QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Yeah, at first I couldnt do many doing it like that, but then I realized my legs werent wide enough apart like they do it in the video. It was easier to do after that. The dive bomber pushup are still pretty damn tough still. I have been slacking a lot on the ab ripper x lately though, I gotta start doing those again. How are those adjustable free weights working out for you Shack? I was thinking of getting some of those because I am kind of limited in the amount of different weights I can use during a workout. I only have 35's, and two adjustable dumbells that take forever to change because I have to unscrew both sides, change he weights, and screw them back on. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but its impossible to do that and keep up with the pace of the workouts. Yeah, the dive bombers are killing me as well. The dumbbells I have are great. I have a set of Powerblocks. They are easy to switch out and they are comfortable to use with the exercises. I still contend that the bands are better for certain exercises, but the weights are really nice to have. I picked mine up used on Craigslist for $175. Keep your eye out for a set.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) Absolutely, a team would pay dearly for Thornton. He could be a difference maker in the postseason. It doesn't matter that he's not a closer. Again...Yankees have Marte and Logan floating around there. You don't think they'd pay for Thornton to be a 7th/8th inning guy for Rivera? It's not a question of will they pay, but how much? I don't know, given the way the economics of the game have changed, that some team is going to want to give up their #1 or 2 prospect for a bullpen arm, no matter how good Matt is.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) So the key is to trade guys who do perform on the major league level for guys who never have, but might later on? The logic sounds like Jerry Krause when he traded Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler. He said he Chandler had the potential to be a 20-10 guy. That was what Brand was. Lets trade Matt Thornton for a couple of pitching prospects and hope some day one of them turns out to be as good as Thornton. Thornton is nails and is cheap. If someone really wants to overpay and give the Sox a guy who will be an All Star 3B for the next 10 years or something like that, fine trade him. But if its for Jordan Danks-like prospects, its silly. Well read what I posted, DA. I said I would deal him for a "can't miss" type of prospect. Trust me, I fall on your side of the fence in terms of rebuilding. I like our core and I don't think anything is guaranteed to us by cashing in the pieces we do have for unknowns. But at some point you find yourself in a position where you aren't high on assets (players) or resources (cash) to go out and reload, and so you've got to trade something of value to get some back. What you'd be trying to do is fill a larger need (an everyday young player) by outright winning the trade because of the situation the team trading for Thornton is in. If you can't do that with a high level of confidence, then yes, I agree with you, you just hold on to Matt.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) There have been plenty of bargains available the past 2 offseasons the White Sox have passed on. Jenks will be gone one way or another as will Konerko. I know payroll will be slashed, but they will still have some available. Just those 2 is $20 million off the books. I'm not expecting the White Sox to sign a premier free agent. They aren't going to win a bidding war over a player. Dumping Thornton who is also a financial bargain, also means creating another gaping hole on the White Sox roster. The problem is no team is going to give their top prospect for a set up guy, and if you're going to their 7th or 8th prospect or some obscure A ball player, who cares. Keep the guy. The White Sox are definitely going to try to win in 2011. There isn't going to be some 3 or 4 year rebuilding plan some masochists dream of. I don't see how anyone could even get the impression the White Sox regime could rebuild a contending team by developing players. Well, that $20 million is already committed to paying Rios and Peavy's salaries, as far as I can tell. I agree again with most of what you're saying, but the bargains you're talking about are no sure thing to perform either. I really don't see us being able to build a roster that way that would have any better chance of winning than the one we have this year.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) I would have to be overwhelmed to trade Matt Thornton, but every team would love to have him in their pen in October. It would be very tempting to take on a good prospect. Yeah, I'm thinking I would deal him and another piece for a can't miss type of prospect at a position of need. I'm not sure that such a move is in the cards, but you never know...some GMs get a little crazy towards the end of July...
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) The Reds have the best reliever in baseball so far this season in Arthur Rhodes, who is also a lefty. If anything, Jenks or Putz is a better fit for them. Fair enough, although Rhodes is 41 and Herrera is 5'6. They are the only two southpaws on their staff. I suppose things could change. Or stay the same.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) I don't know why you would trade Thornton. The White Sox are not going into a total rebuilding mode. They have Peavy and Buehrle for better or worse. They aren't going to get rid of Danks. They most likely won't trade Floyd. Garcia can be replaced by Hudson, so they are going to pretty much have the same rotation for the near future. With the condition of the AL Central, it doesn't take too much to think you have a chance. Beckham will snap out if it sometime. Quentin still has ability. Rios has ability. Maybe if the guys in AAA actually showed they may be ready for MLB it would be one thing, but remember last year when everyone wanted Beckham shipped back about a week after he was called up? He was light years more advanced than the current crop. I don't see what fun it would be to watch Flowers and Jordan Danks walk back to the dugout after collecting another golden sombrero. Keep Thornton. The bullpen needs him. This year is probably gone, but improve your roster, not with has beens like Vizquel and Kotsay and Jones and never beens like Nix and Teahen. Get some legit players, then you can move other guys like Ramirez and get someone who actually is smart on the baseball field and it really won't hurt you. I tend to agree with you except for the fact that we've got to give up something of value in order to "get some legit players," as you say. We aren't going to be able to go out and sign many premier free agents, and so you're going to have to acquire some solid young talent somehow. The only way you can do that is by maximizing the value of some of your better-performing veterans by trading them this July. If I were Kenny I would try and find a match with a team that needs Thornton and also has a bit of a logjam at a position of need for us. The Rays, Reds, Jays, Phillies, Dodgers come to mind as possible matches...
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:29 AM) Exactly, but Buff has like 30 pounds on him. He can't let that happen. Easier said than done I guess. No, you're right...apparently we need to try harder to accomplish a lot of the things that are keys for us.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) Hossa needs to be on the top line I think. He creates a lot more scoring chances but no one on that line can finish the play. Of course, Buff has to get in front of the damn net and park himself. He is basically everywhere but the net. Hasn't Pronger made it a bit more difficult for him to do so?
  10. Unfortunately, if you're looking to reshuffle the deck here, I think Thornton has to go. I agree that he has a ton of value to the White Sox, but if you assume you're going to keep a core of Gordon, Rios, Jake, Danksy, Floyd, Quentin and Alexei, I think Thornton is one of the guys that has to go. I'd look at moving Konerko, AJ, Andruw Jones, Thornton, Jenks, Buehrle, and Juan Pierre if at all possible.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) Aren't you in the health care industry? And I don't know if the state is where you want to be. IL is having the same problems as NY and everyone at state agencies here told me not to bother. There aren't any jobs, raises are barely equal to inflation and job security isn't what it used to be. Federal is where we all want to be...and those jobs are even harder to come by. I just got my 2 month job extended for a year (thank God). The pay is fine for what I'm doing, but it is low for a lawyer and I can't imagine saving much on my salary. So I know what you are going through. That's good to hear, G&T.

Did plyo last night after work. Was a bit tough getting into it but found the second week I had a lot more wind to keep going once I did get my lungs and heart going. I haven't tried the Insanity plyo yet, but I do love the P90X plyo workout. Always feel great afterwards.
  13. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) No reason to panic. Series doesn't start until the home team loses. Lose tonight, however.... Been a great series thus far. I don't claim to be the biggest hockey fan there is, but from what my eyes have shown me, Phili is the first team in the playoffs to be able to challenge us from just walking into our offensive zone AND be able to skate with us enough to attack on their end offensively. Nashville challenged us when entering our offensive zone, but couldn't counter as well because of a lack of speed...Vancouver and San Jose let us just waltz right into our offensive zone. Phili has managed to do both, which is my it seems they have given us all we want and more...
  14. Mark Buehrle, 3-6 4.84 ERA v. Jake Westbrook, 3-3 4.36 ERA Mark Buehrle is 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA in his past five home starts against Cleveland. Since last season's perfect game against Tampa Bay, the left-hander has given up five or more runs in 11 of 24 outings, but he's held the Indians scoreless three of the last four times he's faced them, including a 6-0 season-opening win at home. The White Sox, however, are 1-4 on their nine-game homestand and have batted .217 this season against the Indians. Since winning at U.S. Cellular Field on Aug. 7, 2007, Westbrook is 0-5 with a 5.23 ERA against Chicago. He has received an average of 1.52 runs of support in those outings. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in his three matchups with the White Sox this season. He didn't get a decision in a 3-2 win April 17 despite allowing two runs over seven innings. Cleveland had dropped 13 of 17 before facing the White Sox but now has the chance to record its first three-game sweep in Chicago since May 15-17, 1999. CBS Sports
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) Yesterday I sat out there. Really sad crowd for Saturday fireworks. 30K. A couple things I realized as it was the third game I had attended on the home stand. This team can not get more than 3 hits in an inning. It is amazing how inept they are getting a two out single. Guillen took Peavy out with 96 pitches yet left Buerhle and Danks in there to give up leads.....the only thing I could think of was he was trying to protect a guy that they are going to have for a while. This team is not getting better any time soon. Mitch Talbot is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA against the Sox and 4-4 with 5.5 or something against the rest of the leage. This tells me that the White Sox do not change their approach to a pitcher and just go about whatever it is they think they can do. And the Indians are 13-30 against the rest of MLB and 8-3 against us.
  16. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 07:12 AM) Yet people will claim that is Ozzie's team. In truth as Cowley wrote before this is Kenny's team. Oh man...see, this kind of thing drives me nuts....go back and read the thread a bit.
  17. Happy Birthday, Jer! Enjoy your day, old man...
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) There was no reason. Masterson had lost 11 decisions in a row. Cleveland is horrible with all its players. They are missing 2 of their top 3. Danks was on the mound for the Sox. Last night was as bad a loss as the Sox have had in many years. I've already given them my hard earned money. The least they could do is throw me and everyone else in the same boat a bone starting tonight. Oh trust me, I'm with you, DA....I just know better...
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Handle the vehicle? That's a new twist I haven't heard. How is it you think that vehicle "handling" from DUI's is a cash cow for the government? They tow the vehicle, at the absolute first chance they get, and charge a $500 "administration fee" just to have the opportunity to go claim it from the impound location. You can't just go pick up your car at the lot. You have to go to the police department and pay this fine, in order to get a document which you then provide to the impound to get your car back. The police department does absolutely nothing other than radio the tow truck to pick up your vehicle.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) Peavy will fire a gem tonight. Beckham will homer. Call your bookies. Hah, says the guy that pointed out there was absolutely no reason we shouldn't win yesterday... One of the problems with this team is that analysis means absolutely nothing. They lose games they should win all the time, and they win games they should lose once in a while. They are just absolutely unpredictable. I hope you're correct, but I find it incredible to place my hopes, dreams, or hard-earned money in the hands of this team...
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) On the bolded... this is one of the most popular falsehoods I see repeated about cops. Cops do not make extra money by making more DUI arrests, and neither do police departments. There is no "cash cow" here. Where do you think this cash magically comes from, that isn't sucked up by the courts or jails or police resourcing? Now, I WILL say, that the red light cameras are that. but that's a whole different matter. Not the cops personally. The municipalities and the state. It's the manner in which they handle the vehicle.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Don't worry. I'm not the same "freak" (as my friends like to call me) like I was a couple of years ago either when I drank. I don't drink as often, and I lost a ton of weight as well. Sad when most of your friends can now hang better than you. Oh come on now...as you get older, you realize how foolish it is to try and be the guy who can drink the most...where has that ever gotten anyone? The key is to be the one that has the most fun, not the one who can imbibe the most.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) I do about 12 where I touch my chest to my hands, then I either switch to my knees and max out or just don't touch my hands and do as many as I can. Pretty tough to do the 2nd time around lol. Wow, that's impressive that you actually touch your chest like Tony tells you to...I don't go that low...
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Whatever Walker is preaching, it's obviously not working. I've probably said this a million times on this board, but even if he is the world's greatest hitting coach, he needs to be fired. They need to get another voice in here to hopefully help these guys before giving up on them (ie: Quentin). The approach is awful, I give you that. As for that AJP at bat yesterday, the one thing with Masterson is you have to make him get the ball up. With his sinker, AJP swinging at a low pitch will result in a double play probably 75% of the time. What does AJP do? Swings at a low, outside sinker. It was a good swing by AJP and he didn't try to pull it, but you're not going to do anything with that pitch. I just wanted him to make the guy throw strikes...he had thrown 7 balls in 8 pitches, and AJ swings at the first pitch (that may have even been a ball), then he throws 4 strraight balls to Alexei....I mean, can't they put the damn take sign on or something?

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) Just did it as well. Last one for my first go round at P90X. Felt great! Good work, Gooch. How many diamond pushups are you knocking out now?
