  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Yes to 15 stitches above the eye. Better yet, yes to an emergency room that got me in and out in 45 minutes (talk about amazing). The worse part was our freaking team lost the game too so I took the elbow to the head in vein and we got eliminated from the playoffs with the loss. Yes to some pain killers?
  2. I hope that is true. For some reason I've been positrive about Mark staying with the Sox.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) Who even gives a f*** anymore? It's become so played out, every time a player does something positive offensively you get to hear about how he's probably on some sort of performance enhancing drug. I'm just so f***ing sick of the lameass speculation about EVERYONE. What's the point anymore? If there were two leagues, the performance enhancing league where anything goes and the all-natural organic league, which league would draw better? 550 foot monster homeruns and 100 mph pitches or Small ball and knuckleballers?
  4. Sadly we could go one for one on these. I doubt this family would agree that a gun was good protection for the, Child Killed in Accidental Shooting A five-year-old boy who was shot by his 8-year-old brother Friday died several hours later at Carolinas Medical Center. The accidental shooting happened just before 8 a.m. at the family's home on Linwood Road. Investigators said the two boys and their mother were getting ready for school at Cramerton Christian Academy when the shooting happened. The boys' father was out of town when he was notified about the shooting. Police have not released any other information.
  5. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) I think this about sums it up. The arrest may have been over the top, and when it's all sorted out, I don't think there should be any charges. But, it's along the lines of 'don't yell FIRE in a crowded theater. After 9-11, you don't make bomb jokes at the airport. Right or wrong, after VT, you're probably going to get scrutinized more if your writing assignments dwell on violent massacres. Great comment and a great analogy. You changed my mind on this.
  6. I'm not certain how to write the rule to eliminate the obvious stuff that is wrong from the minor that clearly would not have an effect on the game. Do we think that for a moment a team would play harder if they knew four bottles of Champagne were up for grabs? How many bottles were showered on the Sox in 2005? If this was Mark Buerhle getting fined and/or suspended we'd be up in arms like you wouldn't believe.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 05:54 AM) You think he could've changed the sock during the game? B I N G O !! Why didn't the trainer insist on it? They could have changed socks without changing the bandage.
  8. On the likability front and the "which candidate would I want to watch my kids for a weekend" I'm leaning towards McCain. I really liked him in 2000, my only worry is the years have not been kind.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) See that's where you and I are different. You see that, and assume that means that the GOP is the ultimate evil media machine. I hear that and say what is the other side of the story. I find it interesting that somehow the democrats are this bunch of inept bumbling fools, who have this horrible disadvantage, because they never thought to be mean to anyone else in their whole lives. The poor guys can't even get their message out. Awww, poor democrats. I am sure that there is no chance that there isn't an equally effective movement that decries everything that Republicians say as either the rantings of religious wackos, or a neo-con conspiracy to try to take over the world, or control the worlds oil markets, or take down everyone who disagees with them, or completely disregard the law (because no other public officials have ever done that), who hate everyone who isn't a white christian male, who only care about the rich, and supply every man-woman-child in the country with a machine gun so that they can kill freely anyone who looks at them funny. Nope, it is just the evil Republicians. I don't think they are an evil media machine. I think the GOP has an advantage with the media. Their followers will dismiss unfavorable stories. If I was a political strategist, I'd want that for my candidate. Why try to manipulate the media, and both sides would dearly like to do that, when you can just let them print anything and have it not matter? They cloned Reagan in that regard. That's American style politics and I applaud them. I don't think that alters their message or makes it better or worse. You think the DEMs have an advantage in the media, so be it. I can't see how anyone could disagree that the GOP has an absolute lock on talk radio 24/7. I don't think Republicans want to hurt America, they love American as much as any liberal. It's the vision for America that differs. I also think if you look at this ideological tug of war, it doesn't move us too far from center, no matter how hard either side is allowed to pull.
  10. What is the body count in most action thrillers? This seems so unreal. Based on this, how can we allow Stephen King to be walking free? Check the kids video games as well.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) No thats great be proud! Mexicans are better at this than anyone else. I mean who else gets to break laws and have people make excuses for them, while taking jobs and draining $40 billion from the US economy last year, which was sent to in cash Mexico, never to be spent in the US again. Can you think of anyone else who has a better set up? they must control a lot of TV and radio stations to convince everyone how great they are. But hey they are the greatest, and should be pround! Viva la Mexico! We are confusing two issues. I believe it is fair to examine police tactics. If they planned this to intimidate AMERICANS HERE LEGALLY from their right to free speech, that is wrong and should be addressed. If they had a legitimate belief that their lives were at risk and that show of force was the best way to arrest these criminals while keeping honest innocent Americans safe, then I support them. I never said, NEVER SAID, that those should not have been arrested, and what they were/are doing is OK. Just because there are some Mexicans here illegally, doesn't mean that Americans who have Mexican ancestry should lose their rights and be treated like criminals. You obviously disagree.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) Eh, why not. We let 12 million people do whatever they want anyway, I guess a few more crimes won't hurt, right. After all they aren't white, so they shouldn't be subject to our laws. I hope you don't think that's what I am implying here.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) Oh, so we just control people's minds, the advertisors, and the radio. Yeah, brainwashed. Maybe not brainwashed, but come on, how often do we hear "media bias" when a story is unflattering to the GOP? Are you saying there are an equal number of liberal talk shows? Are you saying that these shows aren't advertiser driven? Be proud! The RNC is so much better at this than the DNC it makes the Dems look like amateur hour at the local comedy club. Name anyone on the planet that has been better at this over the past decade then Karl Rove? It's finally catching up to him, but the man is brilliant.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:18 AM) So you don't mind letting everyone else getting away once the word of the first arrest happens? I do mind. BTW, the reports seem confused about the violent killer. They didn't seem to be looking for him, just document forgers. If they were all non violent offenders, would the tactics then concern you? Cops stop high speed pursuits to protect citizens, they don't shoot at a fleeing suspect if there is a chance of an innocent person being harmed. Are you ok with letting them get away? My concern is they used over the top tactics as a way to silence a protest. That smacks of terrorism and something we can not allow our police to do.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) So how do you break up a group that includes the crimes of illegal aliens, killing people, running an illegal ID ring, tax evasion, kidnapping, dismemberment, robbery, and conspiracy, (right off of the top of my head)? As I mentioned earlier, take down the violent killer away from innocent people, not in a crowded shopping mall. Do you think they would have tried to arrest a danferous killer at Woodfield, or allowed him to exit the mall?
  16. I'm looking for someone who will balance the budget, raising taxes if necessary to accomplish that, but I would prefer they look at spending less first. I would also like someone who respects everyones religious beliefs. I would like someone with a plan to exit Iraq that doesn't involve us handing Iraq a blank check for the next two decades. A pro Constitution candidate who doesn't wish to trample on my rights.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:08 AM) No acutally I am not exaggerating. There is already on guy in this very thread who said he believes that ONLY the RNC partakes in these kind of activities, and you seem to believe that the media is a GOP controled machine. You guys are brainwashed. No re-read what I wrote. They can't control the media, even better, and this is what is genious, they control how you view the media. They have convinced a large segment of the population that the media has a liberal bias, is out to *get* the GOP, and is not to be believed. That is the beauty of their strategy. The talk radio is dominated by GOP leaning hosts. Just look at the shows that are available. How can you compare? The GOP lined up some great advertisers who will sponsor those shows in any market regardless of ratings and demographics. Brilliant. Be proud GOPers
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:15 AM) How many crimes need to be committed before we do something serious? I am not against arresting and convicting them. I have no problem with that. But again, it's the tactics. Was the force appropriate for the situation? Would they have gone into Enron with the same tactics to arrest them for their white collar crimes? I think we need to over see the police and not allow them free reign. If they did indeed decide on this method because they wanted to send a message, or because of the race of the people, etc. we ought to know that. I don't want to draw this parallel, it wasn't that extreme, but think a couple steps from this and it looks like the gestapo coming in. That's what I want to avoid. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) See Flash's posts. Having to nab an entire ring of people, getting them individually is highly problematic, more dangerous, and less likely to succeed. They were selling false documents. Why would you think they were dangerous? Especially to the level that the police responded? I must be missing something in here. Were any of them already convicted for violent crimes? It looked like to me they were entering a Gang Headquarters not a shopping mall.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:55 AM) It is because he wrote a piece about it, and drudge picked up on it. From the TG people I know, its such a hard thing to go through, and really really can destroy someone's psyche. I can't imagine making that decision. I can't pull the trigger on Lasik. Reading his article, he really seems committed and ready for it. I wish him the best of luck.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:14 AM) And there is never anything coming from the other side of the aisle... Yikes. You guys really are brainwashed. Yes the GOP is a complete multimedia machine which is unopposed by anything known to modern man, and has the power to control the thoughts of every man woman and child on the planet. That's why President Bush has a mid 30's approval rating. You keep buying the Clinton company line about a vast right wing conspiracy, because tin foil looks good on you. LOL. The GOP has been screaming media bias for so long, it worked. 24/7 conservative talk. It's amazing. Be proud GOP_man. And I assume you are exaggerating, or else here's the tin foil
  21. We thought 2005 was toast with Thomas. Who am I kidding, it would be a looooong summer without Thome.
  22. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-oldmik...viewed-homepage My first reaction was to check the date of the story to see if this was 1980 something. But no, it's fresh. So I wonder is this really news in 2007? I've seen the headline on a few news headline sites, so people seem to be talking about it, but is it just industry stuff so the media covers it?
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) Obviously it is pretty much the opposite of that. If the GOP agenda is making it out into the public hands, and the DNC isn't. If they had such good control of things, there wouldn't be leaks, for example, like the DNC. They get their message out, and no one even seems to notice it. When the media reports on GOP failings, the GOP radio network, and their loyalists, start screaming media bias. Teflon. It's easily the single greatest political strategy of our time. They have insulated themselves from criticism. It's not about message. It's about the GOP faithful believing that any bad news is just media falsehoods and any good news is obviously fact and probably underplayed. Like I said, it's brilliant. Reagan had it by his larger than life personality and charm. They figured out how to synthesize it and wrap even someone like Bush in it.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) So exactly what laws do people have to obey anymore? SS, There is an appropriate amount of force that we allow our police to use. We don't expect them to raid Enron in full riot gear, pushing every MBA against the wall asking for ID, drawing their guns and kicking in the bathroom doors, to arrest people for white color crimes. When it appears that the police may have been in the terror game, it must be investigated.
