  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) Perhaps a Paul/Colbert ticket? Interesting.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) I have no problem with that assessment of ELF. Like I said, it was just an example... And with a little time we kind find all sorts of examples. The firtst example I could think of was the Pro-Lifers that kill in the name of saving lives.
  3. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) Chuck Berry They had a hi-fi phono, boy, did they let it blast Seven hundred little records, all rock, rhythm and jazz But when the sun went down, the rapid tempo of the music fell "C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell Next topic: old people When I think of old people I think of Florida Modest Mouse Couldn't quite seem to escape myself Far enough, far enough Far from Florida We were all drowning in cruise control Far enough, far enough Wasn't far enough Topic: Old People II
  4. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) As much as I hate the Red Sox and especially their fandom, it's not to the same level of contempt that I have for the Yankees and the Flubs and their stupid fans. I have tried to pull for the Rockies but it just doesn't work. It's not real. I'm American League through and through and deep down, I'm glad to see the American League dominate. I think the league allegiance thing will die with our generation. Interleague play, the internet, satellite TV, mlb-TV, all kind of chip away at those old allegiances.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Ann Coulter of the left... except a little less hate, and a little more valley-girl grammar. Neither are worth our time or concern. Never heard of her, but from that sample, I'd concur.
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) You will NOT get me to go down the Dark Path of Captain & Tennille Muskrat Ramble - traditional ragtime tune, probably done most famously by Dean Martin: They're gonna play that Muskrat Ramble tune The way you never ever heard it played Get ready for the big parade Next topic: LP records LP records?? what are those
  7. I really get annoyed when presumably healthy people use the handicap parking permits. Found a site that does something about it. http://www.handicappedfraud.org/ I guess they have been all over the news lately.
  8. OMG. Wait until the fire is out and the investigation begins to speculate how and why.

    FireStorm 2007

I remember with Katrina some people criticized people for valuing animal lives ahead of humans. The animals took up space in rescue vehicles, the sanitation issues at shelters, rescue workers wind up dealing with the animals during the rescue, etc. I think it depends on where you are evacuating to, each situation is different. Sad when people have to make choices like that. I'd never want to leave a pet behind.
  10. Paul Anka Havin' my baby What a lovely way of sayin' How much you love me Next topic: Muskrats
  11. (mixing threads) When I read stuff like this, I think, that's corruption. That is why I find it hard to call our government corrupt.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) It's corrupt in different ways. People are paying bribes all the time. Tell me why it is you have to make a $1000 campaign contribution as a business (read: PAC) to get access to the government officials? Think about it. You pay to gain the proper access. It's not blatent corruption, but it is corrupt none the less. Look around the globe. Look at Mexico ten years ago. The UN. To call a government corrupt, IMHO, illegal transactions would be the norm, not the exception. People would not be convicted, let alone, charged for bribery, etc. The public would somewhat accept the officials as dishonest. You start walking the halls from congress to your local school board and pass out bribes. I'll bet a tiny percentage would accept them. It is not as clean as anyone would like, but it falls way short of what I would call corrupt.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) The government's not stupid. It's corrupt. There's a difference. No sir. There may be a few corrupt individuals in our government, the government as a whole, is not corrupt. When was the last time you paid a bribe to get a driver's license? Building permit? When was the last time a cop shook you down? Sorry Kap, I have to call a crap on that one.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Asked about a departure of a high level political strategist in his campaign, Fred Thompson referred reporters to talk to his campaign. Ummm, aren't you the face of the campaign? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071024/ap_on_...on_ap_interview I accept his answer on that one. I don't expect him to know state by state. Maybe if the person was one of his direct reports, but I think Freddy is right on this one.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) That's exactly what I am talking about. Making this a partisan issue has the potential to be devastating. If states independently want to do things because of shortages, for example, of nurses or cops or teachers, then I might be OK with that, under certain circumstances. I just think the Feds saying which degrees are important "to society" is dangerous. They already forgive some student loans if you teach in certain areas that are crippled by shortages of teachers. This sounds like a natural continuance of those programs. As long as it doesn't result in more lawyers or accountants I kid, because I care™ * *Used by permission of FlaSoxxJim
  16. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Left leg in 3 places, 3 bones in my left foot, 3 bones in my right foot, every finger once, 2 of them twice, one thumb and my nose. The left foot bones were all broken at the same time, the right ones were broken at the same time, but the fingers were mostly one at a time for various reason. Sports related injuries, fights, drunken escapades, etc. Thankfully those were a long time ago, the most recent being the right foot in 2000. Now I just tear things, like the rotator cuff and ACL. That explains the brain injury that resulted in the republican point of view . . . I kid, because I care™* *Used by permission of FlaSoxxJim All rights reserved
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Oh boy. Here we go. For those of you so in favor of this, but against the other post I just read about Mitt Romney, tell me exactly what the difference is. Who has the right to say which drug is better then another one? Who is going to the the police on which drug benefits society more? I'll start with those questions. I will only say that I do realize there's a problem, but I certainly don't want my government telling me which drugs are more "beneficial" then another one. Some of these are easy, for example, not getting the disease versus treating the symptoms of the disease. Too bad you live in a country with such a stupid government. You may wish to move by me. We have actual thinking people that work in our government.
  18. Nice on the surface. But how many people are working in their degree field five, ten, twenty years after graduation?

    Kiva.org

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) then lets call it a charity and not a loan. as someone who "loans" money all day long to businesses, the lender isn't supposed to lose $ on each and every deal. why not just cancel out the loan all together, figure out how much $ kiva and paypal would be taking from me and just give it to the individual with no strings attached? These are obviously sub sub prime loans in third world countries without any due diligence. The amounts be loaned are typically smaller than a VISA card. What I believe makes this charity different is the attempt at repayment. It's a loan that may turn into charity. So using your suggestion, give, and if it comes back, give it to someone else. And so forth.
  20. Hey, we talkin' about the bones I had to bust for disagreein' widt my boss?
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) You just have to wonder how many pockets are lined in Congress with health care money from lobbyists. If you say all of them, I suspect you'll be right waaaaay more times than wrong.
  22. I was a big Canon fan for a while, but bought an HP All-In-One a couple years ago and now that is all I buy.

    A Special Wish

I would like to be the first to wish y'all a very Merry Christmas , A Happy New Year, may your Festival of Lights be festive, and of course a cathartic airing of the grievances for those that celebrate Festivus. Can you believe all the Christmas stuff already on sale?
