QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) Boers is retiring after the Super Bowl so that should shakeup the lineup. Not sure what 670 decides to do. Bernstein will need a new partner but they are going to be preempted a ton by Cubs baseball. So is he retired? He hasnt been in since the SB but they haven't announced any retirement as far as I know.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) Wonder where Matt will go. I'll be rooting for whoever signs him. He might go to the Packers. Even though they do not typically sign FA I think he would be lethal with them.
-
If they sign Desmond they are going to roll with Avi for next year. You can pretty much book that.
-
I am not a fan of Desmond in anyway but hell, beggars cant be choosers. Anyone the Sox want to add I am fine with to be honest. When you have a team that is short of talent you have to roll the dice with guys who arent considered to be ideal.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) Amazing it's been almost two months since Frazier was acquired and outfield rumors started....and nothing has happened Especially because it seemed like the rumors were initiated by Sox brass.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) For real though pitchers and catcher report in two weeks. This needs to get done. This almost always gives me immediate excitment when I start to hear this every year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Austin Jackson makes way more sense for the Cubs. Better defense and can still get the comp pick when Fowler goes elsewhere (while being way cheaper) Same reasons why he makes more sense to the Sox too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 33m33 minutes ago Johnny Manziel's dad, Paul, told Dallas Morning News, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday." Wow. Why that shouldn't be a shocking statement it is still crazy to hear that from his dad.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) It wasn't changed. It was reported in the first post of this thread, I want to say about week ago or so. Damn, I guess I have been away from ST this past week.
-
Was the title just recently changed to Sox or Cubs for Fowler? When has it been reported that it is down to two teams? Did I miss something?
-
So this is just another attempt of Sox brass trying to force the hand of some other negotiation they have going on, right?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) I cannot imagine Mark Buehrle staying in anything resembling pitching shape if he's not going through ST. LOL This is true but maybe Mark will surprise us.
-
Buehrle should do this every year. He will pitch till hes 50.

QUOTE (chisox802 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) The sox can't do a true rebuild. 5 people would show up at games for however long the rebuild took. I love the sox but were not the cubs, and can't afford to do a true rebuild. I am very frustrated with the FO because we are a piece or two away from being a contender. None of these guys left really appeal to me, and have bust written all over them IMO. Not many show up anyway. That is part of the growing pains that would have to happen. A piece or two is really a long ways away. They need another really good SP. They need another bat in that lineup and they whiffed on all their options the past few weeks.
-
Like bmags said, this has bad idea written all over it. IMO what is sad is that the Sox should have done a complete overhaul this off season and started from scratch and I think it would have been a better PR move than what they have done so far. This team and its direction leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I like Hahn, I think he is a really smart baseball guy but I feel like he has been mentored by KW for so many years so he will have the same tendencies as KW had. Plus I think Hahn is moved by a lot of his decisions with a sprinkle of a KW influence. I hope things turn around, but damn. I do not like that this team is going to be a day late and a dollar short in every aspect of the team. The starting staff is great for the top three and but the last two slots are question marks. The bullpen I think is going to be a great strength however bullpens are the one thing that is fickle from year to year. Its hard to judge. The offense has some really nice pieces but its not solid from top to bottom, it just isnt. Teams with championship expectations have far less question marks than what the Sox are looking at and no one gives you the feeling in the FO that they have a true vision of exactly their what they want to do. They are doing a lot on the fly here, so it seems.

With Ethier turning 34 its like the perfect age for steep decline in production right? How many guys have their better years of their career post 33? Other than the PED users of the past. I seriously dont know. Maybe there are guys who have great numbers after 34+.
-
Where is balta? I need some company that is just as mad as me with how things are going. LOL I don't want to hear about god damn Jacob Turner. I know its soxfest and they are talking about whatever the subject matter that is brought up but still.
-
Wasnt Merkin saying that they were only going to offer 3 years? He is a mouthpiece of the org. Why wouldn't they have put that information out there through him before where it could have been addressed with the fan base while it was all going down. Whatever. So annoyed.

Ventura: "White Sox have potential to be dangerous"

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) For reference: Sox 3B fWAR last season: -1.3 Todd Frazier fWAR last season: 4.4 Sox 2B fWAR last season: -1.2 Brett Lawrie fWAR last season: 0.6 Those 2 changes alone add roughly 7.5 wins to last years team, so a pretty significant difference IMO. They finished 19 games behind the Royals last year. I dont know if a 7.5 game difference will be significant and that's considering the best case scenario. I am not sure Frazier is going to produce a +4WAR next year. I am not trying to be negative or anything. I hope all goes well but I am not going to try to convince myself that this team is something that they are most likely not. -
Ventura: "White Sox have potential to be dangerous"
shipps replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think my anger that I suppressed last year with the thought of "next year things can be better" has now caught up to me because now that next year is almost here I am not sure that things are going to be much better at all. Not looking forward to going through another frustrating season. -

shipps replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah they probably have the most potential to be dangerously bad. Is the Lawrie/Frazier addition going to make last years team THAT much better? No I personally dont think so. They should be better but not enough to make a significant jump from last year in wins. -
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Merkin keeps banging the Avi is going to be better this year dead horse. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 8m8 minutes ago Chicago, IL Garcia has a definite plan this year. When asked what it was, he smiled and declined to elaborate. Has a quiet confidence about him. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 10m10 minutes ago Chicago, IL Garcia admitted to playing too big last year. Wants to be a viable base stealing threat this season. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 11m11 minutes ago Chicago, IL Garcia looks to be in great shape. Said he's benefited from just focusing on season prep and not playing winter ball Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 11m11 minutes ago Chicago, IL Todd Steverson traveled to Miami recently to work personally with Avisail Garcia. That says a lot about what the Sox FO is looking to do. Which is nothing with RF. BTW I am one of the few that likes Avi, mind you.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Always beware when a team is willing to trade a player coming off an injury. That has to be it. That is literally the only thing that makes sense coming out of this trade and everything they have done. I wonder if he even passes the physical.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) And in a related story, the leading candidate for biggest flop in the 2016 draft is now known. LOL Very likely.
-
As things continue to happen around the league it gets more and more likely Garcia is the Whitesox starting RF for next year.
