QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) All the haters have now been told for a long time that we are overreacting, that the players like playing for him (which i dont believe) or that because he's like a son to Jerry that he is not going anywhere, but I would like to hear some legitimate arguments as to why he deserves to keep his job. The negatives are obvious, what are the affirmative arguments? He's not the one up there hitting poorly, or pitching poorly, or dropping the ball in the outfield, or walking runners in, or unable to smother breaking balls in the dirt, or failing to get runners in from 3rd with less than two outs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) The psyche on this team is awful. Konerko and his should shrugs and bat tosses seems defeated already. I'd take this Orioles lineup over the Sox, no question. I like PK and all, but he and Buehrle have been the defacto team captains since about 2003. It gets to the point where they seem to be the common denominators for the prevailing attitude on the team and these prolonged funks we go through...I don't like to do it, but I start to reach the only conclusion one really could...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) The Patriots traded the 193rd pick to the Eagles for the 194th pick. That's it. That's the deal. I heard they have made a trade every year since 2002 or something... -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) When I was a little kid my dad would take me to BP before the game and once a homer was coming right our way and I reached up for it with my glove but I was a bit too short so the guy behind me ended up catching it with his hat (which is pretty cool in itself). But the guy was holding a beer and it spilled all over me so the guy felt really bad and gave me the baseball. There were plenty of jokes in that BP session about me being drunk and covered in beer, good times. And thus started an adolescence of alcoholism in foreign lands...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) Some of you guys are starting to sound like Cub fans with your blind optimism. I have seen nothing that leads me to believe this team will be a contender this year. It just seems silly to me to even be concerned about contending. At this moment, we don't even resemble a professional baseball team anymore. Worrying about this team contending is like being concerned about being a Rhodes Scholar when you're still in kindergarten.

I could give a s*** about how many games back we are in the loss column. The much larger concern is that we are playing like absolute horses***, with no end in sight. I haven't the slightest clue why or how we seem to go through prolonged streaks like this every season... I can't even watch them lately...thank goodness for the NBA Playoffs.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) Jerry Angelo f***ed up (as usual and expected) but Baltimore can cry me a f***ing river with that mock indignation of theirs. First of all the trade was never official, and it didn't happen, so where do they get off expecting to get something and the Bears got nothing? That's what a "trade" is, the Bears didn't pick 26th, they picked 29th. It was a trade that fell through, which happens who knows how many times every draft. Baltimore could've turned in their card when they saw time running out, but they didn't. They should know, they did the exact same thing to Minnesota one year. What did Minnesota get for that? Nothing. edit: yeah, so this was already said, maybe I should read the whole thread next time hmm? I wonder what would have happened had the Chiefs taken Carimi. Imagine the story we would have been fed... -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) Can some of you guys who watch the NBA a heckuva lot more than me give me a realistic assessment of what to expect in our next series? I'm not the foremost expert, but from what I understand the Bulls matchup extremely well with Atlanta and have blown them out a few times this year. Even though we matchup better with Orlando since their big trade for Arenas and co., we get the team we wanted here in Atlanta.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 07:25 AM) The Bears front office continues to impress. They had agreed to send BAL a 4th round pick to move up 3 spots and even told Carimi they would pick him there. But no one on the Bears side told the NFL in time, so the trade never became official and that's why BAL "passed" on their pick. The Bears lucked out that Carimi was still there, but now the Ravens are pissed and still want some compensation for the trade they agreed on that never happened. It appears Baltimore still got the player they wanted, but leave it to the Bears to be unaware of draft rules. I'm surprised they showed up at the right building. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) We matched up very poorly against the Pacers. They had George and another F doubling Rose. Only Granger is a factor on offense so they could go max intensity on Rose. Hibbert caused problems underneath, too. The Heat don't have anything like that. They're not going to put Wade and James on Rose, they'd get tired too quickly, and they don't have the bench to make up for it so it'd cost them offense. Boston doesn't really have the answer either, although we are more evenly matched against them, and they don't have Perkins anymore. Atlanta is a total mismatch, I wouldn't be surprised if that ended in a sweep. Orlando is not particularly scary either. Stop them from killing you with threes, which the Bulls can do without that much difficulty, and it doesn't matter if Howard scores 45, they don't have anything else. The next round is going to be awesome. Celtics-Heat and hopefully a somewhat easy series for the Bulls. I want the Heat badly in the Eastern Conference finals...

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 12:47 AM) Any team can get any player. It's just dependent upon what one team is willing to give up. In the immortal words of the Million Dollar Man, everybody's got a price. Yeah, I suppose you're right...but I think the price would have been much, much higher for us and the Tigers and Twins than the rest of the league.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) It was awesome. I had written on Facebook something to the effect "Anytime Rose wants to toss his shots all the way to the rim would be great, preferably now" and 2 minutes later he hits a 3, then another. I think he heard me call him out, and evidently he agreed. It was about time for Rose to do that. Two poor games prior to tonight and this was needed. I know all the experts are jumping back on the Celtics and Heat's bandwagon, but I feel like we match up very well with both of them. I'm not scurred.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 12:34 AM) I am uncharacteristically sour after that one. The game wax clearly influenced by pre game comments on officiating, and we had a goal blown off for absolutely no good reason. I do leave feeling better about the end of our season, but its unfortunate that inaccurate pre game comments led to the poor officiating we saw this evening. Go Hawks. I think most of that was due to it being a game 7 more so than the pregame comments...but I feel your pain...tomorrow is another day, Stevo...tonight, is bitter.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Then why it is written in the manager's book, 'play to tie at home and win on the road.' teams bunt in that situation. Hah, Greg, you crack me up. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) He could have put Omar in at 3B and moved Teahen to RF very easily. He's been replacing Quentin with Lilli on the basepaths late in games for most of the year now. It's the only reason Lillibridge has a roster spot. I'm sure part of the reason he uses him for Quentin is because he also serves as a better defensive replacement. Ozzie deserves credit because he is willing to put Lillibridge out there in close games even when Quentin might have gotten another PA. This time it paid off. Another time it won't. I'm just happy we won. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) The Sox are the one team that targets guys to buy low... I figured someone would make a run at Sizemore as well, but I knew they would never trade him to us unless we basically gave them a package they knew no one else could touch...and I'm not even sure they would have dealt him to us then.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) This was the last point of the game in which the score margin mattered Yeah, at that point in the game I thought we might lose the game. Then Rose scored 6 or 7 straight, we went on a 9-0 run, and that was all she wrote.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) There's no way in the world Oz could have left Matt in to face A Rod. Matt looks like just another body this year, not at all like the Matt of old. He'll be fine. He's gone through these stretches before. Now that the bullpen has stabilized a bit, I suspect he'll have a chance to get a few low-leverage opportunities and get some of his confidence back.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 12:09 AM) Their reaction, fans, coaches, and players. You think they were about to hoist silverware. They won in OT in a game 7 of a playoff series. How the hell does anyone expect them to react? Especially after beating their nemesis the last few years. Great effort by the Hawks...I feel badly for you guys who are big fans of the team. Hopefully the Bulls and Sox will provide some distraction over the course of the rest of the playoffs.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 07:23 AM) Right, but all you can go off of is right now, and right now no other team would take that contract, and at the deadline still probably wouldn't take that contract. As I stated he's worth more to the Sox than anyone else, and the Sox aren't going to be looking to move him anyway. That's just not true. Right now is perhaps the worst time you can try and use for a player's trade value, since we're less than a month into the season. What you can go off of is previous deadlines, where there are usually a few desperate teams trying to stay in contention. Did you think anyone would take on Vernon Wells' contract this offseason? -
