The best Cuban pitching prospect, Aroldis Chapman, defected
BearSox replied to Cubano's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) we'll see, this is the type of player that just screams NYY, NYM and Red Sox crazy bidding war. If history is any indication I am 100% OK with the White Sox sitting out of those That's the same things people were saying about Viciedo -
I love what Contreras is doing, but it makes no sense to give him more than a 1 year contract and a cheap price. His age and injury concerns are very worrisome, and you gotta be worried about Contreras of 07 making a return. Hell, you still gotta be worried about his arm and body holding up for another 10 starts. Also, if he keeps pitching like he has, he'll likely want a 2-3 year contract in the offseason and a decent amount of money, and that's just way too much of a risk.

As someone who doesn't know s*** about Hockey, but starting to get into it (thanks to the Hawks awesome playoff run).... can someone explain to me how the line system works? Do you have your 1st line in for most of the game, or for only a certain amount of time, or what. From what I've read so far, good offseason for the Hawks.

Glenn Beck made a good point... having Franken in the senate is like having Beck in the senate.

The best Cuban pitching prospect, Aroldis Chapman, defected

I hope we sign him to make up for all of our years of doing nothing in other latin america markets. -
I just asked on facebook if he plans on signing.... lets hope he replies back, but I doubt he will. Facebook is probably the least of his concerns right now.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) Nobody beats Cubano regarding Cuban players defection news. Ha, ha, ha. I wish the Nats sign him to join forces with our number one pick in the draft. Nats are gonna have to save all their money to sign Strasburg this year and Harper next year. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) no beckham at ss? No. It'd be stupid to shift him around the field right now, especially when he's hitting well.

I think we will be wowed by Viciedo next year. He was just getting his foot wet this year, next year is when I expect to really break out. Huddy with a rough outing...

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57426 http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55213 There's more and more stories just like these.... My favorite is the cleanup steps you must take if you break one. Here's a clip on what you are recommended to do if you break the bulb (it is Glenn Beck and it's a huge joke, but that's what you're suppossed to do): I'm sorry, but I'll prefer to stick with the good old lightbulbs, even if I don't save money. This way, I avoid any dangers with mercury, and avoid the incredible task of cleaning one up if you break it... And I'd prefer it if the government didn't force me to use something I don't want to use.
-
lol, I love how we are now having those compact florescent light bulbs shoved down our throats as well. Those light bulbs cause a greater risk to the environment because of how much mercury they have inside them. Did you know if you break one of those in your homes, you'd have to spend between 3-4 thousand in clean up costs because of how dangerous a level of mercury was released.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:40 AM) He's old for the level (almost 27) and has struggled most of the year but Miguel Negron has really turned it around the past month or so. I'm not saying he is will be an answer but he was a first round pick and can play CF and lead off. Basically just someone to kinda keep an eye on. Odds are low but who knows. Wouldn't hurt to keep him around next year with an invite to ST and see if anything happens. I remember seeing him in ST in 2008, and he looked pretty good. Also, he had a great year in Birmingham last year. Got no problem with keeping him around and seeing what he can do.

If we offer to take Eric Byrnes off their hands, they would likely be a lot more willingly to trade Haren, considering how much they want to get rid of Byrnes' contract. However, considering Byrnes will be on the DL for the next 1-2 months, he won't be traded. So if we want Haren, it's gotta be a great group of prospects. Obviously a package would start off with Poreda and Allen. They really could use a 1B prospect, and Brandon Allen would be a great fit since he's MLB ready, or damn close to it. He'd probably be their best option at 1B right now. They'd probably want more pitching as well, and John Ely would be a decent pitching prospect to get. So far it's Poreda, Richard, Allen, and Ely. Good package, but we'd probably have to include one more player. If they plan on trading Felipe Lopez, maybe they'd be interested in Chris Getz. Or, they seem to like athletic, toolsy OF, so John Shelby could make sense.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:47 AM) I'm personally terrified of Pods in center. I think defense is so bad for this team already. exactly, our D has been so bad, so it's not a bad idea to try and get as much offense as possible.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) There is no reason for Congress to be involved in this s***. It's for the children. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) He's a nice bench player with some pop. We have no idea if he's any good in LF. Obviously that is something to be determined by the coaches by watching him in practice and giving him a lot of practice out there. And honeslty, can you tell me that right now he isn't the better option of Anderson and Wise in the lineup? I'd really like to see what Nix can do with consistent AB's.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) His hard base hit ground ball up the middle was on an outside pitch. You can't get him out anywhere. Right now, the best option a pitcher has against him is pounding him inside with the fastball. But that'll only work if that fastball sits in at least the mid 90's or has some real good movement.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) Yes. why? I'll take my chances with Nix in the lineup as oppossed to Anderson or Wise. First off, even when Quentin returns, Podsednik will move to CF anyway. Second off, Nix has more potential for us then both Anderson and Wise. If Nix can show he can play a decent OF, he'd be a much better option in our lineup. He is really earning a shot at getting consistent AB's.

I love me some Tyler Kuhn.
-
Is it too soon to want to see Nix in LF with Pods in CF?
-
Good find! He sounds like he has a pretty good head for the game of baseball.

I can't decide if my favorite is "my other bag is in my SUV" or the one with the picture of a guy chopping down a tree.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) So what should the organization do with him then? Hope he shows some signs of being a MLB hitter and trade him to some team desperate for a young 3B, like Oakland.

these polls are mostly a joke, IMO. From what I've read, most players don't answer honestly, and most of them make a joke out of it. IIRC, a couple years ago there was a vote on least liked baseball player, and I think they asked players on the White Sox who they voted for, and they all said Pierzynski. All of those managers are easy to dislike, but they win, and that's what counts.
