Shades of green in carbon offsets?
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) And they are a complete joke. They aren't nearly disincentive to stop behavior. I know for a fact that one of the main steel mills pays over $1 million A DAY in fines to the EPA, because it is cheaper than actually changing and fixing the problem. link?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 06:46 AM) If you seriously believe that only the RNC does this kind of stuff, there isn't much point in even talking to you about politics at all. The only difference between the two is the RNC is much better at this and has control of the publics perception of the media (against the GOP, helpful to Dem) and the opinion talk shows. The RNC doesn't have to control the media, all they had to do is discredit it.

Citizens Protest Authorities
The killer thing has me confused. If they knew a killer may have been there, and hence the weapons drawn and large show of force, why not take him separate and in an area with less innocent people? If they didn't know he was there, we are back to the why all this show of force for a white color crime?

White Sox vs. Angels, 4/27/07 (W)
Since I was rained out, do I have free reign to start this one? Or was I blocked? I don't want to test fate and be a jinx,

Citizens Protest Authorities
QUOTE(NUKE @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) If I were in that neighborhood I'd probably not feel comfortable unless I was armed also. As for these people. I don't know who the bloody hell they think they are. They feel as though they can just flout the law and then start a protest when they get arrested for doing so. And we tolerate it. We tolerate it because all these whiny leftist diversity nazi's get a woody at the thought of this country being overrun by illegal aliens. The people protesting where the innocent people who were treated like criminals because they were hispanic.

Hunter hit in mouth by pitch
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) Never like to see that happen to anyone not named Bonds.

Mark Buehrle AL player of the week
Those two, look at Thome's walks, are a classic example of having someone protecting a hitter and making them pitch to you. I'm guessing A-Rod would have had a very similar week to Thome, less hits, waaay more walks, on the Sox.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) I wouldn't bet on Edwards just yet. He would be the second easiest candidate for the Repubs to demonize, next to Hillary. The work has done, the positions he has had, and the stances he has take will be very easy to fire up a Republician base with, and potentially scare some moderates. Believe it or not, I think the hardest person for the Repubs to go after would actually be Barrack, because they risk looking like racists if the attacks are too harsh. They don't have to go after him. That's the really sad part. The other issue is we love Governors, not Senators.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
This election is the Dems to lose. Bush's approval rating is a stench that will stick to every GOP candidate that is currently out there. So the Dems can either think Now we can elect a "barrier breaker: in Obama or Clinton or Don't f*** this up by nominating an unelectable candidate. Hillary is about as unelectable as anyone in the field. Obama is approaching that level. Hillary has too much negative baggage. Edwards would win in a cakewalk.

Citizens Protest Authorities
What is troubling to me is the show of force for a "white collar" crime. Guns drawn etc. I wonder what they were expecting?

Prior Injured for Life
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) And in the continuing kicking of Mark Prior, because he was on the minor league DL when he had his surgery, this season will NOT count towards his major league service time. He will now have to wait until after the 2009 season to be a major league free agent. ouch . . .

Citizens Protest Authorities
Hundreds of innocent people detained at gun point, hundred innocent processed, to arrest 15 of the 60 warrants. Again, imagine if Federal agents detained hundreds of white people? Her comment, if I could help translate, they want the documents so they can go get a job. Not so they can take a government handout, they want to work. I have more sympathy for someone who is desperate for a job than legal residents who sit on their ass and accept public aid.

Terry Bevington Update
QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Wow. What a bump. "Cracker-Cats?" Something to do with the oil industry up there. I spoke with him when he was managing in the Texas-Louisianan League. I wonder how significant it is if you Google Terry Bevington a soxtalk thread is in the top five links and we weren't even around when he was managing the Sox.

Citizens Protest Authorities
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) It was believed that the ring was being run out of the Little Village Discount Mall, at least partially. I highly doubt yuppies in Woodfield are looking to buy fake ID's and stolen SSN's. But how many were innocent versus the guilty? Did they really have to go to those extremes with innocent people there shopping? Were forgers considered armed and dangerous? I'm surprised the police went in like that. In fact I doubt the accuracy of those statements. OK, bathroom walls. You are inside changing your baby and the police break down the bathroom door with guns drawn? Seems extreme and as I mentioned above, I wonder if it is really accurate. This must not be the kind of mall I am thinking of. I know Woodfield is too big, but I picture a public place with the public strolling among shops.

Citizens Protest Authorities
Seems a bit overzealous. Imagine if they shut down Woodfield and kicked in those doors with guns drawn.
