  1. the Southtown continues to speculate on stuff that may happen. I think KW will do something but another outfielder is not what we need. Pitching will win the world series, its that simple. Everyday the Southtown has more speculation.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Gammons is going to report rumors and stuff he hears through the grapevine. That's part of his job. Not all of which are going to pan out. He also mentioned the Nats as pushing hard from Guardado. He could end up there as well as in Chicago. Also to Jim H's point Gammons also said alot of teams are looking at Vasquez including Baltimore. He did not mention the sox as a team looking at him.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Nice to see the Sunday/Sweep lineup back in action. Well, I'm looking forward to it just as much as the rest of you, but, the next time Ozzie wonders why he isn't taken seriously on the national forum, he need not look any further than: Perez 1B or Dye 1B This is totally why Gload needs to be here instead of timo. Sometimes I really don't understand this team at all.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) The Sox could use someone who plays 1st/3rd, such as Alex Cintron, who is out of a job there. They could also use a 1b prospect to possibly succeed Pauly if he leaves after this year. yes I brought that up earlier in the thread and the genious Jim shot it down. I am so pleased others like yourself think the same way I do!! HAH
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Bullpen help no doubt. A guy like Vizcaino would be the Dbags 8th inning guy. Ok then who do we get back if viscaino goes, this would make sense especailly if jenks can prove he can pitch.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Bullpen help. And maybe a wayward chick from Starbucks. well then it has to be viscaino because Takatsu has a no trade I believe and Politte, cotts, and hermy won't be going anywhere. The guy needs to come back tonight because there is a greater chance of seeing viscaino and jenks tonight.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) You didn't drop your trousers again did ya? Back on subject, lets say the sox were being scouted by AZ, in all seriousness who would they be looking at?
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) I'll take Angry Politte for 200 Alex. what does quickman look like while making young women cry at baseball games.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) What would Cliff Politte's reaction be if he got traded? (cue) Politte isn't going anywhere. Are you crazy.
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) Entirely possible they were scouting Tampa, the only bullpen guy they have worth anything is Baez though and their GM said both he and Huff fit for 2006. AZ scouts were watching the Sox in Detroit too. Well they better come back tonight then because nobody that played yesterday is going anywhere.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Two reasons. One, they may not feel they are in it "enough" to hold onto a guy who can demand a trade. Risk/reward. Remember Vazquez balked big time about going to AZ. It's not as if they are nip and tuck, 4 1/2 back and 6 1/2 back in the wild card. Two, if Vazquez stays and does not demand a trade, he is making big coin. It's possible they might want to get cheaper pitching talent. Vazquez gives them innings but he's not having a great year. They may be sour on him, who knows? Remember they did not have to call up Jenks, it could just as easily been Gload. It makes sense as you said to try Jenks out before parting with a bullpen guy. But I do not think they'll part with a bullpen guy to get a position player, I do believe if they must part with a bullpen guy, it will be for a significant upgrade. And I believe that significant upgrade to be a starter. I am not against giving up bullpen help to get a starter and I hope your right about vasquez but being 4.5 out in that s***ty division is not much to overcome. i think it is telling that AZ had scouts at the game again, but they may have been scouting tampa not the whitesox.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) I think you have seen the last of Brandon McCarthy this year with two exceptions: Dire emergency or a Sept. start after a clinch. Not disagreeing, never thought he was ready anyway.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) It seems to fit. Not saying those three guys specifically for Vazquez but I don't think this is beyond the realm of possibility. The Sox have always wanted Vazquez, no doubt about that. I would not be surprised. Unless Jenks falls flat on his face, my guess is this a guy Guillen and KW want on the team for more than just 7 days. He is a huge power arm, completely different than anyone else on the staff. But if he stays and Marte comes back, someone has to go besides Kevin Walker. I think Vizcaino is coming around and is better than he's shown, but if he is a key bullet to get a starter, so be it. Something is up. Jim again, why would AZ give up there number 2 starter if they think they are in it? The dodgers are free falling and the Padres are catchable although I personally don't think anyone in that division will catch them.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) I still think a starter is needed. There is no guarantee El Duque will be healthy the second half, and his reputation as a big game pitcher while well deserved is from several years and a shoulder surgery ago. Contreras is Contreras. Who knows what kind of performance he'll turn in on a given night. I could live with 1 question mark, not 2. Dick, I won't disagree with you but I can live with wagner and what we have even if its bmac pitchign like s***, because our pen would be lights out. I fully expect KW to try for a starter.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) If KW can't land a Schmidt,Clemens, or Burnett type, I would look for him to add a starter and reliever. Billy Wagner may be available. Kip Wells could probably be had a reasonable price. Well, Dick I would welcome Billy wagner and keep the starters we have. It really moves everyone up a notch. It would be a 5 or 6 inning game and really a shutdown bullpen. We would really be untouchable, although I do not think Wagner will be coming here. In talking with Jim today, I just feel our roster moves lately are strange. basically unless there is a trade soon, Jenks is here for 7 days, and its not really a full seven day schedule. Then you have gload tearing the cover off the ball, and not being activated, Konerko to me needs time off or else he will take a 230 batting average to the allstar game but Gload still is not activated even thoughTimo is rarely used. Its just a strange and tells me something has to happen soon. I hope jenks succeeds because then we could trade viscaino.
  16. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) What leads me to believe the Schmidt deal is not dead is that the parties protested too much when the story broke. I think both sides are still in evaluation mode. The Giants want to keep shopping for a better offer while the Sox still aren't sure Schmidt isn't damaged goods. Vfan, I actually agree with you that the deal is not dead, I think its tabled. My speculation is /was that a deal was almost there until BMAC crapped on himself. If he would have had a half way decent outing I think it would be done. Right after Bmac stunk everyone came out and said there was no deal. I do think that things are still on the table unless each can find a better deal. Maybe they are taking the next week to figure that out. As for Jim wanted Vasquez, KW always wanted him, but I don't think they would trade there number 2 pitcher if they think they are in it. Now a bullpen arm like Viscaino and maybe Willie harris for cintron maybe more like it!
  17. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Its called being a realist, most people here are in fairyland, and think things are great before this season. We still have # 5 starter issues since OH can't stay healthy, we have Garland and Marky playing their asses off, and Freddy showing signs of his former self. B-mac looks like Felix Diaz part 2 so far, granted the kid is young, but all that hype and never was able to get it going in the majors or triple-A.. I like where we are at, just think things could be better, sorry If I want to fix the flaws that we have in the sox, and not just settle for a playoff berth. Anthrax I am realist also, we will continue to have a #5 issue all year. I personally think El Duque will be injured all year, on and off. Contraras is risky, but I also believe KW will get another pitcher. In addition i think we need to shore the bullpen get another reliever and get another infielder. Thats how Realistic I am. I don't believe with the team we have now that we can win the world series. But I love this team, its a great team so far, and they keep plugging away. They have something this year and although you don't like KW he will add to this team. Its our year. Right now.
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Yeah, and your point is excatly?? He finshed with a strong second half, and helped his team get to the playoffs. What am I missing here? Anthrax, I thought I was the most negative person on this board (but very solid Sox fan) but you make me look like a pussy. Excuse me while I adjust my dress.
  19. Well the word must be getting out because on MLB.com it said Pods was neck and neck with jeter
  20. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Giants are actively pursuing potential trade partners, but Colletti reiterated that right-hander Jason Schmidt will not be included in any deal. "We don't have any intention of trading Jason Schmidt,'' Colletti said. "If we can improve our starting pitching, we've got a chance to put ourselves in a better position in the second half, and I don't think we put ourselves in a better position by trading Jason Schmidt.'' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this pretty much sums up the schmidt rumor Alright well this rumor has been out there for a week, and just after mcarthy proved he won't be able to pitch in the bigs for two years everyone is making comments. My take is if mcarthy would have at least shown he was capable this trade would be still moving along. Just my opinion.
  21. Don't know if this was posted, but this is from the San Jose Mercury news today: San Jose Mercury News (registration required) (scroll down): "The Giants are actively pursuing potential trade partners, but Colletti reiterated that right-hander Jason Schmidt will not be included in any deal. 'We don't have any intention of trading Jason Schmidt,' Colletti said. 'If we can improve our starting pitching, we've got a chance to put ourselves in a better position in the second half, and I don't think we put ourselves in a better position by trading Jason Schmidt.'"
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Not many people call to bring up a single A pitcher who just came off an injury, but maybe in your world they do. My point Rock is that they would just move on to another player. Pick one. They are all injured aren't they.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) Exactly. Every time we bring some AAA pitcher up, he sucks out loud and he soon has no more trade value. I have a question. What will everyone here do if Baj comes up and falls flat on his face? Answer: When will the Sox bring Up GIO?, Why are they not giving GIO a chance! thats what they will say.
  24. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) There is no denying these kids have talent. The real problem that I see after looking at everything that has transpired over the past few seasons is that this organization has no clue when a prospect is ready to contribute at the major league level. A prime example of this was a few seasons ago when Neal Cotts was called up to take over the 5th starter slot. His command was terrible, but his overall numbers were great. Anyone who follows the game knows that poor command in the big leagues will lead to a lot of problems and indeed it did. I enjoy following the minors because at times it can provide a glipse of our future. I've also enjoyed meeting and talking with several of our prospects. This was not a knock on the talent of any of these guys. It is simply a questioning of why our farm system continuously calls up guys who are either A) not ready or B. not what they were hyped to be. Since our Baseball America ranking in 2000 as the top farm system (which was grossly exaggerated because hardly anyone panned out at that time) our system has been going downhill. I think it needs to be examined, plain and simple. I thought that is what Wilder was trying to do, but I will say they tend to overrate there own talent, and then bring them up at the wrong time. I personally don't think they have "blue Chippers" right now. They have some nice prospects that with years of development could contribute later but nobody that will be a blue chipper.
  25. great story, now GET Married!
