  1. he could probably be a more efficient passer then Grossman. Has a nice tight spiral on his snaps, and deadly accuracy.
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) I have several thoughts... The officiating was flatout AWFUL. NU basically couldn't run the ball (the yards were there, but a 4-yard average against Duke is abysmal, and they had no consistency) because they called a holding penalty virtually every time, and I believe Duke only had one. Plus there were several potential pass interference calls, with NU getting ONE of about 5 potential calls to go their way. There was also the running into the kicker call that really should have been roughing the kicker, that first down would have made a HUGE difference. Granted I was there which always makes things look worse than they are, but that looked like arguably the most poorly officiated game I've ever seen (having almost 200 penalty yards combined is just ridiculous, and it sure seemed like there was more than a 50-yard disparity), and it seemed like NU got virtually no calls. That said, it shouldn't have mattered. As you said, some poor decisions and missed opportunities. They failed on four 4th down conversion attempts within field goal range. Granted the last two they needed a touchdown, but the first two they really didn't. Get 3 points on any 2 of those 4 and it's going to overtime, and if it's the first two times you eek out a win. They also had two seperate drives late in the game where they had a good chance to score the go-ahead TD. NU out-gained Duke by almost 200 yards and grossly out-played them in the second half and had little to show for it on the scoreboard. Between the refs and the missed opportunities, I can't remember the last game I left feeling so pissed off. Pretty much sums up my feelings about the game.
  3. and then all the wheels fall off for SD.
  4. I was just thinking, if the Chargers want any hope they need a big defensive/special teams play... then they force the fumble.
  5. The Pats are sick as hell... I still hate them, but damn.
  6. he couldn't hold Mannaley's jock That half court shot was sick.
  7. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 09:00 AM) Trading either Danks or Gio would be fine with me. Trade both even. Neither one is an elite pitching prospect. I agree that Danks looks like a 5th starter with limited upside right now. lolz. Gio is considered one of the top lhp prospects in baseball. He is a top 25 talent. Now, he might not be elite, but he is certainly a top talent. And you don't just trade away pitchers who can become possibly a no. 2 or even possibly an ace just because they are't considered "elite". And as far as Danks go, read my post just before this one. IT IS HIS FREAKING ROOKIE SEASON!
  8. I find it laughable that Danks is now nothing more then a 5th starter now because he ran into some trouble in his ROOKIE season. Jon Garland got knocked around pretty good his rookie season. I'd say he is better then a 5th starter. That's just one example... there have been plenty of good middle of the rotation guys who in their rookie season sucked. Now, I am not going to say Danks is going to be an ace or no. 2, but I think he will at least be a 4 but probably a 3. And call me crazy, he will be better then McCarthy.
  9. My short list of what needs to be done: 1. Rid ourselves of Contreras. Perhaps we can trade him plus prospect(s) for someone better with a similar contract or just rid ourselves of most of his salary, somehow. 2. Sign one of Rowand/Fukodome to play CF. Preferably Fukodome -> more upside and is a lefty. 3. Get a new SS in here somehow. 4. Get at least 1 GOOD veteran bullpen arm.
  10. how sweet it would be to have him as our head of scouting, if not GM.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) If they could get this in place, it would leave MLB 1 step short of what I'd consider my ideal testing system; blood and urine tests, including all known steroids and HGH...but you still need to arrange for some sort of sample storage to allow for testing in the future as new designer steroids are uncovered. agreed on all accounts...
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) 1 week is going to give KW confidence? KW put together a horrible team, but don't mistake him as an idiot. I don't know... I've been wondering why Uribe was brought back for 07... Walker and KW see an "elite" player in Uribe
  13. I will be pissed as hell if Uribe's play over the past week gives KW enough "confidence" to pick up his option...
  14. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) He's got a long wait. Or a very short one... if 08 is a repeat of 07, a change would be inevitable. NVM... I forgot about that new 4 year plan through 2012.
  15. RF in 2009 (he will tear it up next season at Chatlotte).... Do not doubt the awesome-ness of Sweeney.
  16. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) Good list. Some great. Some good. Some not so good. Crapshoot. LOLZLZLZ!!!!!! crapshoot? Alex Rodriquez, Chipper Jones, Ken Griffey Jr.... crapshoot?
  17. QUOTE(kevo880 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) I really hope the WhiteSox organization stops putting our young starters in the bullpen. I realize it gives them major league experience, but pitching out of the bullpen is a different mentality that most of the starters have never experienced which also leads to early struggles. These young hurlers have a difficult enough task as it is moving from the minors to the "show", I hate that management makes it even more difficult on them by putting them in situations they've never been in before. It worked out for Buehrle and Liriano and plenty of other pitchers in the big leagues.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) You guys want to lose every night to get a shot at those names? I'll be breathless counting the days til the draft. Give me free agents and Japanese players any day over no names in the draft that likely will not pan out judging the Sox history of draft picks. lol, I bet you've never watched a college baseball game in your life.
  19. I didn't know he threw a splitter... In his two brief appearences, I have been pleasently surpised. He doesn't have over-powering stuff, but a lot of movement and pretty good command which will only hopefully get better. A couple of those splitters he threw were plain filthy. I think he is making a name for himself as a major competetor to replace one of Garland/Contreras, and if not then start the year in the bullpen.
  20. my mini big board: 1.) Pedro Alvarez, 3B (1B, RF?) 2.) Justin Smoak, 1B 3.) Brian Matusz, LHP 4.) Harold Martinez, SS 5.) Isaac Galloway, OF 6.) Brandon Crawford, SS
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Yeah, he's not too bad. I notice a lot of people on here talk about salary. Is he worth the money he'll command? No. So sign Hunter, who will be worth it.
  22. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) ....who costs a gabillion dollars more. last time I checked teams were willing to pay way above market value in free agency and that for a pitcher of Garland's status, 12 million is a worthy price. Basically, they can get Garland for 12 million or sign someone not as good to a ridiculous 3 year 29 million dollar deal or something.
  23. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) They basically need pitching and maybe a solid spect OF wise. I'm thinking we can basically sell off a Broadway/McCulloch (or even perhaps both) and maybe a young OF (BA?) and perhaps that could entice them and maybe add a throw in. But who knows if they are willing to trade THAT kind of talent in the same division even though Sisco had high upside when they traded him to us. Well, I could see DeJesus becoming available if Moore and co. feel Gathright can take over in CF and as the leadoff hitter. He has done very good in limited AB's this season. If we could combine something like McCulloch, Collaro, and Phillips for DeJesus, where do I sign up?
  24. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) What's his contract situation? I've always thought he was a bit underrated just because he's stuck in KC. pretty damn good...
  25. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Jennings was coming of a much better season than Garland will be and was significantly cheaper. And that was abad deal for Houston, which I'm sure GMs have noticed. Garland won't get anything close to what Jennings brought. Jennings was coming off of a better season, but Garland has a much better track record and is widely considered throughout baseball as the better pitcher.
