QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) No man will go to a game with a chick anyone wearing pink sox gear. *Unless she is 8 or younger. fixed

Reminds me of 1959 when the air raid sirens were turned on to celebrate the AL Pennant. Baseball fans, and especially Sox fans, knew what it was, others were panicking.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) It bothers me when the change in thinking is done simply because they other side changed their minds. I agree and would add, or for political gain. But we are getting to the point that as soon as someone can tag a flip flop label on someone, deserved or not, it is labeled as a negative, especially if you don't agree with the second decision. That's what concerns me.

The system needs an overhaul. that is obvious, what isn't obvious is what to do. As soon as you push here something squirts out there that you don't want. I don't know how many kids you have, I suspect none, but the small increases in assistance for each child doesn't come close to meeting their demands. Having more kids isn't a ticket to wealth in this system. Plus, the money in theory is to help the children, do you really think the American taxpayer is going to deny food and shelter to an infant or child? It's easy to fall into the "we're not going to give the adult more money for having that child, but that just hurts the child and causes more of a drain. It is a very tangled mess we gradually got ourselves into, and it probably will be a gradual fix.

Since when is standing by a bad decision something we covet in a leader? There is a difference in changing your mind on a daily basis and changing your mind when new information becomes available, or if your original idea isn't panning out. Are we treading on dangerous ground when we do not allow elected leaders to adjust the sails? Isn't it a bit of insanity to think we always make the right decision the first time?
-
I believe was are treading on dangerous ground here when as a general rule, making a new decision with new information, is considered a bad thing. Not specific to anyone person and any specific situation, why is standing behind a bad decision a good thing and willing to admit you made a mistake and changing your position a bad thing?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) Too bad we waste a lot of this money taking care of people who don't deserve it. It sickens me to watch an old withering person who's worked hard their entire life go without adequate health coverage or adequate retirement money (ESPECIALLY veterans) when undeserving people who are too lazy to get a job contine to reep the benefits of our old, out-dated and entirely too socialistic welfare system. Perhaps I should change my sig from 'Work harder, millions of Americans on welfare depend on you,' to ' Work harder, millions of Americans on welfare depend on you while the old deserving Americans are left out.' I know, doesn't really have anything to do with the thread topic, but this sentence got me thinking. I basicaly agree with you. But, just like much of the foreign aid we dish out, these programs also keep desperate people from stealing and other socially unacceptable actions. At some point it becomes a cost/benefit analysis. Keeping them in prison is more costly, and probably more "fair", than having them on public assistance programs.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 02:33 AM) I voted no way, but I can't remember the last time I paid for MSOffice or any software whatsoever. In other words, I like pirates. And am I delirous, or did there used to be a day when Microsoft Word came free on Windows machines? QUOTE(vandy125 @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) I think that it was Microsoft Works that came for free. Old people will remember when there wasn't a Works program. Word was bundled with most new Windows machines. Then Works came out as a home version of Office and now that gets bundled. That was also in the days before "suites" when you would buy a word processor (Word, AmiPro, Word Perfect, Word Star, etc.) a spread sheet (Lotus 1,2,3, or Excel), perhaps a data base program (D-Base). This was also the dark ages when Macs and PCs didn't talk to each other. When you couldn't always open an AmiPro document in Word and vice versa.

I bought Logitech's MX3200 keyboard and mouse yesterday. I had been using an aged keyboard on my old laptop, and a small travel mouse, this is sooooo much better. With this setup, I think I can chase Southsider for the coveted 100,000 post mark. I really can't believe the difference. I was thinking of getting Microsoft's bluetooth version, but decided on this one instead. One small set up issue, it won't work through my USB hub, it has to be plugged in direct.

QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.../701310347/1003 If U.S. Airways can afford to buy Delta Airlines for 10 billion........including 5 billion in cash........then how is it that they can get dump their pension liability ( worth 3 billion ) on the taxpayers? What a rip off. Side Note: Which is one reason why privatizing social security worries me. As a society we will not step over a senior citizen who has worked hard all their life and is now destitute because the company he invested in made poor decisions. So the tax payer will wind up picking up the tab. And I've always kind of thought that Social Security was basically unemployment insurance and public aid with a better marketing plan. And we should be happy that we live in a country that is so blessed we can take care of people. The vast majority of countries on the planet would have to stand by and watch people starve.

Thank you, that one is cool. I also just thought to check the Pawn shops in the area.

Here is why Brit wasn't on the list, her demise was so predictable.

You must not be a second child I don't see a problem, plus you said you were awake, so what's the deal? Did your wife have a problem with the lateness of the call or did she stay awake another hour whispering and giggling with her sister?

I'm wondering of the people who have voted no way, how many have actually paid the $$$$ for Office? The roi of renting versus owning would be about 2 years. And with upgrades and etc. happening about every two years, the cost/benefit isn't as far out of line as first appearance.

I'd vote for McCain over several in the Dem field, so I would consider him a "threat" to Dems. I'd have voted for The Hammer, but his career was smeared to death. Newt would be interesting, but the ethics stuff will kill him. Political bargained deals cling to you like the cheap perfume of a stripper. It may seem nice at first whiff, but soon it is a reminder of the slime. But all in all, I want Jeb to run and continue the BFD* *Bush Family Dynasty

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) There is a subtle grammatical difference between "opposed" and "was opposed to". If he was against he war, he "was opposed to" it. If he actually voted or did something against it, then he "opposed" it. That is the savvy marketing I was referring to. Too subtle for me. But like I said, it does highlight a couple things. First, He's not alone in a short national policy voting record, Governors also do not have a voting record like this, so they can use some of the same techniques and claim to be for or against something without having been put to a test via a vote. The second is how we all should be vigilant in reading these releases and be certain our impressions are grounded in some reality.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) One of the Perq's of a lifetime @ university is you don't have to spend more than a couple bucks for most Microsoft products. That is sweet.

I'm thinking $17 per month for WoW and millions of players, why not a program that is used as much? Plus. I'd bet more than a few people just say "charge it" anyways.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) I think its interesting, the way he is positioning his "history" about the war. He says he "opposed" the effort in 2002, giving the impression he voted against it - which of course he did not, since he was not in Congress yet at that point. Subtle conditioning of the truth there. How else would he write that? People here were for or against the war then, but they didn't vote for it. What it does show is he has free reign to claim almost anything. Of course every reporter worth their Selectric will be trying to uncover some objective evidence that he supported the war effort.

I really dislike "I'm running for office" legislation. I doubt he gets to be the sponsor of this bill if he isn't running. They would have put a different face on it.

I need to put together a low cost PA system for my Sea base this summer. I need to have speakers in three different locations spread out over an acre or so. One set of speakers will be inside, one outside, and one outside, but under cover. To save cost, I'm thinking portability and going with one set of speakers. I do not have to do any mixing or anything fancy. Just the ability to play MP3s and run a microphony. This isn't worked into my camp budget, so I'm trying to stay as close to zero as I can. Perhaps using a laptop and some amplified speakers I have laying around?? My portable sound knowledge is from the 1980's when I worked as a wedding DJ. I guess Technic 1200s aren't of much use anymore
