QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Gleyber needs TJS....yikes Yeah, that is a shame. Somehow, Chase Headley may survive once again.

Oh man. That sucks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Coke, heroin, and X. Don't forget oxy!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) My guess would be mid to late July for him. Mid to late June is normal for guys with no MLB roster time previously, + the days he spent in Boston last September. Ahh, ok...I thought it was right around now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) My guess would be another OF. When is the Super 2 date?

Anyone think we may see Yoan?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) They want to come in below the luxury tax threshold next year, so buying quality starting pitching at market rates is going to be a challenge for them. Meanwhile, Quintana only comes with like a $5.2M charge next year for luxury tax purposes. There are a lot of reasons why they'd be willing to trade in their prospect currency for a starter like Q, who fits both short-term & long-term needs. Apparently, according to Sherman's article, they are expecting to even be facing a 40-man crunch soon...so there is more reason for them to "cash-in," as you say.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-bas...prise-quintana/ "Could the Dodgers be a surprise entry in the Jose Quintana sweepstakes? They certainly have the prospects to get a deal done, and there’s a belief ChiSox people are eyeing them. While the Astros, Pirates and Yankees have been suggested to be the most likely landing spots, the White Sox were frustrated by Houston’s offers and the Pirates don’t look like a contender to this point. Quintana’s salary would fit the Dodgers’ aim to keep a semi-reasonable payroll. Though they already have more potential major-league starters than anyone (and five left-handers if Scott Kazmir returns to join Clayton Kershaw, Alex Wood, Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu) but they seem to strictly adhere to the bromide: you can never have too much pitching."

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) This is going to be one of those things where I had no idea who Florial was 2 days ago and now I'm going to be demanding he included in any deal! This is basically like every deal for me, with the exception that it's 20 minutes, not 2 days...

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) And Brooks said f*** the wind. Don't think Erin Hills is getting another US Open anytime soon If the conditions would have been that way all week, it would have been much more exciting. That being said, Brooks is a good guy. I've bet on him a few times to win majors, just not this one unfortunately. Still waiting on Ricky to put it all together... Excited for the Open Championship now!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 08:46 AM) The funny thing is, the Sox were on a roll that year about halfway through, then the wheels fell off. I think they were 59-26 or something at the ASB...THREE f***ing teams in the division won 90 games.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) More walks then strikeouts And his strikeouts are probably from him becoming so impatient that these dudes can't throw strikes.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 07:02 AM) Either Frazier/Adams/Mateo/Florial or Frazier/Adams/Andujar/Florial would be very interesting packages. The Yankees have the pieces to make a trade work, but so far have not yet shown the willingness to move prospects. That might change soon. Best case for us would be a bidding war between contenders for Quintana. Best case for us is for Quintana to start pitching like Quintana again. BTW, just a side thought, but I'm pretty convinced the ball is freaking juiced this year.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Or play SS He made a few fantastic plays today...

I do believe we have some wind!

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Yeah, I absolutely believe in him as a useful MLB player, but definitely not as a type of guy who is good enough that you avoid opportunities to acquire better players as an upgrade. He would be a strong utility-man who could very adequately rest three key positions in the infield, and that's nothing to shake a stick at, especially at arb/pre-arb prices. But for a guy like Albies? You address the Sanchez part of the argument here, but not really the Albies part.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) I agree, if Moncada is not that great defensively I'd much rather have Sanchez, or Hansen there. I think that the club would be much better if you're strong up the middle. Yeah, I wish they would start giving him some innings there, tbh -
I wish Timmy could hit.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Good god, move Anderson closer to the plate. Puts weak swings on anything on the outer half Yeah, I thought given the location of that pitch, he should have given that thing a ride.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) I think people are dreaming when they envision these pitchers who have no value on the trade market having value. Shields, Pelphrey Holland, Miguel (even before he got hurt) have no value, folks. They are the kind of guys you DFA at some point when they pull a Humber. I thought there was a chance Holland might have some value, given his handedness, but those two bad starts in a row may have ended that chance.

Timmy sporting some glasses?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Rooting for a loss but 1 run vs 3 runs looks a lot better for Shields value I don't suspect it's going to matter much...his numbers are better, but I don't know that he's going to fool any opposing GMs that badly.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Major fail there by RR and Cooper Ahh, who really cares...this season is great...I am happy whether we win or lose

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) The potential has always been there. 30/30 was talked about from day one. Some guys realize their potential later than others. It is an interesting connection that the other guy being talked about by the Cardinals is JD Martinez, who followed that exact path. If I am Hahn, I am looking for at least a top 50 player to start the deal, but I am looking for 2-3 top 100 players, and/or some raw potential that isn't quite there yet. You don't get a Top 10-20 guy for him, but someone in that next tier is a reasonable start. Yeah, I am certainly open to that discussion. Just don't expect it to happen, irregardless of what he does over the next 6 weeks.
