QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Sure we did. Ask my native american friends about that one. You forget that native americans, or as I like to call them Indians, were some of the most savage people that ever walked the earth. They killed and scalped pioneers for the fun of it. I'm not saying we were innocent in all of this, but they weren't the little innocent native americans that people try to make them out to be today.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) They should have a trial and execution on the place they stand when they are captured. amen.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) How many people in U.S. history have died from terrorism on our soil? Torturing will only recruit more extremists to want to do more harm to us. Letting the terrorists know how soft we are on them when they are captured will only convince more people to join these groups because even if they are caught, they are gonna be treated like the common thief instead of the terrorists they are. If anything, torture keeps people from joining these groups because of the fear of getting caught.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Here's what kinda pisses me off about the whole thing. Cheney keeps saying "but look what info it got us". So, basically, he is saying the ends justify the means, which is NOT what we stand for as a country. We are against torture... no matter what the results. So, for Chaney to say what he is saying, says he doesnt give a rats ass about the constitution, the Geneva conventions, or the rights of humans. As long as we get what we want, the rules be damned. Apparently, what we did to the terrorists is basically the same stuff we do to some of our own soldiers for training. So, how can that be qualified as torture, unless you want to say joining the armed services is torture. Also, the terrorists don't apply to the Ganeva conventions, and this s*** isn't even mentioned in the constitution. Also, now instead of bringing terrorists for intel, soldiers are just going to shoot to kill now. If we can't get any vital info out of them, and if we arrest them, all that's gonna happen is the possibility of them being released.

That ain't Fautino De Los Santos. It's probably Frank De Los Santos. Fautino is still recovering from TJ surgery. And even if Fautino is back, no team would have had him throw over 20 innings already.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Actually Birmingham has quite a bit of pitching talent. (Including Poreda, Ely, Omogrosso, Harrell, Santeliz, Nunez...) They're 3rd out of 10 teams in the Southern League with a 2.85 team ERA. (The league leader has a 2.60. So the Barons are not that far from the top spot.) Birmingham has some solid pitching talent, but it's moreso in the bullpen, IMO.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) infante finally gave up a run.... 5 IP 4 H 3BB and 4 Ks so far Looked like he wasn't the prospect we thought he was.... In all seriousness though, you gotta like the starting pitching talent we got down in Kanny. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I firmly believe that Hudson is the best starting pitching prospect we have.

I have a question... how can the people who advised the torture be prosecuted? What laws did they break?

Give Alexei until June. That's two months. If he starts to hit, no need to change anything. But if Alexei is still struggling and Beckham is raking, maybe the move would be necessary. However, I think Alexei will heat up with the weather (not as good as last year, but above average) and Anderson will be decent enough to stay in CF.

I'm a law abiding citizen...

AA has all the hitting and a little pitching talent, while Kanny has all the starting pitching and a little hitting talent. Hopefully within the coming years, it will be a nice balance of awesome all around for all 6 of our affiliates.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) lol, nah the closest I ever came to torturing a guy (not really torture, it's permitted) was when he started getting smart w/me so I made him stand in a squatting position for a few mins while I rephrased my question. I actually wanted to slap him but I couldn't. I had a religion teacher who thought he was all badass (he was a some-what old guy who said he knew all these moves, like he could rip your heart of your chest, kill you by barely touching you, and crap like that. He also claimed he knew how to throw a chie ball, oh and that he was trained for several year in martial arts and s*** like that. Plus he tries to act all mysterious and never reveal much about his past) and said if he wanted to, he could make me give up a secret of national importance. Of course I denied that he could make me talk. However, some of his torture ideas were a bit creepy that he would have actually thought of them. His favorite was to stuff a hose in someone's mouth, and pin shut your nose and, well, your man hose. I must say, that is just plain wrong.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:17 AM) Wow, you're just way off. Over 10 seconds had passed before Abreu called time. I don't know if you realize this but that's an eternity and would freeze any hitter. Trying to put any blame on the umpire or Abreu for this is ignorant. Suspend an umpire for calling time in a completely justified situation? You must love Beckett or something. Release angle all messed up. LOL. I hate Beckett, but I hate stupid umpires a lot more. So what if it was a long set by Beckett. You still don't call time when he was in the process of throwing. That can injury the pitcher. It should be a new rule where umpires can only call time when they are 100% sure the pitcher isn't in the process of throwing. Also, have you ever been in the process of throwing ball, and right before you do, someone screams stop? If so, you'll realize that in that situation, you'll be distracted and the ball will likely go no where where you intended it to. Oh, and I wouldn't like it either if Abreu was yelling at me for that s*** as well. I could very well see how someone could get pissed at Abreu about that.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) Geez, it's bad enough when it's just Kap doing it, but please try to keep these kinds of over-the-top posts out of the wrong threads. Sorry sire.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) If Gates retires in a couple years, Obama should nominate Quentin to be Secretary of Defense. The Sox fan in him probably won't allow that though. Q is actually the Secretary of Awesomeness. Only a few high ranking CIA officials and Obama know about this, but I got connections.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Re point #1 - the problem is, sir, NO ONE in the world will play by the rules but us, so what's the point? Do you think Mr. Chicomm gives a s*** about an American and his "rights" if we ever got into a war with them? GMAFB. And the world is full of roses. I guess that's my point. None of our enemies play by the rules. I'm not for 285 times or whatever it was, if that's really true. But if there are lives to be saved, then you have to do some things that you don't want to do as a government. I have a feeling that some of this stuff was cherry-picked to make it look like something else. If you're going to cherry pick s*** to release, release it all. Re point 2 and 3 - these people seize on this stuff as weakness, not strength. I'll get more into that later. Kap, would you want these innocent freedom fighters who were standing up against evil America to be treated poorly? Of course not! They should all be given nice hardy meals 3 times a day, nice cozy beds, basically anything they want! And if evil America ever needs to get info from them, they should just ask politely. Cause you know what, they might be chopping off heads of every American they capture, but they are just overreating after years of oppression by the American Government. We need to be better than them. Oh, and we need to give them civilian trials, because they deserve to be American Citizens!

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:44 AM) The name of the book Chavez gave to Obama? "Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent," by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano, which blames foreign interests like the United States for exploiting Latin America for centuries. I sincerely hope our president threw that book out the window. If not, I'm even more worried than before. And in fact, that book is probably right up Obama's alley. Obama has said many times it is America's fault for everything! He even said we should respect Chavez! LOL, respect a dictator??? I'm having a hard time respecting the president of the country I love right now. Well, he won't lie to us. He says 90% of guns in mexico come from the USA. That must be right... Oops, I think his numbers are off by a few percentages. oooh, it's actually 15% percent of the guns come from the USA. You must have had a bad source there Mr. President! Oh well, at least the banks are starting to pay back to loan money to the government... uh oh, hold up a second! The gov won't except the money!?!?! What's up with that??? In fact, Obama is trying to give the banks more money? Hmmm... sounds like Mr. President is trying to nationalize the banks to me. But what do I know? I'm just some far right nutjob who should be put on several watch lists.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Waterboarding a man 183 times in a month is not an intelligence issue. Except maybe an issue of the intelligence of the people ordering it. I'm sure the guy being "tortured" at least got to keep his head.
-
It's just the angle of the picture. I have a fear this will begin the curse of Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!! Either that, or nothing changes... OR we go undefeated for the whole year. Also, Obama bowed down to Quentin and kissed his feet.

I think the suspensions are uncalled for anyway. He wasn't throwing at Abreu, and if anything, Abreu overreacted. The reason why the pitch was high and tight was because Beckett's release angle on the pitch got all messed up when he saw the umpire stop and call for time when he was in the middle of throwing. Hell, I'd suspend that umpire for calling time when a pitcher was in the process of throwing. If a batter asks for time, you don't need to grant it. The MLB has become too much of a pansy league. The umpires today need to let the players play the game, and the league has to stop overreacting over small crap like this. Nothing happened, no punches were thrown.... let the players play!

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Anderson is doing just fine right now. It's odd that he has no extra base hits, but his on base is above .400. Can't ask for more. As long as pitchers keep walking him 1-2 times a game, I'm perfectly content with him in CF.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) I love being around DBack fans listening to them piss and moan about trading him! That's the argument I always have when I hear Sox fans b**** (a small few I think) about trading Young. DBack keep Carlos without Young IMO. Quentin > x5 Young I'd take Flowers, Lillibridge, and Gilmore over Young any day of the week.
-
Today's home run was the best, IMO. Unlike the other 2 in this series, that was a line drive that was absolutely murdered.

If Fields could learn how to hit the fastball, he'll have a shot at being pretty good. But that was just embarrassing seeing him swing late on 3 straight 90 mph fastballs right down the middle. I would also trade anyone not named Gordon Beckham, John Danks, or Carlos Quentin for Andre Ethier.
