GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Asked about a departure of a high level political strategist in his campaign, Fred Thompson referred reporters to talk to his campaign. Ummm, aren't you the face of the campaign? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071024/ap_on_...on_ap_interview I accept his answer on that one. I don't expect him to know state by state. Maybe if the person was one of his direct reports, but I think Freddy is right on this one.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) That's exactly what I am talking about. Making this a partisan issue has the potential to be devastating. If states independently want to do things because of shortages, for example, of nurses or cops or teachers, then I might be OK with that, under certain circumstances. I just think the Feds saying which degrees are important "to society" is dangerous. They already forgive some student loans if you teach in certain areas that are crippled by shortages of teachers. This sounds like a natural continuance of those programs. As long as it doesn't result in more lawyers or accountants I kid, because I care * *Used by permission of FlaSoxxJim

How many bones have you broken?
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Left leg in 3 places, 3 bones in my left foot, 3 bones in my right foot, every finger once, 2 of them twice, one thumb and my nose. The left foot bones were all broken at the same time, the right ones were broken at the same time, but the fingers were mostly one at a time for various reason. Sports related injuries, fights, drunken escapades, etc. Thankfully those were a long time ago, the most recent being the right foot in 2000. Now I just tear things, like the rotator cuff and ACL. That explains the brain injury that resulted in the republican point of view . . . I kid, because I care* *Used by permission of FlaSoxxJim All rights reserved

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Oh boy. Here we go. For those of you so in favor of this, but against the other post I just read about Mitt Romney, tell me exactly what the difference is. Who has the right to say which drug is better then another one? Who is going to the the police on which drug benefits society more? I'll start with those questions. I will only say that I do realize there's a problem, but I certainly don't want my government telling me which drugs are more "beneficial" then another one. Some of these are easy, for example, not getting the disease versus treating the symptoms of the disease. Too bad you live in a country with such a stupid government. You may wish to move by me. We have actual thinking people that work in our government.

Nice on the surface. But how many people are working in their degree field five, ten, twenty years after graduation?

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) then lets call it a charity and not a loan. as someone who "loans" money all day long to businesses, the lender isn't supposed to lose $ on each and every deal. why not just cancel out the loan all together, figure out how much $ kiva and paypal would be taking from me and just give it to the individual with no strings attached? These are obviously sub sub prime loans in third world countries without any due diligence. The amounts be loaned are typically smaller than a VISA card. What I believe makes this charity different is the attempt at repayment. It's a loan that may turn into charity. So using your suggestion, give, and if it comes back, give it to someone else. And so forth.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) You just have to wonder how many pockets are lined in Congress with health care money from lobbyists. If you say all of them, I suspect you'll be right waaaaay more times than wrong.

A Special Wish
I would like to be the first to wish y'all a very Merry Christmas , A Happy New Year, may your Festival of Lights be festive, and of course a cathartic airing of the grievances for those that celebrate Festivus. Can you believe all the Christmas stuff already on sale?

Well, I've never....
QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) I've never had pineapple on a pizza. The pineapple must be near canadian bacon for it to work. I'm a pizza purist but will admit to enjoying a Rosati's pineapple and bacon.

Romney is going to have trouble tapping those funds also. I'm guessing they will be long hold outs. This may help McCain who wasn't the religious right's choice in 2000

Perhaps there is some value in at least having all the factors in a normal business loan present. But much like larger debt to third world countries, just getting the principle back is a victory of sorts. I've seen a lot of those grocery stores that seem to be the popular business loan. I would be interested next time I am in Laredo to try and find the businesses that are being touted.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) I don't know about the above post, but I'll be seeing Pat Greene and Willie Nelson Saturday night. Pat Green Awesome show. You will have a great time. Is Willie doing a full set or just dropping in for a cameo and the duet they did on Pat Green's Three Days CD?

At the minimum, I'd love to see an Emmett Smith like trade and the end of his career. Silly perhaps.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) I wish Frank would hang them up at the end of the year because it would be great for him to finish up with such amazing statistics. However, Frank has consistently had money problems over the past couple years and I would be stunned if he didn't stick around solely for the paycheck. I was thinking the same thing. I always wondered how much Frank loved the game. Not a criticism, not everyone is smiling like Mark, but sometimes his abilities seemed like a burden to him. If he sticks around a few seasons more, I hope he's enjoying the game.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Is it research methods or tests and measures? Research methods is the suck. research methods a few semesters ago. One of my all-time favorite classes. I was everyone's pain in the ass. I could find confounding in any proposal. Surprised? I also was popular for homework help. I loved the challenge of constructing experiments.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) here's where i'm confused. 1) are these loans made at a 0% rate? 2) what if someone doesn't pay back? 3) does kiva charge a fee? 4) if you are using paypal, don't you get dinged with paypal fees each way/time money is exchanged? 1.) Seems to be 2.) You lose your investment 3.) They ask for a donation. I donated the $2.50 they asked for after I loaned the $25. I'm not certain if they ask for 10% or a flat fee. 4.) Depends on your paypal account. I did not pay a fee to paypal. Usually isn't it the person receiving the money that pays the fee?

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) I think that, when taught well, students often like their stats teacher. Research methods, now, people never like their teacher for that. Wrong. He's one of my favorite and I have him this semester for Theories of Learning and will probably take him again for Psy and Law. - Catch-All Anything Thread
