  1. McCain was royally screwed in the 2000 race by Bush's push poll. But McCain stayed reasonably loyal to the party and I think the party will begin to believe they "owe" him a shot.
  2. Baseball needs an independent commissioner, just like the other sports.
  3. If you were being tortured, wouldn't you make up anything to make it stop? While the reasons are compelling, the whole save a million lives kind of thing, but bottom line, the information at best gives a false sense of accuracy to someone's already formed idea.
  4. I believe he is the best of the GOP bunch.
  5. Welcome to the slippery slope. In 3,000 years it will include balls and strikes
  6. She really needs to just go away. Release the records.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) Why don't you go for the ones that know what they want? Because those are the ones that know they don't want him
  8. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) To us Yanks it's all the same. As long as you're getting your protein, you don't miss meat. Except bacon. Oh, how I miss bacon. pig belly is yummy.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) I'd bet that none of those three (Bonds, Palmeiro, McGuire) get in. Bonds is the most likely. But none will make it, IMO. Bonds will, no doubt in my mind. I also think it is likely the voters will elect one or two of the other guys and force this mess back into baseball's lap, where it belongs. Remember who votes on the Hall.
  10. The hall is going to have to somehow recognize the "steroid era". When (I agree with Steff) these guys start entering the Hall, there will be an outcry and baseball will look foolish (again) if they stand there like nothing is wrong.
  11. That seems more like ranchero beans than a chili. I'm slowly eliminating meat from my diet. I've dropped it from almost all my breakfasts and about half my lunches. Dinner is still an issue, but getting better.
  12. Texans know how to pull in the cash. [/size] We may never know, but I'm guessing Clinton was a better Presidential fundraiser than Bush. But that's just my guess.
  13. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) Wrong. I make some awesome herbivore chili. And to get that protein? A side of quinoa. y'all ain't from around here. That must be that Yankee cityfied, sissyfied, chili. Recipe?
  14. Amateurs vs. Pros ranked in most to least likely to score against Basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and football.
  15. That entire era will have an * Bonds knew what was going on. He had lifted before and knew how his body reacted. He also is smart enough to know that adding flaxseed oil and an arthritis cream would not produce those results. Those are available over the counter, and this cream was clearly not over the counter stuff. He had a responsibility to know what he was using. That comes with the job. He is an adult and should be treated like one. All these guys had a symbiotic relationship with MLB. They used each other and made hundreds of millions of dollars in the process. The owner of the ball is adding an asterisks and the hall has a choice. It seems that there has been a lot of media coverage and fan interest in steroids in baseball. Some fans will make excuses and believe Bonds was an unwitting innocent victim. You cannot wake someone who is pretending to be asleep. That asterisks in a way represents all the juicers in baseball. Is it unfair that Bonds is the poster boy for steroids? It's the good with the bad. Perhaps we feel some sympathy for the guy who was barely clinging to a MLB career and used, versus All-Stars like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Giambi, and Palmero. Bonds climbed to the top, his accomplishments placed him on that pedestal for all the world to cheer and jeer.

People who after the time change say "it is 8 o'clock, but it's really nine"
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Yeah, it's about time for chili and soup. I had some s*** on a shingle for dinner tonight. Yum. On biscuits or toast? That does sound good. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) I had deer meat chili a few weeks ago, it was delicious Game is great in chili. But it does have to be red meat. No chicken, pork, or tofu. (sorry Soxy) You can make chili-like dishes with those proteins but do not call it chili. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) Tex I'll PM you my address, I expect the bowl to still be hot when it gets here. TIA. y'all have to come to Texas. The surfing is just getting really good.
  18. The two first families of American politics are the Bushs and Clintons. Mainstream politicos default to those candidates. We saw that eight years ago.
  19. Another factor, which has not been addressed is the nature of the HoF. Is it a museum with a responsibility to be historically accurate and chronicle the game of baseball, or is it an entertainment and marketing venue for MLB? If the role is to chronicle the history of the game, ignoring the controversy of Bond's record is intellectually dishonest. Iy ignores the greatest controversy of the past ten years, something that overshadows the game. There was congressional hearings. If the HoF is just some advertisement for MLB, then they can rewrite history and make the game look as happy as possible.
  20. Hmmm, chocolate in the chili. I don't recall if I've ever had that, but it sounds good. Almost like a mole sauce??
  21. Where you points fall apart is this: Bonds was is a skilled athlete. He spent his life as an athlete. From a young age he had been working out and has a greater than average understanding if his body and how it responds to workouts. Most people would find it hard to believe he did not noticed the change while taking these substances. Same thing if I gave you what I said was a regular cigarette and you got high. If I told you this was a regular cigarette and every time you smoked it you got high, and you continued to keep smoking them, do you think anyone will believe you were duped? Bonds knew, as do you and I, that those gains are unreasonable from flaxseed oil. It is just silly to pretend otherwise. Bonds is getting scrutiny in line with what he accomplished while using the substance. Why is there not going to be lots of balls with asterisks on display? Because only Bonds has broken such a record. People break the law all the time, but we continue to create laws, continue to enforce them. Some people can rationalize any behavior based on every body else does it. In this case, not everyone does it. There are honest players in baseball. And if we value anything like sportsmanship and fair play, we have to discount the accomplishments of cheaters. You may call that a high horse. I believe if that looks like a high horse, your eyes are too low.
  22. QUOTE(False Alarm @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) wasn't there a chili thread last year where you wrote a screed against beans in chili? am i thinking of the wrong poster? Great memory False Alarm. I actually said Just Say No. So I guess now it's Just Say Yo! I go back and forth. Beans in chili are much less popular down here than up north.
  23. The person that bought the ball decided, after accepting internet voting, to do that. Not MLB. Since everyone cheats, why is Bonds so upset about this? He should be proud that unlike Perry, he did not get "caught". Hail Barry, the best cheater in baseball. Has one of the greatest records and never was caught. Something to be proud of and for every athlete to look up to and emulate.
  24. He is being singled out because he made a statement that he would not be in the hall if they displayed the ball. So far he is the only player who has made a statement like that.

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) I've grown to really dislike driving, so its hard for me to pick just one pet peeve among the myriad of stupid things people do while driving. Its like everyone's IQ drops 30 points upon turning the ignition (including, nowadays, myself). But if I had to pick just one... blocking an intersection. If you can't make it across, don't enter the intersection. Its the ultimate act of selfishness - I'll just go right here and block the entire flow of traffic from the other direction, because I am more important than any of you. Ugh. I used to like driving. Everything is in walking distance, if you have enough time Another social norm thing that use to be a pet peeve. People leaving shopping carts behind other people's cars. Turns out the whole area does this and it works faster for the cart picker uppers. They can walk straight down the row instead of squeezing between cars. It finally made sense, but at first it drove me nuts to come out of a store and find a cart left right behind my car.
