Sox won't trade for prospects....
quickman replied to EvilJester99's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) He's not trading for prospects, lol. Who does he think he is? Is there a wide array of blue-chip positional and pitching prospects that I'm unaware of? This appears to be nothing more than Williams' arrogance. It's going to run us into the ground soon enough. Trading for Rent-a-players is percisely what we don't want. Neither is acquiring "talent" if it's on the major league roster with several years of service. Why place unnecessary resources into salvaging this season? Even with slight improvements, are we any better than Cleveland, Minnesota, or Detroit? If we're going to improve it should be with the players we currently have. If not, it's time to begin looking towards the future. completely agree. Kenny thinks the public is stupid, Kenny is trying to fool everyone unfortunatly all somebody has to do is watch a game, this team is clearly done. Time to re-build this mess and Kenny doesn't seem to good at that type of thing. -
Crede Out Again, Possible DL Trip (per Score)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Then you atleast get a glimpse of him and see if he's ready to hit major league pitching. If he falls flat on his face then KW has to think twice before just handing him a job in the offseason, there needs to be a backup plan unlike what was done with the outfield this year. Completely agree and a well thought. I am routing for the kid we need someone to step up, I am tired of our prospects lacking talent. This team is rapidly becoming AAA. A few more losses or injuries and we might as well, start rebuilding this thing. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) then we realize that unless we have a 125 million dollar payroll the next few years, our team isn't going to be very good. we will need that type of payroll anyway over the next few years because our system needs a complete overhaul. It will take three years to rebuild it and that is only if we can make some draft changes. I am sure Fields is a solid prospect and could be our only prospect. Hope the kid does well and not like the other scrums we have been bringing up. -

QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) This could be the greatest thing that's happened to our club, KW is now forced to bring up Fields and see if he can fill Credes "big" shoes to fill. and if he sucks, then what. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I wouldn't mind trading Gustavo Molina for Jorge Posada either. I see, so you agree Owens blows. Good your coming along. How about sweeney is he a step above Gustavo, I would trade him too, oh and andersen too. In fact I would trade all three of those clowns for Pie.
-
doesnt matter Pie is the better prospect and I would trade owens for him right now if I had the chance.

Not having Rowand on the team last year was not the reason we didn't win 6 more games to get into the playoffs. The argument really doesn't hold. I like Rowand despite his many double play ground balls. He was deemed expendible because they thought Andersen was ready to play MLB ball. In fact if Andersen would have contributed a bit more like lets say hit 250 or 260 the bulk of the time then aaron rowand would not be a discussion point. Since they seriously miscalculated there own talent this continues to become an issue. last years team on paper was much better than 2005 on paper. Jim Thome is far better than aaron Rowand will ever be. This years team is totally different than the last two. In fact I really don't enjoy watching this years bunch at all. Adding rowand to this mix will be stop gap only because this years team has a major bullpen problem. Without bullpen help, it really doesn't matter if Rowand comes or if Owens is playing or for that matter Terrero. Rowand jsut brings romanticism to an already defeated and deflated team.

I will go on record and say I thought he was a nice player in pods abscence. He knows the game well and the pitchers and plays the game hard. He played nice center field and gave you presence on the basepaths. More importantly his teammates liked him and it appears through both management and teammates that he will be missed. in addition we do not have anyone capable of hitting leadoff now. So for as little as you guys think Erstad did, you will shortly find out that the rest of the bums on this team and in the minors will do much worse. Don't confuse greatness with decent playing ability. He was good at his role, if Brian andersen were any good and if pods was healthy then Erstad would have been your first man off the bench not your starting centerfielder.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 31, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Williams acceptance of the worst outfield in baseball before the injuries, and the reliance on the likes of Terrero and Mack after them to fill the "void" has been bad. Very bad. But one of the worst offseasons a Sox GM ever had? I don't think so. He didn't sign Navarro...he didn't trade Sosa for Bell...he didn't trade for Todd Ritchie (OK, he actually did but not this offseason) and those are just recent offseasons. In hindsight, he should have been more radical and ripped up the team, but I don't think that was obvious at the time. I think we should all write a letter to Kenny Williams begging him to draft/develop some prospects that succeed in the majors (aside from Chris Young) so that quickman will stop. It's the only solution I can see And what a great solution that would be.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) Yeah, but he has really learned to walk this season. Our minors are pretty good dude, you've been ignoring them obviously this year. We have some good arms down there. Rock, All anyone has to do is prove to me they are good arms. The best way to do that is to have htem on the big league roster and succeed. I could care less if they are good in triple or double aa. Means absolutely nothing. Can these guys play on this roster? If they could they would be here. If they can in the future then we will see but I suspect they will go as the great Baj went.
-
that should do it. pretty much over from here. Now start lining up the best trades.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Disagree....Ozzie loves his slappy/speed guys at the top of the order. You know I agree with you with how pathetic our minor league system is. Well we may not have a choice. Our outfield is easily the worst in baseball right now. We will see. Ozzie has already seen sweeney and andersen, and has not seen owens. what the heck the season is over anyway. The truck is slowly backing up.
-
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) Hopefully Owens. He is really the only leadoff option. Even if owens comes up I doubt Ozzie would put him leading off the guy has never hit major league pitching and he is still learning to steal bases. I speculate that maybe Iguchi will lead off, but what do I know. Nothign really except we have no minors worth a damn.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Wherever there's a struggling prospect to be commented on.... you bet because they all suck. and they are all struggling.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Oz says Sweeney or Owens. no please what about the great andersen. Please please. God he deserves a chance. He is great. Please god please ozzie bring back my Brian.Oh wait he really does suck
-
enter the great Brian Fricken andersen, the man who blows chunks. this year is over. Now we get to watch surfer boy and all his groupies on the board.

Adam Russell, Charlie Haeger, Gavin Floyd...
quickman replied to bigred3535's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:59 AM) People interested? But Soxtalk kept telling me he was worthless because he is a knuckleballer... are you sure? most soxtalk people fall in love with the two bit minor leaguers. They cherish there names and begin to buy jerseys with their number on them. They go on and on blaming coaches and Gm's for screwing these great players. Yet they turn out to suck. Good Knuckleballers come about once a decade. Haeger is nothing, and quite frankly no major league manager has the time to deal with wether the wind is blowing right for the knuckler that day, or carrying an extra catcher just because he is the only one that can catch the guy.Its ludicris. This team needs better scouts. We trade our prospects away early because we know deep down they won't project. KW uses the farm wisely in that manner, but now we are getting old and its time to blow this thing up, when we do, other teams prospects will be the mainstay, not ours. -

Trade them all before teams find out we cannot draft. Not one player in our system is a blue chip player. When we get younger it will be because we trade people from our major league roster for other peoples prospects. It will not be to pave way for our own. -
QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) Super....more minor league talent on the big league roster! they all suck, really they all suck, and nobody has proved me wrong.
-
what is the update on crede, what was the injury
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2007 -> 08:14 AM) Hopefully Hall is ready to go, and we aren't putting him at risk for further injury. A cripple could play better than Molina.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) I just don't see how this team can consistently win right now. they are out of sync, with their lineup, coaching, moving runners over, plate presence, everything, completely out of sync. They had a great opportunity to win this game and get off to an excellent start. they are miserable, and for gods sake lets hope everybody doesn't think sweeney is the next sox all star.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) Wow, quite funny. It's hard for me to get too down on him after two magical seasons. should be over soon. Too bad, three run lead blown. would have been a nice win.
-
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) I think the only real offensive prospect in the Sox system is Cunningham. I don't mean to bash Sweeney, but he's struggling in AAA. And even if he weren't, it's not like he'll be a better hitter than Mackowiak. The Sox system is very weak, and if they want to compete they should really trade for an OF that can hit. They'll need one next season anyway. really the sox system is weak? everyone on the board says its great. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) Incoming beginning of Sweeney's arb. clock via sitting on the bench!! Ozzie makes no sense sometimes, play him in LF, we already have an OFer designated to take up space on the bench. they like him better than the surfer dude
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 11:46 PM) Yeah, because 36 year old power hitters always recover right away from rib cage injuries. Thome swings so hard that this has all the makings of a lingering injury. He's a beast against LHP, something we're lacking. fathom all they need to do is play 500 ball until thome is back, then in june or july if they are in it, they will make a trade and get another outfielder. If they are out of it by then , then there will be a mini fire sale, but playing 500 will be a big key.
