Bush wants a "War Czar" for Iraq, Afghanistan
Texsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NUKE @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 03:31 AM) Those were the original war aims. Now that this has shifted to a counterinsurgency fight things are different. Unfortunately, we're not doing nearly everything we can and, as I said, our priorities are just totally in the wrong place. Maybe after achieving the original aims, we should have declared Mission Accomplished and exited. -
I was wondering if Imus had played a clip of a black comedian mentioning hos, if he would have received the same career death sentence. I understand the "Mariotti" effect. I am like you so I can say something offense and you will laugh vs. I am not like you so if I say the exact same thing I'm the anti-Christ. I understand it, but I am starting to distance myself from the PC crowd. What happens to Imus should happen to the next person who makes similar statements, regardless of their color.

Inspired by another thread, I was wondering what y'all are looking/listening for in a sports talk show host. I want good to great guests, good pacing, relevant stuff outside of sports, and finally, if the host absolutely has to, perhaps some commentary from the host. I don't care as much about what the hosts thinks, I'd rather spend a hour listening to six guests than the host and one guest, no matter how knowledgeable the host may be. Keep it moving, I don't want to spend thirty minutes on one topic, well at least most of the time.

QUOTE(NUKE @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) I could go on a 20 minute rant about what I think of the way this war is being run but I would get in SOOOOO much trouble. I guess it took me coming back over here again here and now to see just how......well yeah, you see where Im coming from. Suffice it to say that we could be doing sooooooo much with what we have here but our priorities are laughably out of whack. I thought the priorities were to find the WMD and remove SH from power. Mission Accomplished!! QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) That's what I said when I read it. It sounds like a joke, but its not. The Onion link the Balta tossed out there is a joke. It's the Onion. Too many frickin' MBAs around here -
Bush invites Dems to White House, re: Iraq
Texsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 10:04 AM) Exactly. The problem with our entire government is it is all about "acting" and "political correctness", and not about governing anymore. How much air time do I get? How much can I make the "other side" irrelevant? Etc. Etc. Etc. It's disgusting, and it's exactly why NOTHING gets done on any level anymore. And how can I discredit the media when they print something negative and grab all the glory when it's positive. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 09:03 AM) The Mounties have surrounded Frank's house and threatened to take his 981 home runs (I believe that is what 488 is after translation to Canadian) away if he protests this decision.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 07:09 AM) exactly. Look, for as much as you want Bush to "negotiate" or "compromise", the Democrats don't WANT to negotiate, they want to make Bush APPEAR just like you're making him out to be. You would have to give both sides the benefit of the doubt, or neither side. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) Pedro, Griffey & A-Rod > Thomas & Thome but I have to agree.

I got it on the first try and then it tool like ten more before I could do it again. Damn old age and forgetfulness.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) The truth is that this is a decision that should be made by the patient or the patient's family with the input and assistance of their physicians providing treatment. Nobody else should get that decision. Who exactly is the patient's family? Estranged spouse? Parents? Children? Who mediates? -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Nice Hey Kap, the server is slow again, would you go fix it for us? And the baby needs changing,

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) I don't see how in the world he would get served papers in the clubhouse. They wouldn't let Carlton Fisk in the clubhouse during the 1993 playoffs. No way they'd let a process server in. I don't buy it. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Process servers are legal like supeonas and most likely would be allowed to enter the clubhouse. Fisk was released in the summer of 93 and showed up to the playoffs and they wouldn't let him in the clubhouse. She would not, as a matter of normal business, have a say in when the paper was served. If he wasn't living at their home, or if for some reason the home was impossible to enter, then being served at work would happen. Servers do not want to be chasing people all over the place. I have also heard where the two attorney's will get together and arrange for the paper to be served. I won't take sides, being a spouse of someone who travels extensively and who has women tossing themselves at his feet, must be very stressful. It seems that more athletes are less than wonderful husbands.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) You have got to be joking. LESS advisors and handlers? This administration may have been a lot better if Bush and his 2 or 3 closest allies had ever bothered to get expert advice from ANYONE. Ever. This has been a Presidency that has clearly, even proudly, stated that the President makes his decisions "from his gut", and the man actually thinks that getting input from those who might not agree is a sign of weakness. Here is a challenge for anyone on this board - show me any single thing this President has done since about 1/1/03 that has been positive. Any law he's gotten passed, any executive order that ended in a positive, any well-handled international relations, anything. That's a 4 year period, and I am struggling to find even one positive thing he has done, against a whole plethora of negatives. Even Carter's 4 years were better than that. And before the inevitable non-answers come out, I am not asking about what he HASN'T done, nor am I asking who might or might not have done better. I'm simply asking, what positives has he accomplished in the last 4 years? I think those two closest allies you mention hurt him, he'd have been better on his own. He started out great and sunk from there. I believe there are times in history where you just have to grab on and keep riding the storm out. He is leading in an unprecedented time and while there are not a lot to build a legacy on, I'm not certain he hasn't done as well as anyone could have. -
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Isn't it a common injury among football players that they can play through? Not certain with football players, but it's the first time I can remember a baseball player sidelined. I'm just offering a theoretical counter to Balta's comment. I will say if Frank played is career for the Cubs, Twins, Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, or A's tongues would wag here.

I applaud the man for the meeting and hold out that his statement was an opening negotiating point. He has demonstrated the courage to follow his heart in other matters that finds himself surrounded by Dems (immigration). I believe his Presidency would have been better if it was more Dubya and less advisors and handlers. -

While no choice is perfect, I think the final decision should come through our legal system with input from the family and Doctors. -
Lights Out, Lidge That shot by Pujols was awesome. I've seen Frank really nail some, but that was enormous. And would keep any pitcher up at night.
-
It would be a very sad day if it was proven that Frank had taken a steroid. Balta makes a great case, but if I was prosecuting I would point to a couple unique injuries. Who actually tears a bicep?
