QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Are you aware that Toronto is apparently asking for Clay Bucholz for Scott Rolen? lol, seriously? JP is really shooting for the stars.
-
From what I've gathered, he's extremely soft in the field (never dives, pulls up on fly balls near the wall), lazy out in the field, doesn't hustle much, thinks he's the greatest of all time, etc. Him and Vernon Wells are actually very similar, and some Jays fans feel it is because of Wells influence on Rios is why he has become the player he is now. Also, there is this nice video of Rios not only ignoring a kid who wants an autograph, but he starts swearing at a heckler. I've read that on this day, Rios also went 0-5 with 5 K's. So the heckler had a pretty good point. He is loaded with potential and is a 5 tool player, but as the guy stated in the video, Rios is a bum. Most Toronto fans can't stand him (or Wells) and want him gone.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) I see he's making $6.4 million this year. What's the rest of the deal like...? God awful. From Rotoworld: The only way I'd take him is if the Blue Jays payed at least half of his remaining contract. Plus, from what I have gathered, he is a big time d-bag.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) St. Nick's? I used to go to grade school. Ahh, I still remember beating them in 6th grade JV Football, and because of that we ruined their perfect season (We went 7-0).

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) Gillies also seemed like a great person Yep. He seems like the perfect type of high energy player/person you'd want at the top of your lineup setting the table. Also, does the USA have any SS prospects better than Danny Espinosa? Beckham would have likely been the starting SS had he still been in the minors. I like Espinosa, and he's a real good defensive SS, but he can't hit worth a lick. I got another question... where did Alex Liddi come from? I've never heard of him before, and looking at his stats in the previous years, he never did much. And boom, this year he he is just hitting everything. Also, he was signed out of Italy as an undrafted free agent when he was 17. I didn't even know players in Europe could get drafted.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Flowers to Triple-A, apparently. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5565195 Great find. Either we're gonna send Lucy/Armstrong down or trade one of them (probably trade Armstrong for a bag of balls to open up that roster spot). Flowers is probably in line for a September promotion. Hopefully he rakes in Charlotte. Birmingham is looking relatively weak now, that talent pool is losing a lot of good players.

I'm not gonna lie, before today I was getting a little worried that Chris Carter would come back to burn us, but after seeing him today, I'm not all that worried anymore. Not impressed by him at bat, and he looks like a DH for sure. Big fan of Tyson Gillies though. I love players who are not only hustlers and play the game right, but he's also a good player. Future leadoff hitter for sure if he can keep his BB:K ratio right around where its at now.

Depends. If we stand pat and don't make any major moves to improve this team, we will drift off into mediocrity and wind up in 2nd or 3rd in the division with a record around .500. If we make a big move to improve this team, perhaps adding a real 3B and move Becks to 2B (I love Slayer and realize we need his bat in the lineup, but he is no 3B) or adding an ace like Halladay, we will win the division, most likely. The wildcard will be Q, but I'm not putting too much money on him providing a huge boost.

This is stupid, why would they not let them play the whole 9 innings? It's no fun if they stop after 7. I don't love Flowers' set up at bat, but I don't dislike it either. Didn't get good enough of a feel for him. Viciedo, I saw 1 pitch. Jayson Heyward is worth the hype.

If Cutler goes down for a long period of time, I'd rather see what Caleb Hanie could do rather than some washed up, over the hill vet who has no business being on the football field. Notable example: John Kitna being the backup in Dallas this upcoming year.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 06:51 AM) Not that it relates to the story, but the ending of Cooley High was filmed at Burr Oak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jENvGec4xmU You can clearly see the Alsip watertower at 7:48, and Burr Oak written on the tarp above his buddies grave several minutes before. Speaking of Movies with noticeable landmarks of Chicago/Suburbs, I pass by the Capital Cigar Shop Indian (Now it's owned by a couple eye doctors, one of which is mine!) that was in Wayne's World 1 practically every day.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Jay Bruce just went out for six weeks with a wrist injury. IF the Reds weren't looking hard to get a bat before, they sure as hell are now. I saw that this morning on the highlights, and man did that look nasty. They showed his wrist right after the injury and it was already extremely swollen up.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) According to Gameday, that ball was right on the outside corner. The pitch wasn't even close. It was a slider that went well around the plate.

Can we agree that this is the best nickname

I still have no idea how he didn't make the all-star team. Please tell me someone dropped out and he got their spot. -
BRadke inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame

He was an average pitcher, but I believe he was a fan favorite in Minnesota. He was like their Buehrle, but obviously with less results on the mound. -
This was a fun thread to read through. Good discussions in here.

I posted this in here because PHT gets more traffic than FutureSox and this way more people will notice it. The game begins at 1 PM Central and is on ESPN2. Tyler Flowers will be USA's Starting Catcher and bat 7th. Viciedo is the World Team's reserve 3B.

Isn't Kucinich the one who says he saw a UFO?

The whole point of trading for Halladay would be to solidify our rotation. If we trade Floyd for him, sure we upgrade at one spot, but we still have the same problem in the 5th spot of the rotation. No thanks. My final offer right now would Ramirez, Poreda, Shelby, and Ely for Halladay and Rios/Rolen and half of their remaining contracts.

QUOTE (Chisox88 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) 8 games left and counting in the dome. I'm glad the dome will be gone, but why in earth would they not build a retractable roof for their new stadium? Those games in April, late Septemeber, and maybe October are going to brutal. If a team builds a new stadium, it makes no sense to build to retractable roof, IMO, unless your team is located in California or Texas. I absolutely love how Milwaukee's stadium is set up (except for the LF bleachers, I think they are too far away from the playing field).

I think the first AB really set the tone and got Danks frustrated. He threw a couple of pitches in that first AB that should have been strikes, but weren't called.

Hopefully today's home plate ump isn't god awful (at least the ump last night was consistently bad for both teams).
