  1. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 03:19 AM) They could tell you to f*** off and force you to buy a new one like most other business models will make you do. The fact that they even offer you a half price refurb after the system dies is pretty generous. You sure as hell can't buy a $150 refurb anywhere else. Are you kidding me? As a loyal sony costumer and someone who took extremely good care of his system, their making me purchase a refurbished model with only a 90 day warranty. That's pretty lousy. No way am I willing to spend 150 bucks on a refurbished system that will only be guaranteed for 90 days, that's crap. Spending another 300-500 bucks on a new system with 3 year warranty >>> 150 bucks for a refurbished model for 90 days. No way am I gonna risk having to go through the same crap in 6 months to a year.
  2. It'll be funny if Pods is one of our all stars this year.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) He's hitting .273 without a walk, he's not all that fast anymore, isn't driving the ball and is only capable of playing 1 position. If Ozzie chooses him over Wise then he's hypocritical fool but what's new? You're probably right. you were saying??? Wow, from rereading this thread, Kalapse, you really hated Pods! Your overreactions about the number change are pretty funny.
  4. I love it. DeRosa will likely play 3B for them and really help out their offense... and hopefully he'll help kill the cubs. Chris Perez was one of their better prospects/young pitchers though, so they had to pay a decent price for DeRosa, but good deal for the Cards.

    Films Thread

Just began watching American Wedding for the first time... I forget, but was Stiffler always as big of an annoying dumbass in the previous 2 American Pie movies? I remember him always being an ass, but in the other two, he was at least kind of funny and not so stupid, or at least that's what I recall.
  6. I think Pinella's gonna retire for good after this season. He just seems like he's just too old and tired to be worrying about this stuff anyway. Would love to see him on MLBN if he's gonna retire. He'd be great to have at their analyzer desk for MLB Tonight and assist in commentary for Thursday night baseball.
  7. I'll probably get a 360 for college.... but the problem is, I'm addicted to the show. The past week+ has been hell for me.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Not to mention his first homer came on a fastball inner half.... Like I said before, he'll be able to get away with for a bit while he's younger, and the fastball he did hit wasn't a particularly good one either... also, what do you mean not to mention? That hit "he powered for a single" was a jam shot off the fists that was just out of the reach of Freel.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Do you know any? I always find these blanket statements sort of funny. I hate all politicians/cub fans/insert religion or whatever. No one who has ever really known more than one or two of that group would say that, which should tell you its a silly statement. Just like not ALL ballplayers did roids, not ALL politicians are losers. I only know one, and he ain't bad... but he's still a democrat, so I naturally hate him However, otherwise, I'm done. I'll believe in a good politician when I see one. Every day you find out about another cheating/lying/stealing politicians and it's getting really old. And there are plenty more with a lot of smoke around them, and you know the old saying. Plus, you can't forget about the completely, insanely, idiotic ones. I've given up. There seems to be more corrupt politicians who want to pass their own agendas and help themselves rather than doing their jobs and serving the people!
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Because they can't. That's the point. "(Blind person gives cashier a $20) Excuse me, Cashier, what bill did I just give you? Oh, that was just a single, you still owe us $19." How are they suppossed to tell if they are buying chicken or steak? What's the point of them going shopping by themselves in the first place? I'm not saying that can't be independent, but shopping, especially for expensive items, they will be bringing someone along with them. Hell, I forgot, they can't drive and only have one hand to carry stuff with. The only time blind people need money is when they want to pay for a bus (they'd probably have a bus card) or buy some small item at a newspaper stand or something along those lines. Your whole point is that blind people have also wanted to tell the difference between 10's and 20's so they can pay the right price for what they don't know they're buying. I'm sorry, but if your blind, you shouldn't be shopping alone.
  11. Dex Carter roughed up today.
  12. Flowers with a 2 run homer. Allen 1-3 with a double and RBI.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Why not just move Alexei to 2nd, Beckham to SS, and put Fields back in at 3b? It's really a crap shoot, and you basically have to pick the two least objectionable players to play. We're pretty much forced to have one of Anderson/Wise and one of Getz/Fields/Nix in the lineup at all times.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) I respect what you are saying, but if every scout thinks this guy is a future stud and he's hit on all levels, then why the hell will he have to change his approach?? That makes little sense. I mean if he needs to change his approach, then are his past accomplishments a mirage? As he gets older and his reflexes aren't as quick, it's gonna be extremely tough for him to turn on inside fastball with his current stance, and I've seen a couple times already this season. He's had great past success, but don't forget that's with an aluminum bat vs. college pitching and in the minors vs. minor league pitching that don't have advanced scouting reports like they do in the pros (most likely). He's got talent alright and he's got a chance to be a great player, but eventually he'll have to adjust some. Maybe not right away, but in a couple of years he'll definitely have to change that.
  15. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I like the guy. I like it that he's on the Cubs, but overall, he's just a bad person and not a very good baseball player. Anyone who ends their season because they can't restrain themselves from arguing with an umpire is a big time loser in my book.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) That's one (correct) way of looking at it, but another (also correct) way of looking at is we should have won this game easily if not for the fact that this team can't execute even the simplest of plays on defense. It's a nice win, but this team still has serious issues all over the place. The offense hasn't been looking that bad recently, but on the field, we've looked like a little league team.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Ha, my brother called to tell me the same thing. The only pitch Beckham can really do a lot of damage on right now is an outer-half fastball. With his current batting style, Beckham likely won't be able to handle any good fastballs on the inner part. He's got his bat pointing towards the pitcher so much and someone his size who doesn't have a ton of strength, it's gonna be real tough for him to get his bat around fast enough. I really think if we want to expect long term success out of Beckham, he's gonna have to change his approach a bit.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Why? With 2 outs, you have to give yourself a chance to throw out Fields at home. Anyways, still have a huge smile on my face. I love that man. The bigger question is what type of horrible pitch calling was that? Fastball (and not a very good one, IMO) over the outer part of the plate? Stupid. But I'll f***ing take it!
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) You'd change your mind quickly the first time he screwed up a read into a triple, or threw to the wrong base. I'll take my chances. With our current CF's, you can't do much worse. His bat would easily make up for the lose in D. Also, last year he looked pretty good out there for 3 games, and I guess that was his main spot in Cuba as well.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Why, so he can misjudge fly balls and miss cut-off men? His problem isn't that he isn't good enough to play SS, its that he has the attention span of an ADHD hummingbird. lol... In all seriousness though, there's a lot less thinking required in CF or the OF in general then there is at SS. Hell, there's a lot less thinking required at most positions than at SS. In the OF, Alexei will have a lot more time to read and react, and you don't have to worry about the throws from the OF. In the OF, you're taught to get the ball back into the infield as fast as possible, and when Alexei guns it, it's usually on the money. The thing you have to worry about is if he'll get good reads and if he'll hit the cutoff when needed and/or throw to the right bases depending on the situations. Also, you still have to worry about communication between the other outfielders and the middle infielders. However, I'd say Ramirez would make a better CF than SS right now.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) No, it's that the blind have no means of telling one bill from another because all the sizes are the same (that's why other countries use different sizes for different denominations) I don't know, but I don't see blind people doing too much shopping by themselves.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I don't see why that's worth getting upset over especially if you don't live in RI. Plus the "they have more important things to worry about" is a non-sequitor. I just hate all politicians... I get upset at every stupid thing even the lowest politician does now.
  23. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Ryan Freel has a funny beard. He looks like a 45 year old crack addict....
  24. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) I'm not sure everyone wanted to see Beckham play out of position. Josh Fields, at this point, is probably a better hitter than Getz. Getz fields his position better. Beckham, so far, has been significantly worse than Fields at 3rd imo. Simple answer... it's a crap shoot right now. I wanna see more Nix.
  25. Hopefully he advances quickly. If he can work on his lateral movement and quickness behind the plate, he could be a very solid catching option, especially if he hits like he is capable of.
