Taking the midnight train going anywhere
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) Anyone ever ridden the train across the country? Any tips? . If there is something specific you want to see from the train, a mountain pass for example, double check the schedule and make certain you won't be chugging along that area at night. Ear plugs Good books Moist Towelettes Eye Drops Facial tissues Plenty of small bills Maps / Guidebooks A travelers attitude. Enjoy everyone you meet. It isn't better or worse, just different. Get off the train and stop into the locals hangout. Damn, I'm jealous.

Gun control debate
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) The only hunting I am against is when people kill the animal just to kill it (i.e. don't eat the meat or use the skins in some form). Hiw about using the skin/head for decoration? You know, a nice trophy for the wall?

Oh Imus...
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) SS2K. Us conservatives are too busy raising our families and going to work to go downtown on a weekday for a protest to get on TV. Is there anything that Conservatives would care enough about to go downtown and protest?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) So far, I've been to 41 of the 50 states, and 11 countries on 3 continents. Where do I want to go? Everywhere. Anywhere. Not enough time to see everything I'd like to see. Tex- We're doing another CDT segment this year, in Montana. Long weekender, in late August. PM if you want to join us (Middle of Somewhere). We do at least one segment every year. That could work. I had to cancel my New Mexico 10 day trip earlier in the month. After two months on the beach, I'm looking forward to elevation changes and trees.- NY Times calls for Attorney General's dismissal.
It appears that the Republicans are distancing themselves from the White House and basically allowing a feast on the Attorney General. I am feeling he is being the fall guy for a bunch of people who really want to take a bite out of our President's ass, but can't. These issues, while serious in their own right, are just the tip of a sword.- Remember Jim McGreevey?
You can learn a lot more about tigers by someone who grabbed hold of a tail and got mauled then by someone who never grabbed the tail. I'd love to sit in an Ethics class taught by someone who was taken down by ethics, so give me DeLay or any of these guys. They've learned the lessons the hard way. Beats some professor who has never been in the position to be making ethical or unethical choices. I'd like to know why he picked the dark side, why he thought he could get away with it, etc.- What the hell??? Why is the Wii so hard to find still?
They underestimated the demand. The key segment was retirees. This is the highest demand game console ever for that age range. Institution are purchasing them as part of their physical activity offerings. I'm not certain if that is more a factor of the device and games available, the price point, or that these Seniors are starting to be from an age when tech isn't as foreign to them. Either way, Wii and Viagra is making being retired much more physical And isn't this really just a way to find more excuses to tell your daughter is it? QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) Well, I'm neither...but I think that in terms of cleanliness, safety of the food, and carefulness of preparation, hunting your food is probably better for you than eating a burger from a cow raised on a factory farm next to who knows how many diseases and slaughtered in such a way where fragments of its brain stem wind up ground into meat. No matter what your view on hunting, I thnk it lessens the argument if you are anti-hunting and eating some ground cow from Brazil. Balta, I wish all sportsmen are careful when processing game, I take mine, after field dressing, to a commercial processor so some of those same issues could be present.- Catch-All Anything Thread

Predicting the future . . .- Gun control debate
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) I am sure that is true but I was responding to the notion that there are certain hunters that need to hunt otherwise they and their family will die. I find it hard to believe that a large number of people in our country are in that situation. But who knows...maybe I'm wrong. No, you are right which brings up an interesting question. I once knew a guy who was out of work and refused any sort of public assistance for himself. He allowed his wife and kid some help, but he was going to provide for himself and supplement the family freezer. Long story short, he's in front of a judge for exceeding the legal limit for small mouth bass, his defense to the Judge was God put thme there for his people to eat, and he was out of work and trying not to starve. He still was fined, etc., But it made a strong point to me. Are y'all suggesting a new government agency to track mental health records? How about someone who visits a private Doctor and is never hospitalized? Which government agency would you have tracking that information? Would that not stop some people from getting help? s***ty situation, I agree. But if we create some new tracking system, and it chases people away who need help, we may be creating a worse situation.- Gun control debate
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) There are hunters out there that don't hunt for sport. They hunt to feed their family. Depends on how you are defining feed their family. I'd say close to 95% are hunting for the table, if not more. There are some who want the trophy for their wall, or who donate/give away the harvest, but most will process/have processed the meat for their consumption. Hunting, unlike fishing, isn't "catch and release". With the exception of Soxy that I know of, the rest of us enjoy animal flesh and muscle. Harvesting your own meat is a great experience and connects you with nature and its' bounty. Or, I've known a couple, it will turn you into a vegetable hater and you will only feast on the raw or cooked veggies that nature also provides. And while a lot of hunters also fish, there are waaay more fisherman than hunters around. It's just so expensive to hunt and good land can be tough to find. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Ok, now this is just getting excessive. Forget the concealed weapons debate for a moment here. Can someone please explain to me exactly why a person who is found mentally ill and potentially dangerous by a court of law, has been committed temporarily to a mental institution by his parents, and is if nothing else a potential suicide threat should be allowed to walk into a store anywhere and buy a couple of guns and a mountain of ammunition? A criminal background check would not have turned up anything that would negate his right to bear arms. His medical history would have possibly been confidential, and unless Illinois changed since I lived there, that reporting is voluntary by the applicant. FOID Application Here As I suspected, self report any mental problems. Is there a clearing house for that information? All he has to do is lie. And remember only criminals would do that.- Soccer Hooligan ~ This Time It's Mommy
