  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) August 1st is tentatively going to be a huge day for FutureSox.com August 1st is also when my summer officially ends. YAY!
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) But, despite the fact that I am a pretty big Donny Lucy fan, I am starting to think it might be better to have Armstrong take the driver's seat for the backup job behind Flowers (over Lucy). He has hit better (not saying much), and hits the oppo side, which Ozzie will like. If you have a right handed starting catcher, I don't think it really matters which way the backup bats. Sure it might be nice, but whatever. However, I wouldn't mind keeping Pierzynski around as a backup catcher/1B/DH/pinch hitter type, if he'd be willing to accept a reduced role. He just isn't very good behind the plate anymore. One thing that I have been thinking about though is if having a spanish speaking backup catcher is more beneficial than we realize. If you're good, you'll be good no matter who's behind the plate. But it might help when your struggling and both the pitcher and catcher can both communicate better.
  3. I was Alexei's biggest fan, but the more I see him play, the more I think he'll never come close to reaching his potential. He shy's away from contact at 2B for DP's, has no range to his right (at least at SS), isn't very bright, and I really dislike his approach at bat. He's gonna be a decent player for a while, but a very frustrating one due to his lack of consistency/concentration/baseball IQ. I got no problem trading him while his value is still very high.
  4. QUOTE (Cowch @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Which prospects do you think are touchable/untouchable at this point? As someone else stated, no one is untouchable. But on the MLB roster and in the minors, the following are probably not going anywhere: Danks, Floyd, Thornton, Beckham, Quentin, JorDanks, Flowers, Viciedo, Hudson, and maybe Jenks and Ramirez. Buehrle and Konerko, I think odds are they will practically finish their careers with the White Sox. Buehrle will probably play his last season or two for the Cards, and Konerko, I think he'll be around for another 3-4 years at least (unless he reverts back to 07/08 Paulie for good). Dye is also a possibilty to stick around for quite a while as well. Thome, he is unmoveable this year, but I highly doubt we bring him back. He can barely catch up to a 90 mph fastball anymore. He might jump on as part time DH with some team that is a definiant WS contender. The rest, they could be had for the right price.
  5. No one answered it before and I want to ask it one more time... Were there really no better USA Shortstop prospects than Danny Espinosa?
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) There turned out to be a big flaw in projecting future power development based on how Jason Giambi's power developed. So, are you saying if we bring Teahan in, load him up on PED's, we got ourselves a late 90's/early 00's Jason Giambi on our hands? Interesting.
  7. I like Teahan, would be a solid option around the diamond. He could get time in LF to ease Q along, he could play some 3B, 2B, be the backup 1B, etc. And he ain't a bad hitter who might do better in a change of scenery. The fact we are in the same division doesn't mean anything cause the Royals know they won't be competing for a while, and Teahan isn't some stud they will regret forever for trading away.
  8. I'm gonna guess Cole gets put on waivers or something. We likely want to clear that spot on the 40.
  9. They are not even close to a contract with Strasburgh either. Wouldn't surprise me to see Strasburgh not be playing professional until 2010.
  10. Don't worry.... he's sterile. I know, I learned the hard way.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) Only took 3 at bats to come to this conclusion, huh? OKKKKK. Anyway, I might be in the minority here, but I personally don't mind if a former White Sox farmhand does well with another organization. As long as it's not for a rival team (I.E. somebody from our division) or the Cubs, it doesn't bother me a bit. If anything, it gives more credibility to your minor league system as a whole. I'd imagine you'd have a lot more potential trade partners when it's been proven that guys that come through your system produce. Extremely small sample size, yes. But I didn't like 1 thing I saw out of him yesterday.
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 02:16 AM) Technically undrafted is correct. It just means he wasn't drafted, which is true. Of course he was undrafted... he can't get drafted!
  13. What has the White Sox Organization told you about your timetable? Were you expected to move up from Kannapolis all the way to Birmingham like you have? What has been the biggest difference between A ball hitters and AA hitters? What has been the thing you needed to work on most when moving up leagues? Judging by your numbers in College, it looked like you had mixed results. How has the White Sox Organization helped you in becoming a more consistent pitcher? No one really knows what your breaking pitch is and there have been reports saying it's a curve and others saying its a slider. So, what is your breaking pitch? We've had a report saying you topped out at 98 in Birmingham. Does that sound right to you? If so, has your velocity increased in the past 1+ since college? Is there a pitcher in the MLB that you compare yourself to? Is there a certain pitcher in the MLB that you love to watch? Another favorite prospect around here is Tyler Flowers. There have been reports that he is raw behind the plate. Assuming he caught a couple of your games so far, how did he handle catching?
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) I see him all the time, do you want me to try and get an interview? He's agreed to answer some questions over facebook, so hopefully we get a lot of good info out of that.
  15. Dan has agreed to an interview with us, and I'll be sending him a list of questions this week. So, post all those questions you have for him in here!
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:29 AM) They can't. wikipedia lied to me once again.... or they terribly mis-phrased what they were saying.
  17. well, the Red Sox are in the same division, so I guess perhaps that has a little to with JP's demands from Boston.
  18. The Nats need to fire a whole lot more people, including players. I kinda like Acta and he got a raw deal in Washington. He was surrounded with a bunch of crappy ball players. I have no idea why Ryan Zimmerman signed an extention with them when he did.
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) One of my favorite things to do when I'm bored is to find threads like these from 2003, when Sweeney-Anderson-Reed were going to patrol the OF for the next 10 years, Kris Honel was going to be pitching behind Buehrle, and Royce Ring was going to be closing soon. If the Sox can get major league production from two of Flowers, Mitchell, Carter, Hudson, and Danks, it's a huge success. Or major league players from them.
  20. I'm trying to set up an interview with Dan Hudson over facebook... wish me luck.
  21. Judging by pictures of you, you seem to have an unorthodox approach and a very high leg kick. How do you feel this has helped you? Do you think it makes the ball tougher for hitters to pick up? How did you develop your approach? What is your arm angle when you pitch (overhand, 3/4, sidearm, submarine)? What is your fastball like? Velocity? Movement? You have a tremendous K rate. What has been your go to pitch for most of those strikeouts?
  22. One thing hasn't been mentioned... It looks like the sideburns WILL NOT accompany Flowers to Charlotte.
  23. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) Yeah hes putting up a a very solid season, the only way he moves up is if Dayan gets moved off third base or gets promoted to AAA. I think a meh, good, better and best situation for Morel is something like this: Joe Crede , Joe Randa, Edgardo Alfonozo and Jeff Cirillo. I hope as he climbs the SB's remain part of his game and I hope in this second half he carrys over his hot hitting and finds himself in AA. the '07 draft is looking like an amazing one. I assume you mean '08, cause '07 looks very mediocre, if that.
  24. nice pun for the title.... Also, that's a kickass banner you guys put up.
  25. Morel is a very good defender, and could probably even play SS. I like him, and if he can bat .260/.330/.450 in the majors with a bit of pop, speed (is a 10-20 SB threat), very good D, and the ability not to chase every single breaking pitch down and away... yay for us! This is his scouting video from last year: http://www.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl_3_1...amp;bypass=true He looks very fluid and natural out there in the field taking grounders. At bat, he looks alright, and he looks very natural running around the bases, he kinda just glides, doesn't look forced at all.
