Miller’s stock has to be way down. He’s had a really rough season.

Looking at Phillies top prospects, Aidan Miller sure has had a rough season. This was the guy that the entire board was clamoring over in a Crochet trade if I remember correctly. Overall, their farm system looks rough.

I think I was the only one suggesting the Sox trade Robert and then sign Bader last winter. Would have been a win/win/win. Robert had more trade value, bader costs less $ than Robert this season, Bader has been the more productive player.

I looked it up. 12/24 with 1.103 OPS in first 8 games with the Orioles. Was pretty much all downhill from there.

Good for Andrew but didn’t Eloy start out hot with the Orioles last year too?

Disagree that they should give Robert $20M after these last two seasons. They’ve gotten more from Mike Tauchman in 2025 than they have from Robert in 2024/2025 combined.

I’m probably overthinking but part of me feels Jerry could make one big splash signing as “proof” that he spends money and is willing to fork it over for a star heading into the upcoming labor negotiations. Probably wishful thinking but it’s Jerry so who knows.

I think one could argue the package the Sox received in this trade is also worth more today than 5 months ago.

No, what they SHOULD be doing is signing Kyle Tucker since their payroll will be peanuts in 2026 and beyond. Spend money on an actual superstar that fills a decade long roster hole, not on the hopes and dreams of Trout 2.0.

78 wRC+ this season, 84 wRC+ last season. He’s been the very definition of a below average hitter. Past 1-2/3 seasons combined he’s accumulated 1.1 fWAR. Oh, and then there’s the issue of him constantly getting injured. Sox need to move on; sunk cost fallacy to throw another $20M at this guy.

Another Fedde type signing would be nice. The old man OF signings of Tauchman/Slater/Taylor has produced 2.0 fWAR this season. Not bad for ~$6M combined. Getz has certainly had his misses in FA too but I’d argue he’s done better with the dumpster dive signings than Hahn ever did.

He was still deemed a “high-quality outfielder” because most were still writing off his first half performance to injuries and a typical slow start. Heck, his $20M team options were still considered “reasonable” back then.

Funny we’ve come full circle with a possible return of Acuna and Baty. I recall having that discussion 7 months ago. Highly doubt they’d be able to get both.

It’s like buying and holding a stock that carries more downside risk than upside potential. Value continues deteriorating and you keep telling yourself well maybe if I just hold on to it another 6 months things will improve. 6 months later you’ve dug yourself an even deeper hole and eventually cut bait at a sizable loss. The longer the Sox hold on to Robert the more his value deteriorates. Take what you can get and move on.

Great point. This is why I wanted Robert and Cease traded rather than waiting in hopes of their value increasing. It’s rare that a veteran like Robert or Cease will improve their trade value coming off the seasons they had with the relatively cheap team control they still had. Yes, Cease didn’t have a great 2023 season and might have been more valuable if they traded him 4 months later than they did but I’ve seen holding on to the veteran in hopes of increasing trade value go against the Sox more often than not. If the team had no intention of trying to compete these past couple seasons, you trade those guys as soon as you get a decent offer. That applies to any veteran on the current roster as well.

Sorry, I have to ask. Would cash considerations fall into the “won’t be something all that special” category?

So who declined the trade? Do we even know that? Presumably, the Sox wanted more than Arroyo if they were kicking in money. And yes, Rosenthal is a reputable source but you don’t think executives use him in trade negotiations? Again, rumors are rumors and until a trade is finalized it’s entirely speculation. Anyways, I think we can all agree that half way into the 2025 season teams would take Bellinger over the rotting corpse of Robert lol
