  1. Imagine if we didn't go with Poreda in 07... he would have likely fallen to the Giants at 29 and their first 3 picks would have been Bumgarner, Alderson, and Poreda. Talk about epic.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) Yes indeed. If these two guys are as good as many think, combined with that Lincecum guy, good god damn! Don't forget about Cain, if they decide to keep him. Speaking of prospects on the Giants, whatever happened to Merkin Valdez?
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Alderson is sick. And he might not even be their best pitching prospect. I believe that award goes to Bumgarner.
  4. Do you expect anything different from Louisiana?
  5. ^ Without looking at stats, probably Verlander.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) The Indians sure got a great player in return for DeRosa. The guy only has an arm. Absolutely zero control. He's still young, so it'll be a wait and see thing with Perez. However, he does have a great arm. Also, Stone said the PTBNL is a good prospect.
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) If the Sox continue to play like this, JD ain't going anywhere. I'm not gonna lie, that's a pretty big if. We've had good stretches before only to hit a brick wall.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I assume signing Dye would cost us a draft pick. Either way it's not worth trading him. The common assumption is that Dye won't get Arb because no team will want to pay him 10-12 million if he accepts.
  9. Wonder if we could get Connor Gillaspie back in a trade... Good 3B, real good hitter. His only real negative is lack of power.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Not sure I would want to trade our DH next year. He'll be a FA.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:16 AM) Funny, you can use that very picture for what this current administration is doing (you can throw in Bush and his 2nd term as well) regarding how it does nothing but add on to the already huge amount of depth we have, can possibly cause hyper-inflation by printing a trillion of more dollars out of thin air, raising taxes big time, etc.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) There's plenty of people who still call it a myth or a hoax. climate change or man-made climate change? I believe man has an effect on everything and our very existence is gonna impact the climate in some way. However, as of now, I do not buy the theory that this current climate change is mainly man's fault. There's just no definitive proof that man is the main reason for this climate change. And any bills passed regarding this issue should wait until after more research, more debates, and more ideas are put together. How can anyone doubt that this cap and trade bill is nothing but a tax that's being shoved down our throats? I got no problem with wanting to cut down pollution, find new energy resources, etc. But we gotta be smart about this. We can't have which ever party that is in charge go, "nuh uh, we're right, you're wrong, end of discussion." It's like the politicians are using playground rules to determine our futures.
  13. Would love to sign Hudson, but there's probably zero chance that the Dodgers don't sign him long term (by long term, I mean like a 3 year contract) in the offseason.
  14. This should be BA's last year with the White Sox. Either trade him for another failed prospect in the offseason, or include him in a package deal. The same could likely go for Fields. Hopefully Wise will be gone in the offseason as well.
  15. While he has been getting more hits on offense, I'd love to see him stop trying to pull everything.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) If Pods keeps this up I have to imagine he winds up at least a type B guy this offseason right? Thus it actually helps us to hold on to him? He might, but I'm not sure considering his 08 year sucked.
  17. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) The Reds are fading, and they'll be sellers before we are, so I think the window of trading JD to them is all but closed. Anyway, Bailey's value is going down, not up. Not really, they are only 2.5 games out of 1st place in the NL Central, and if they can pick up that offense, they could be a pretty tough team. They got some solid pitching, maybe could use one more guy though in the backend of the rotation. However, you put Dye in the reds lineup, and you really improve a ton. Not to mention Encarcion is slated to return within the month as well. A package of Dye and Contreras, plus some cash, would really give them a boost. Contreras can be even better in the NL and gives them some playoff experience, and Dye adds a boost to that offense and adds some protection. Their bullpen has been really solid, and there might be some interest in Dotel, but they'd likely much prefer a starter.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) LOL. I like the way you think. But the Reds wouldn't even consider giving up anything close to that much for two guys on the wrong side of 30, who they'd only have control of for 2-3 months. true, but getting Frazier and Heisey would be sexy.
  19. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) the ultimate coop can fix him could be mark prior. how sweet would it be if he could recapture something close to his old form on the south side of chicago. its probably not likely but if we can get him as another one of those low risk contracts if might be worth it I got no problem bringing in guys like Prior and Cabrera for Charlotte. The downside is they suck and make Charlotte bad. The upside is, who knows what the f*** might happen, and Prior would help out attendance in Charlotte considering he's a pretty big name.
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) The DBacks seem to be in unloading mode. If you really want to secure that 2010 rotation and beyond, go balls out and make Byrnes a deal he can't refuse for Haren. If we offer to take on Eric Byrnes contract, they might be a lot more willing to deal Haren...
  21. Princess Dye, that is a very good point about Thome. The Rangers could be a team interested considering the sucky-ness of their two best power left handed hitters, Blalock and Davis. Plus, Jones ain't doing all that hot either anymore. Thome would really help out that middle of the order with his OBP. However, he probably wouldn't want to go to a fringe competitor like Texas and rather stay with the Sox. Yankees would make sense if Matsui gets injured for a long period of time, but that's only if Matsui gets injured within a month. With Ortiz heating up, the Red Sox don't make much sense either. And even if he still was sucking, they'd more than likely go after someone like Fox from the cubs. Maybe the Angels, but they aren't gonna platoon Thome with Vlad, and they can't put Vlad in LF because of how good Rivera has been for them. Rays don't make sense. Maybe the Blue Jays, but it doesn't seem like a move they'd make or a team Thome would want to go to. I'd prefer not to see him traded within the central. Odds of trading Thome are extremely low.
  22. If a team offered us a great deal for Pods, fine, but I doubt that's gonna happen, so there really is no point in trading him. And Thome ain't going anywhere either due to the fact he can play only DH and has his NTC, and he prefers to stay in Chicago or back to Cleveland. If we went into full sell mode, we're looking at Dye for sure being on the block. His name has been involved in trade talks dating back to 07, so it'd come to no surprise if he does wind up getting traded.
  23. Check out this boxscore: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb The losing team lost by 15 runs..... and they scored 18!!!!
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) And what do you suppose we will be giving up to get him? I would guess it would take something like Fields, Poreda, and Jordan Danks.... Considering there is absolutely no way he will be back with the A's after this year and the A's suck right now, it's obvious they want to get something for him at the deadline, but that something has to be at least as attractive as 2 top 50 picks are. However, the A's are not gonna get as much as they gave up for him because Holliday could very likely just be a 2-3 month rental player for whichever team gets him, and Holliday is having, while it's solid, a down year in Oakland. They need a 3B, and you can never have too much pitching. Fields or Gilmore would definitely be a part of it. However, they are stacked at young pitching right now. So while most teams might be really interested in Poreda, and to a lesser extent Richard, the A's might prefer Hudson since they have more time to develop him. Danks is in the same category as Viciedo, Flowers, and Beckham. There isn't a way we trade him considering we want John as happy as possible for a contract extension, and Danks is our CF'er of the future. I'm not sure what the required package would be, but I'd imagine it'd be something like Fields (his improved walk rate is probably intriguing to Beane), Poreda, and probably a lower level, high upside guy.
  25. I'm calling it now... the White Sox will trade for Matt Holliday. This will be because we are still teetering on the edge of contenders in July, Carlos Quentin won't be ready this year, and our s***ty play in CF. We will move Pods to CF, and have a lineup of: 1. Pods, CF 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Holliday, LF 4. Dye, RF 5. Thome, DH 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Beckham, 3B 9. Getz/Nix, 2B Part of the reasoning will also be that Holliday can also help us not only now, but in the future, either by re-signing him or getting 2 draft picks out of him.
