IIRC, Parker had trouble against the Barons early this season. Great to see Huddy out duel one of the premier pitching prospects in the game.

What does it mean when you're in the group designated as "baseball"?

anyone here ever play Swat 4 for the PC? I used to play it all the time, and since my PS3 bite the dust, I have been playing Swat 4 once again. I think Swat is such an awesome and underrated game. It stinks that this was the last one in the series. The online play is so fun. If only it had more hype.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) The Marlins are after a closer right now it seems, IIRC they were after Matt Capps a few weeks back. Here's a scenario, would you trade Jenks for say 2 spects plus Ross, and then flip those spects, plus at least 2-3 premium ones on our side for Roy Halladay? Yes. If the Marlins offered us a similar package to the one that they gave to Texas for Urbina, I'd probably do that trade in a heartbeat.

It's not like he was doing good this year. He had no control and would be forced to throw his straight fastball down the middle in hitters counts. Until he finds some control, he'll never be anything more than an over hyped SU man.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) At this point, the sox are just looking to upgrade from Anderson/ Wise. Who wants to have one of those guys starting should the sox make the playoffs? Murphy would be a better option than those two. McLouth prob. won't be available. The Braves gave up a lot to get him and he's under contract for a few yrs. Hermida's been mentioned by the Marlins as available for the last 2 yrs, prob. them wanting a big price for him. I'm not all that impressed by Hermida. I guess it depends on how much the Rangers want for Murphy. Sure, he'd be an upgrade, but over half the league would be an upgrade. I just wouldn't want to see us trade a good prospect for him.
-
Not a big fan of David Murphy. He's a decent player, but he doesn't provide much upside. One guy I've been thinking about is Nate McLouth. I wonder if the Braves will put him back on the block if they fall out of the race. I'm a big McLouth fan, and would love to get, but the Braves would probably be asking for a lot. I would love to get Teahen depending on the price. Also, I'd really try and explore a possibility of a Dotel for Hermida trade.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) Yeah they guys you've mentioned all have big contracts, or you'd have to give up some premium talent for some. Hence why I suggested Giles is another thread, albeit he is having a terrible year, but his numbers away from PETCO over the years indicate he'd be prime for a bounce back, and well he may get DFA'ed as Lugo was yesterday. As for some other names, I'd inquire about Dan Murphy from the Mets and see if you could buy low on him, although his defense in LF certainly leaves a lot to be desired, and you might need to make him an infielder again. I'm a big fan of Dan Murphy. But I don't think the Mets would be willing to sell now on him already, he's got a lot of potential with that bat.

Teams that could use Jenks: Yankees - They need a SU man and someone to take over for Mo. Plus, they're crazy, so they got no problem paying Jenks closer money. Rays - They would likely go after Jenks very hard, they desperately need a closer, and relief pitching in general. Braves - They could use a closer, but they likely don't want to spend money. Blue Jays - Same as the Braves. Marlins - Again, they would probably like to have Jenks, but they don't want to spend money. Phillies - Could be very interested in Jenks. Lidge has sucked big time this year, and when he was injured, their replacements sucked as much. They could put Jenks in the closer spot and have Lidge pitch setup. Perhaps Lidge would do better in a SU role with a little less pressure. Cubs - Only way they get him is if they give up an insanely awesome package. That's about it.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) From ESPN Insider Lol, looks like we won't be getting Halladay and the Jays aren't very serious about trading him anyway, if that report is accurate. No way is KW, or any GM, gonna trade Flowers, Viciedo, Danks2, Poreda, and one of Ricard/Hudson/Carter for 1.5 years of Halladay. The most I'd offer is Alexei, Poreda, and a couple mid-level prospects. If that doesn't get it done, oh well. I'd rather keep basically the majority of our future.

QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) I just saw a link to these video's on another message board (no not a porno board, lol) Kinda creepy. For those who didn't see or hear, it's just video taken from like a hidden camera in a girls hotel room while she is doing her hair. Yeah, I was excited to hear about it at first, but then when I read the details regarding it, that's just sad. And it is officially her as her lawyer said it was her and she will be bringing lawsuits to the perpetrator(s) and the websites that published it. I don't see any case she might have against the websites that published it, but I hope they nail the scumbag who video taped her. This is something that you want to watch because Erin Andrews is a very sexy woman, but at the same time, you don't want to watch it because it is a total invasion of privacy and some perverted stalker drilled a hole in her room and videotaped her. I'm guessing it was a stalker who found out what hotel she was staying at, got the room (or perhaps it was a closet) next to her, and drilled a hole in her wall when she wasn't around. Note to self: Next time in a hotel room working on my hair, wear clothes.
-
Not a great past two weeks for Erin Andrews. 1st, she gets hit with a line drive to the chin. Next she shows up at the ESPY's wearing that dress. Now, there's a video of her naked, or someone who looks extremely like her, floating around the internet.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) It's become a recurring theme around here to bring up the idea of resigning players who were once successful for our ballclub. He's gone and never coming back. Nor do I want him back; regardless of how he pitched in AAA. If he cant make Texas' bullpen or starting rotation (while not terrible, they're middle of the pack in both and could certaintly use him), what purpose could he serve here? If we're thinking of him even as a POSSIBLE 5th starter that's just an indictment on our minor league system. He's behind Richard, Poreda, Colon, Torres (and I haven't even seen him pitch); forgot about it. Even if none of those starters succeed, I'd just keep Poreda out to work out his problems. I was thinking more along the lines of if we make it to the playoffs, El Duque has playoff experience and has been money in the playoffs.
-
Oh well. I'd just cut him outright.
-
I'd offer him a minor league contract with and basically tell him that if pitches good in Charlotte, he'll have a shot at eventually making the rotation as the 5th man or as a long reliever.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.

I was never impressed with what I saw of Snell. If we can get him cheap, that'd be one thing, but he's still got about 7 million left on his contract, and that's not including possible buyout money in 2011. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) What would the Jays do with both Kendrick and Lind? Kendrick can play 1B, as well as maybe even 3B or LF.

I'd definitely trade Fields for Teahen... Fields is just a bad baseball player, and I doubt the Royals would do that deal. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) Sounds like a great idea! But first we need to make lots of money quickly for FutureSox. Which direction do you think we should take? Should we start an illegal gaming ring, begin committing armed robbery, open a chop shop, deal drugs, start up a porn company, or come up with some new, fresh online scams? I personally think starting a porn company would be the way to go.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) Mabee? I thought he was a high-80's guy who was finessing people to death? Who am I thinking of then? Maxwell maybe? That's what I thought as well, but I learned not to guestion JPN. He's right virtually 99.9% of the time it seems like.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) Agree on Pods. And actually, he might be able to provide some hitting tips too. I almost said base running coach instead of base stealing... Scotty has great technique when it comes to stealing bases, but he is a very questionable base runner, to say the least. I'm envisioning him starting out as a roving minor league base stealing instructer (who can give lefties with a lack of power some hitting tips as well), and potentially working his way up to 1B coach.
