The closer the power is to the people, the better the accountability.

Hillary's spouse arguably has the best political credentials of any of the candidate spouses. I've been reading a bit about Cindy McCain and am very impressed Cindy McCain's Volunteer Efforts / About Cindy McCain / Informing You / Home I did not start this thread to tout Cindy as the end all in spouses, I do not know much of anything about the other spouses, but Cindy does seem genuine.

So who has played their last game in a Sox uni?

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Astros drew over 3 million people for the second year in a row. Kind of funny that they didn't get up over 3 million in 2005 when, well, you know. They lost. And in the end, isn't profit what we really care about? We demand that the team does not over pay for a player, no matter their abilities. We'd love A-Rod at $10,000,000, hate him at $25,000,000, because that would lower the team's profit. $$ -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) any justice, liberal or conservative, is trying to put their ideology into the court and onto their decisions. anyone claiming otherwise is full of sh*t. How else would they decide? I disagree with "ideology", I think "opinion" rooted in their ideology, would be more accurate. And that's why we have more than one Justice, and why I like a few from the range of ideologies. And by nature, ideologies are not right or wrong, they are just differences.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Eep. There is a few names on there you really don't want to be endorsing you. I was wondering if any "thanks but no thanks" happen with anyone. I imagine yes.

Among many moments I was , I saw this. Great sound byte and true. All the more reason to regain flexibility in our military by getting out of Iraq sooner, rather than later.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) My only distinction would be that the Court in those types of cases only approve (and also disapprove) of some of what he and Congress have done. They look at the Constitution and ask "does this fit with their enumerated powers." The power of the Executive and of Congress to act in times of war is pretty broad. That's different than the past decisions dealing with rights (affirmative action cases, religious freedom cases, homosexual rights cases, state power v federal powers cases, etc) that are sweeping opinions mainly arguing about public policy and not the law and the Constitution. I have to agree with your comments about the SCOTUS, especially because it is basically the same rational I have for the ACLU, especially when I disagree with the scum they are representing before the court. But the current political climate is to toss personal freedoms aside. Thankfully we have the SCOTUS and groups like the ACLU to fight that. Despite the difficult start, I think Thomas has done well on the Court. I think he was guilty of harassment, but if we can elect someone like that President, we certainly can tolerate that on the bench. Which is very sad.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) Not with that contract he has. Houston can keep him at $16+ for 5 more years. Speaking of which, I wonder how well the team did in profits, which is what makes us all happy -
Great article. One thing I particularly agreed with is his points regarding the public demanding certain behavior because he's black. I disagreed with vilifying Craig for voting against the rest of the homosexual community and whenever it comes up with anyone else who is a certain race, religions, etc. It would seem to me there would be the same diversity of opinion among any group of people. I disagree that race hasn't helped him. It does help being a Republican in black skin. But if those ideals are his true ideals, and I believe they are, then we really can't fault him for the benefits he received. In fact it would be worse if he abandoned his beliefs in an attempt to match what some AA would demand. Interesting that b**** mentioned using the Constitution for tp. I guess we'd disagree what that means. With Bush's use of the Homeland Security bills, I think that's exactly what the GOP is doing.

I'd be happy if all I had was George Strait's catalog, I thought I'd share that. How about them cowgirls?

I believe this is a one year fluke and feel confident with a minimal of changes. I think the starting rotation could be one of the top 4 or 5 in the AL next year and the pen could be top three or four. That alone should be enough for a play off spot. While Garland gets all the attention, I'd rather see Jose moved, if a starter gets moved.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) This is universally true - they all have some spin answer instead of just straight up saying "I don't know, I'll research it and get back to you". Thompson just hasn't learned that he has to have some generic bulls*** answer for everything, even if he doesn't know a thing about it. He will though, give him time. As I have posted before, I don't expect a candidate to know everything about every issue. (Cuban health care comes to mind) I also give a lot of slack for mis speaks and mis quotes. It's a long campaign for everyone, candidates and reporters. So I really appreciate him saying I don't know. But he will have to get up to speed. I think it would be a sad day if someone gets elected by not answering. I disagree it's generic bulls*** answers that the other candidates give. I believe it can be repeated from memory and they do not even think anymore. All the questions about this topic get the same response. For example, you could ask any question about MLB and the response will be, How about them Cubs! After the Red Sox, and White Sox have won, isn't it exciting the Cubs are in the race? The question could have been about a player, team, or stadium and the response is the same. But even with this, it says something about what the candidate believes that you do not get with a "I don't know". The more I've read about him, the more impressed I've become. He is a skilled campaigner and a good speaker, so I suspect he's going to make some strides here very shortly. And don't worry SS, I won't waste my time on your posts either.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) I sold ads for a living. My bet is the sales guy just wanted to make the deal happen. Yep. And I'll bet ads this size don't drop in his lap everyday. It isn't like newspaper ads are a growing commodity. It's about the last media sales I'd want to be in.

With so many saves, which also means so many close games, we were really close to an even s hittier season. In fact it could have been craptastic if we didn't have a closer.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) The Twins will be that much better just by getting rid of that dead weight joke Tori "Mr. Overrated who doesn't want to win" Hunter. He's such a loser and whatever team signs him will be disappointed. IMO if the Sox we're to sign him i'd have to boycott because they would be ensuring to be fighting the royals for the cellar for at least the length of his contract. Him and Johan ought to go to the same place since their both overrated and will never get a ring. Hunter because he doesn't want it enough (See Choking it in the playoffs every year on purpose because he's a loser) and Johan will never be on a good enough team. HUNTER IS A b**** AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUIN THIS TEAM! I'D RATHER HAVE OWENS, BA, and Sweeney then one second of Hunter the loser b****! Awesome. Wrong on so many levels, but awesome.

sad isn't it QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) *sigh* 4 games into the season and we are talking draft. One year removed from the Superbowl

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) Like what, Las Cruces, New Mexico? East Texas is really pretty too, especially the Piney Woods area. I am thinking of a residential area up in the hills that I really liked. The area right on the border is very nasty, but I stayed with a friend who owned a nice home in a very nice area. He worked for a maquilla across the border. I also did some driving towards New Mexico and it was very nice. But you are right, New Mexico is much nicer in that corner of the world.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) The interesting thing is - if he doesn't know about an issue, he is straight as an arrow: I don't know about that particular issue, I will get back to you. There's no political stupid s*** answer like you get with every other candidate. I guess candor has lost all its meaning, or to say it another way, he's just ignorant and stupid. This wouldn't happen if he had (D) after his name, you can count on that. The liberal media covers for all those candidates.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Where would we be without our daily Fred Thompson update... He must really scare people because they are really after him right out of the gates. The liberal media has already picked our next President and perhaps Freddy is the guy that could wreck their plans. Or perhaps this is their plan, discredit him early to thrown everyone off, then get him elected, after all he did work in their industry. My head spins trying to figure out their evil plans.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Well you know, since he's really our president (because Bush isn't), he's "owed" the office. Of course we can always hope for Jeb to continue the BFD* *Bush Family Dynasty
