Software issue (using a program written in VB)
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) Can anyone think of a reason why a program will run if and only if it is loaded using floppy disks? We loaded all the diskettes onto a CD and tried that way (since my work computer doesn't have an A:\ drive). It will load up, but when you try to run the software you get an error saying the database is already open. The IT guy and I tried to solve this for a half a day before giving up. It is bugging me because it doesn't make sense. Why should the media the program is being loaded onto my PC from make any difference? At some point is the program trying to read the "A" drive? If the program makes a call to a non existent drive, it may shut down as an error. Try renaming the CD drive. Off the top of my head, it is the only thing I can think of. OK not the only thing. Could it be that when switching from one floppy to the other the install programs closes that database? perhaps putting them on separate cds and renaming the drive may work. OK, more than two. You have checked that the program and floppy disks are good? Isolate all variables so you are working with :known to be good" stuff. Why do I feel stupid telling this to an engineer who is far smarter than I?

Unity '08
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) There will never be three viable parties in this country unless it's for a short short short period of time. See: Bull Moose, La Follette's Progressives, Nader, maybe. I could see a third party wiping out the Dems or Reps, probably the Dems. At election time, both parties dive to the left and right, leaving the middle wide open for a viable upstart.

I wish it would happen that way. I see a small group that will be the swing vote on everything. Perhaps they will act differently than everyone else we send to Washington, but I'm thinking the new party will work harder at representing "their constituents" by pointing out the great projects (pork) they have brought to their district in hopes of getting more of their new party elected. It is pork grease that lubricated the wheels of congress. No matter what, two of the three will be needed to pass. The only time I see the DEMs and REPs getting together would be to figure out a way to eliminate the 3rd Party and bring things back to "normal". There will be even more pressure to keep the party votes in line or else a three way deal would be necessary, something even harder to do.

More Sox History: Who remembers the 1977 Southside Hitmen ?
No matter how well the team did or didn't play, the place was fun. It was entertainment. Something I haven't seen again at a mlb facility but I see in unaffiliated and minor league parks.

Buehrle: No longer a gone-slinger
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) I'll believe it when I see it. This could very well be a guy worried about getting booed all year, so he is just saying all of the right things. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) pure politics. Now the blame is soley going to be on the Sox when we cant match the offer. And I applaud Mark for being PR savy enough to do that.

Commuter nightmare in Cali
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) So I guess that means the people who didn't believe that this could weaken a structure enough to make it collapse were wrong. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18392684/ It's all part of the cover up of the government's continuing conspiracy regarding 9/11

If we think there is gridlock and pork in Washington with two parties, toss in a third. Nothing would happen unless two of the three aligned. Having said that, I love choice and I like the idea of a coalition running. There are DINOs and RINOs out there that in reality would fit perfect in this party, or so it seems.

Ethanol
QUOTE(DePloderer @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 08:41 AM) What are you talking about? Is this some kind of Popcorn flavoured petrol? Used cooking oils are being processed for use as a fuel. I've heard of a french fry odor. but not popcorn. Here is a link from your edge of the world http://www.nowpublic.com/cooking_oil_into_fuel wiki on the subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegoil

More Sox History: Who remembers the 1977 Southside Hitmen ?
It was the summer that all my friends and myself were getting our drivers licenses. Scary driving the expressways the same week we got our license, but we did. I probably saw more games that summer than any other year. Singing with Nancy was incredible. It was really cool when the old guys like FlaSoxxJim and YASNY would buy us sodas

Randall Tobias Oversaw U.S. Foreign Aid Programs
It is a shame that from all indications a very good guy felt he had to resign.

Linkage Liar. I would have more respect if he said he used the service for sex. Clinton inhaled and Tobias used the service for sex. There are legit massage therapy services he would have called.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Yes to 15 stitches above the eye. Better yet, yes to an emergency room that got me in and out in 45 minutes (talk about amazing). The worse part was our freaking team lost the game too so I took the elbow to the head in vein and we got eliminated from the playoffs with the loss. Yes to some pain killers?

Alex Rodriguez on pace for 126 homers
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) Who even gives a f*** anymore? It's become so played out, every time a player does something positive offensively you get to hear about how he's probably on some sort of performance enhancing drug. I'm just so f***ing sick of the lameass speculation about EVERYONE. What's the point anymore? If there were two leagues, the performance enhancing league where anything goes and the all-natural organic league, which league would draw better? 550 foot monster homeruns and 100 mph pitches or Small ball and knuckleballers?

Gun control debate
Sadly we could go one for one on these. I doubt this family would agree that a gun was good protection for the, Child Killed in Accidental Shooting A five-year-old boy who was shot by his 8-year-old brother Friday died several hours later at Carolinas Medical Center. The accidental shooting happened just before 8 a.m. at the family's home on Linwood Road. Investigators said the two boys and their mother were getting ready for school at Cramerton Christian Academy when the shooting happened. The boys' father was out of town when he was notified about the shooting. Police have not released any other information.

Over-reaction or stopping a VT?
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) I think this about sums it up. The arrest may have been over the top, and when it's all sorted out, I don't think there should be any charges. But, it's along the lines of 'don't yell FIRE in a crowded theater. After 9-11, you don't make bomb jokes at the airport. Right or wrong, after VT, you're probably going to get scrutinized more if your writing assignments dwell on violent massacres. Great comment and a great analogy. You changed my mind on this.

Torii Hunter should be getting a 3 YEAR suspension
I'm not certain how to write the rule to eliminate the obvious stuff that is wrong from the minor that clearly would not have an effect on the game. Do we think that for a moment a team would play harder if they knew four bottles of Champagne were up for grabs? How many bottles were showered on the Sox in 2005? If this was Mark Buerhle getting fined and/or suspended we'd be up in arms like you wouldn't believe.
