  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) In 4 years in the minors, Lucy averages a .257 BA with a .680 OPS. In 7 years in the minors, Toby Hall averaged .310 BA with an .817 OPS. Hall's major league numbers (.262 BA and .674 OPS) are similar to Lucy's minor league numbers. well, at this point in his career, Hall is terrible with the bat... if neither can hit, at least Lucy can play D.
  2. you know what, if there is proof that a certain person knows something, and the info he (or she) knows is vital to national security and in the fight against terrorism, I have no problem with whatever means of torture they inflict on the terrorist scum.
  3. MacDougal's stuff is as good if not better then Jenks' stuff. However, the difference so far has been Jenks ability to consistently throw strikes.
  4. why do so many people want MacDougal off the team? He's our best reliever, no doubt, when he throws strikes. And he has been throwing strikes.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) Then make one. Movies are made to sell tickets and DVD's, for the most part (with a few exceptions). Its a business. So if no one is making them, chances are, its because no one wants to see them. Which I doubt is because no one appreciates the troops. Its that most people won't go for that kind of movie right now, for a complex array of reasons. Or are you suggesting the government should somehow manipulate the free market of the media? well, judging by the ticket sales of some movies like redacted and that one that just came out, they bombed, which is good. And no, I don't want the gov't to manipulate the media... I'd just like to see a good pro America war movie, something that actually shows the good that the troops have done.
  6. I can't see the game, but is Crede and others being made look foolish with breaking balls low and away?
  7. Fields 4-4 now with a double, home run (both oppo), 2 singles (both to left), and 2 rbi's. And as fathom said, Broadway with a real good outing. 7 IP, 1/1 R/ER, 5 H, 4 K's, and 3 BB's. Those BB's cost him a run. Looks like he really wants to take someone's spot in the rotation.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Why is he stubborn? I think he just doesn't have the stuff he used to. His forkball used to be one of the best pitches in baseball....now he can't get Clete Thomas to chase it. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a fact... Contreras has nothing anymore. He has lost velocity, lost the bite on his fork ball, and throws nothing but junk. Add that to the fact he struggles throwing strikes, and any runner with any speed can steal off of him, you got a recipe for one long season for Contreras. The only problem is that no team will want him. Looks more and more like we'll have to eat that 20 million. Maybe if we're lucky we can get a prospect (not a good one most likely) for him in a trade if we eat a good majority of his contract.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) So you think making more pro-American war movies would help end this war? I honestly don't get where you're coming from here. did I ever say help end the war? No, I didn't. But patriotic, pro-American movies can give the people something to watch and make them feel proud of their country over. Look back at the 40's and 50's, there are probably hundreds of patriotic war movies. Now, you'd be lucky to find one. It is just something that can help boost moral, and perhaps just bring people together, realizing who the true heroes of this country are.
  10. well, talking about presidents we adore... I don't how good of a speaker he was, but Andrew Jackson was a badass.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) That was going to be automatic. If players and managers were allowed to say whatever they feel about umpires without penalty, umpires safety would be in danger. There are a lot of sickos out there. Ozzie knew he would be fined. I think he said it so the league would put Cuzzi's crew on White Sox games as little as possible. don't the umpires have a schedule that they go by, which is probably already pretty much set?
  12. I have no problem with people thinking we should end the war in Iraq, etc, and gradually make our way back home... But, IMO, it would be utter stupidity to completely withdraw all troops within 6 months or whatever Hillary wants. Obama hasn't really said what he would do yet though, but it would be something in the lines of withdraw I imagine. Just packing up and leaving right away will provide us with an even worse situation then we have right now. Kinda OT here, but Americans need to give their support to the troops, and stop making/seeing anti-american War movies... I would love to see just one patriotic film made for our troops. All we have out there is garbage to try and degrade our troops.
  13. I know this speech wasn't made by a president, but one of my all time favorite speeches was Gen. Douglas Macarthur's farewell speech (the one to congress, not westpoint)... "old soldiers never die, they just fade away."
  14. It is a scary thought to completely leave Iraq, leading it wide open to Iran and Al Quieda(sp?) to take power there. If they do, gas prices would seem cheap as to what they would then eventually be, if the wrong people get their hands on that oil.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Ely is gonna be starter, he got real good stuff, so he is a starter because that is his future role. oh, for some reason I thought he was a reliever in college like Long was... my mistake.
  16. Ely is just being used as a starter to get stretched out, right? I see Matt Long made an appearance today and got the save as well.

    Steff?

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Steff has been posting youtube clips of her and her baby, Briana, if you want to see them. Link how long were you waiting to use that? lol...
  18. Rouse can be considered a shortstop. He doesn't really have a definite position.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) To be completely honest, Miguel Cabrera looks like he's in fantastic shape right now, so I don't know if I'd say it's because he's out of shape. I'd say it's more because he's just an absolutely terrible fielder more than it is fat and out of shape. if the Tigers were smart, they'd dump Jones, put Cabrera in LF, and have Inge at 3B.
  20. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) We won 9 in a row in '06? I thought we didn't.. yep... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/i...;m=6&y=2006 Between June 15-24, we won 9 straight. We won the first 8 easily it seemed, but in the 9th game, it seemed like we tryed to lose it, but wound up winning.
  21. I know I was a negative little b**** for most of the offseason, but actually seeing good baseball being played has made me all giddy inside.
  22. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) Looks like I get atleast one more gamethread huh? I hope we get it to 9 and break the magical barrier that has blocked this team for years! I don't know... perhaps in world series years for us, we can only win 8 games in row. If we win anymore, karma will screw us over. Just think, what would the 06 season had been like if we didn't win that 9th game in a row (it was a saturday game with Garland getting rocked, but Crede hitting a slam)? Perhaps we would have had back to back world series titles
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) I assume you mean Fields would have less average and more K's right? Crede doesn't strike out (or walk) that much. It's written kind of confusing. yes, of course I mean more K's. Come on now, we might have some disagreements, but you should know that I'm not a bumbling imbecile
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) already? There's absolutely no way one can argue that accurately. You expect him to be? Fine. But as of right now? That's just a distortion of the facts. not really. You give Fields another 100 AB's last year, and he'd probably get his HR total up to 30 with an RBI total around 80. So, that would mean he would have matched Crede's career high in HR's and be 10 shy of Crede's career high in RBIs... in about 80 less AB's. Plus, last year Fields 35 walks were more then Crede's career high in a season. I think Fields would at least match Crede's production with less average (and K's) but with more power and possibly OBP. The wildcard here is the defense.
