  1. If only there were more warnings about meeting in person someone you met on the internet
  2. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) you really think thats all he did? well, he sure fooled everyone i guess \ I guess the Firemen of NY would also have an opinion, perhaps as relevant as Time Magazine. besides, these prestigious awards are just given out to make Bush look bad.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Tell me about it. IMNSHO Rudy is the biggest sleaze ball, slime bucket that has declared and Hillary isn't exactly oozing integrity.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) And ultimately, this is why she will win - and so will Guiliani. They are the only two people people have heard of. God help us all.

  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Scary rumor I just heard that ARod to the Tigers might be the most likely situation of all. Boras and Leyland are very close friends. Crap. Forgot about them. Or wait a minute. Could this be a story planted by Boras to get the Sox involved in the bidding? I love Boras for this.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) It was bottled up for 5 days... I thought it was bottled up for 25 years, virgin boy
  9. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) No it won't. It will be because they finally (who ever it is) will do SOMETHING instead of just "waiting" for better results. That's the problem with the current ass-monkey in the White House. History will prove him right on the "war on terror" in the long run, but he has totally mismanaged the process. Don't worry, as soon as good news comes out with a Dem in the White House, both parties will be lining up at the press trucks whoring it up.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) I am glad you agree with me then, that is unless you are satisfied with the results coming out of Congress... I haven't been in years.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) Its not about GOP or Dem. Its about getting paid 5 times what the middle worker in getting paid in the US today, and then crying about being away from your family and working too many hours. Last I checked, Washington DC was where our governence happens, so I am not quite sure why the are surprised that they have to go there to work, otherwise why would they be complaining about something they knew full well of when they decided to run for office? Heck I am guessing most people who are making $150k + a year work a little more than 40 hours a week in the first place, so I don't get why five full days of work is such a difficult standard to uphold. It almost makes me wonder if a reason we have had such substandard governence is because our elected officials are content in working just a few days a week while jetting home for the weekend our on dimes. I see them more like outside sales reps. I guess where I am not clear is why they can not work, and if this gets them back in their Districts more, why is that a bad thing? I know we have not seen Congressman Hinojosa as much as we use to. It use to be an issue how much time these guys spend in their districts, now it has become how much time they spend away? I guess it makes sense. But let's be careful what we wish for. Do we want more government? Do we want them to pass more laws? What is it that isn't getting done and how will another day in Washington solve that rather than being back in their districts?
  12. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I don't believe there is any chance that he ends up with the Yankees. I say it's LA, LAA or Red Sox. I think there is always a chance with the Yankees. He was thisclose to being a Red Sox last time, I think this WS victory releives any pressure from the fans to sign him, dropping the Red Sox down, so I'd guess he'll be playing on or around LA or Chicago.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) The truth of the matter is unless a Democrat is in the White House, they CANNOT show that the war can be "won" unless THEY (the Democrats) do it, because otherwise they lose face on everything they have told us in the last two years. Then, they can basque in all the glory of the "military victory" and show they're "tough" in protecting us from all that ails us. It's pretty clever, actually to say what they are and then turn around and "fix things" when they get in (more) power. And if a Dem is in the White House and the war goes well it will be because of the stuff that Bush did, and if it goes poorly, it will be the Dem's fault and it wouldn't have happened if a Rep was elected.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) The same Democrats made a big deal back in January or December about how they weren't going to be a do-nothing Congress, and one of the things they had to show that they meant business was that they were going to hold a 5 day work week. It's actually probably helped; this Congress has already held nearly 2x as many votes as the Congress did last year. But if you're going to try to get positive press by doing the right thing in one case, you're going to get exactly the same negative press when you turn your back on that promise. results are what matters. If they can do that during a Saturday morning BBQ, I'm happy. Working 100 hour weeks doesn't mean a thing if the results are not there. So I wasn't impressed when they announced the new longer hours and I'm not too upset when they announced new shorter hours. Parkinson's Law and the Peter Principle all come into play here.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) I agree, that is awfully frustrating to see. If we have turned being a house rep into a full time, job, that is fine - so I expect them to work their butts off for it. They should be honored to have such a privileged position. This reminds me a lot of how a feel about overpaid professional athletes who don't work hard at it - its insulting to those of us who pay their salaries. I'm not certain exactly what that means. If that means they are free to work in their offices, return to their districts, etc. Isn't that a good thing? I guess it is up to the individual official on how they use the Fridays. So if the GOP wants to make a point, let's see them using that day productively. I don't read anything there that would prevent them from certain activities except voting.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) Las Vegas has over 1 million people there now. Good point.

  20. I wish I had brought my camera. Basically as we traveled closer to the shore we noticed many smaller objects floating in the water. When we got closer, we noticed it was as if someone had made little salt islands, slightly larger (1/2" maybe) than the birds, and floated them out there. Some strange bird religious ritual perhaps The lake and surrounding area is owned by all us citizens through the US Fish and Wildlife Service. I am going to call out to their service unit at Santa Ana this morning and see if one of their staff members can shed some light on the area.
  21. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) Go ahead, rant if it makes you feel better. Do you think I LIKE contractors running off with untold $$? Do you think that that would only happen if a Republican was in the WHite House? if yuor answer is yes to either one of those, you are a bigger ass than I sometimes think you are. How about comnig up with a plan to end the war, instead of just 'leaving'? Oh wait, that would make it seem like the eeevil Republicans did something good if we actually won somethng, so we can't have that. So it doesn't matter if it's a Dem or a Rep in the White House? That we can't blame s*** on their party affiliation?
  22. Or anyone else with a little salt lake knowledge. I had never visited a salt lake before and took a beautiful fall day as an excuse to hike to La Sal del Ray. What an amazing site. What puzzled us, and I can't find information on it, was why there were so many dead birds floating on what appeared to be little salt islands. I understand the salinity would make them very bouyant, I assume that somehow this also causes the salt to form underneath and along their sides? We saw where a pipeline (about 2") is used to pump the water into holding ponds, we also saw what looked to be 24" concrete pipes randomly scattered over the site, I assumed they are relics of old projects.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) Tex, I agree with you that this election period is too damn long. 3 or 4 months for the primaries, then another few for the general. Why do we need more? To spend money, which is a boom to a few industries. News like this is silly. Some one that already thinks negativly about Edwards will believe this is the most important fact in the world to prove their opinion.

I really wish the election cycle was so short that stuff like this and Thompson not knowing some B level person quit, would not be news. When it drags on for a couple years, little stuff like this actually has time to be news.
