stupid things. So how did a major franchise wind up with these two? And here is a hint . . . The answer is JR. And the point is, maybe the team's problems should be more on his shoulders. Oh come on, Tex...we are going to take the word of posters on soxtalk for evidence that they have outperformed Ozzie and Kenny at their jobs? That is ridiculously absurd and a completely ignorant conclusion.
  20. What? You mean to tell me that because the Sox were horrible through the beginning of May that you can't just extrapolate that level of play through the remainder of the season? This team is actually capable of playing good ball and winning over an extended period of time?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 22, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) My buddy talks to a girl the whole night at a bar, gets her to come over his place, steps out for a few minutes to get a case of beer and some cigarettes, and his roommate f***s the girl. Ouch. What a skank...he should be happy his roommate exposed this fact to him immediately.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) It all depends on when my wife gives birth. She's due June 2nd. Perhaps you guys could just have the meetup in the hospital! I'm sure she would totally understand.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 21, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Got the NBA's best scorer on his team but he likes to chuck up a brick every 30 seconds because apparently someone has threatened to murder his entire family if he doesn't. Not only that, but Harden has been great as well, and he doesn't want to give either of them the ball.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Wasn't Lillibridge a Sox talk whipping boy coming out of spring training? Not trying to start a fight. It just dawned on me the guy we love now I think was pretty much universally despised. This pretty much happens all the time here.
