QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) One thing for sure, the Toronto people are looking to compete. The fans and media have been on their ass for being an also-ran, and attendance has been down. They've stated they want to be competitive vs. dumping proven major leaguers for prospects, ala the Pirates. What this means in terms of Ted Lilly, I don't know. But I highly doubt it'd be any of our crap in exchange for Lilly. The Sox would have to trade something they don't want to give up. I'm pretty well convinced whatever the Sox might do trade-wise, we are looking at prospects going the other way. Further I think all bets are off right now. For the right piece (ace pitcher, ace closer) I think every single prospect is available. Including McCarthy, Anderson, Sweeney, Gio Gonzalez ... everybody. However if they're looking at tweaking the bench, then you're still looking at trading prospects but obviously not the blue chippers. Lastly I would say guys like Borchard, Diaz have very very little trade value, next to none. Every organization has guys like them. Jim I read what you stated, and its a pretty good summary. What would I be without a comment! I think Lilly is an excellent swing man especially if they don't know about ElDuque. I personally think the sox might want to keep ElDuque on the shelf for a longer period of time. Getting Lilly is not great but he is very serviceable. My second point, You know I care nothing for prospects. In fact I really don't care about BMAC or Anderson or Sweeney. I think prospects are either going to be great or should be used for trade bait. As I have stated many times trade all of them and give me a world series. Therefore, I am sure if we do trade for Lilly that it will be a fair deal because very few of these guys make it. Lastly, If not lilly then why not, Ryan Franklin,or Kip Wells. They can fill the need just as easily. Especially Franklin he eats innings and can swing in the pen if needed.

The score in chicago is stating that El duque was just put on the 15 day DL and Mcarthy will pitch tommorrow.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) Hmm I wonder where they all ran away to? Also, Gload is done for the year, I get the feeling. I agree he is done fro the year, they need to think that way now. I smell more trade coming.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Baj has good numbers, but unless he's improved his stuff and command, I don't think he's going to help this team. many times numbers in the minors don't carry over, which is why I don't think the comes to play with this team, in addition nobody mentions him in trade scenerios, therefore, the guy will be a minor league pitcher and should be eliminated from a playoff contending team.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) The bright spots of the game were Shingo seemed to find the plate more and looked relaxed and confiedent, Vizcaino was ok, and Cotts did his job. I think Marte will be headed to the DL. Maybe we could see Baj up here soon. I dont know whats up with Hernandez...guess it was the pitch count and the fact that he allowed like 3runs on 7 hits. Here's something to think about... If Shingo was Shingo of last year and a reliable closer then we wouldnt have a problem right NOW except for Marte's injury BUT now we gotta seek MORE help in the bullpen and after these two outings, Im afraid we'll need to get some help in the rotation as well. All was good the beginning of the season with these two guys(Hernandez and Count) but now its starting to get frustrating. let me ask, has anyone seen Baj pitch other than those living in that state? I mean really, don't you think if he was that good he would have at least been mentioned by scouts and our managment? I just don't think we need to get excited about this guy. Game over twins win on abloop hit.

1 out with a man on second. Classic twins.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) The one guy from the bullpen I wouldn't mind seeing traded is Marte...he is a total enigma..one day unhittable and the next getting rocked....the only problem is who do they get to replace him in the pen and who will trade a lefty for him...I would love to see Guardado but not sure if Seattle would trade him or not... Of course thye would love to trade him, he too has a no trade, plus I don't know if he is completely healthy. Cuddyer with a broken bat base hit to lead off the inning.
-
fassero in his third inning. its not good.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) The bullpen will need him ... or somebody else. Not trying to be doomsday here but the sooner the better. I agree I hope he departs soon. PS twins coming up tied. Its not good. I don't have a good feeling.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Let me throw this name out there, thought you would have bitten on this when I posted it before. Jamie Moyer. Available? Not available? Good fit here? You know Williams has always wanted him. I think he has a no trade. but I like the thinking. I don't think he will come here, he is really settled in seattle.
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Shingo looks like he may have found his release point...he looks better in his past 2 outings...hopefully it leads to better things for him. He is in a mop up role, not closing. Its a huge difference. PS Giants with man on in the 11th.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) I agree about Hernandez but Contreras' WHIP is 1.21 (15th best in the AL). How is that putting people on base? El Duque's is 1.63 for comparison. what I can tell you is what I watch, I see runners on base alot when they pitch. I stand by my observation. You can disagree, doesn't bother me.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Williams is on the phone as we speak. I can smell something coming. Could be wrong, just a feeling. Sox are playing shorthanded, he needs to fix it and he will try hard to get it done. I agree Jim, I can almost taste a trade.
-
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Now, I'm usually as negative as they come, but Contreras has a bad start and he's labeled as "struggling recently." That's like me saying Timo's on fire lately because he's got 2 hits in his last 5 at bats. I see your catching up on the thread but I agree with fathom, both the cubans throw alot of pitches and put people on base. They do get out of jams many times, but the point is they get in too many jams. Its seems they are always pitching with runners on base.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) These stinker games were bound to happen but it shows the bullpen needs help. Sometimes a team has to go through a stretch to see exactly what's needed and who can be relied upon. Right now I would take Jeff Fassaro over Shingo. I wonder what the Mariners want for the Ancient Mariner, he might be another option even though he's a starter. Williams has always wanted him. I will pass on fassero we can find others.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) i just hope kenny makes a good trade. not give away the farm for something that turns out bad. no harm. just my two cents. I get your point, here is mine though. In the last two years who on the farm have the whitesox developed? Farm is for blue chippers or for trading.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) all and all what i'm saying is that i hope we trade for players who are worth trading for. well of course isn't that the point?
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) TQ as we said Monday nite, they need another lefthander in the pen. Jim they need two bullpen arms. One from the left side. I know where your going.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) i understand that yes. just saying if we do trade and it does not work out. then what do we do trade again? If you want to win the world series you do what you need within reason. If it doesn't work out trade again, or go to your minor league system, which I think would only serve as a very short term solution. (two weeks)

well folks jeff fassero is pitching for the giants in the bottom of the 8th. Turn out the lights.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) we get blown out a few games and everyone demands a trade. what if we do trade in the future and the trade does not pan out? then what? just my two cents. I have been consistant on trade requests. Here is the deal, everyone knows we will try to make a trade anyway before the deadline. now might be the right time. In addition we have been playing with a short bullpen deck since shingo could not get anyone out. We can burn out a pen easily when we do that.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) Couldn't disagree with you more. Marte was easily one of the best lefty relievers in baseball for the past three seasons. Even in his so-called down years, he was way above average. agreed and right now he is not well. I do think the DL is a possibility if not probable at this point. We are dealing with a short bullpen deck when we are winning games. Shingo will not come in when we are winning and now marte is hurting, Viz along better lately is not for a winning situation. we need another arm and soon.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Might as well put Marte back on the DL after tonight. Something is obviously not right with him. this is exactly why they pitched him tonight, it was a good move to figure this out without the game on the line. Time for a trade. shake things up a bit.
