A friend of mine is the Director of MADD here, it's her job to work with the victims and families and be at all the court proceedings. I couldn't do her job. No amount of money could replace the years of my life it would cost.
  4. Might as well line up that All-Star break trade now. This could have a huge playoff race impact. Imagine his arm on the market in July. Someone would really unload their system to win this year

I brother died drunk driving and almost killed a friend of his who was in the car with him.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 08:40 AM) He must have been for it, before he was against it. Are we talking in broad terms, or a specific situation? If we are talking in broad terms, then against then for would be valid, as would a consensus opinion based on inaction, background, etc.
  7. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) If I'm a parent, I tell my kid to mind his teacher when appropriate, be respectful, and stand. Didn't realize I'm in the minority on that sentiment. I don't think we are the minority.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) So, if for example, a governor from some random large southern state were to declare during the Presidential campaign that he was in favor of regulating CO2 emissions from power plants, quite directly and specifically, even going so far as to put out specific proposals for the policy and having his underlings refer to it, despite having taken no steps at all to regulate virtually anything while he was governor, and then 2 months after taking office flip-flops and declares that he is not in favor of regulating CO2 emissions from power plants, wouldn't that satisfy your criteria exactly? (Yeah i know I belongs on the other side. I just couldn't resist on this one.) No, but if he actually did what he said he would do, it would. So if we rewrote that to read So, if for example, a governor from some random large southern state were to declare during the Presidential campaign that he was in favor of regulating CO2 emissions from power plants, quite directly and specifically, even going so far as to put out specific proposals for the policy and having his underlings refer to it, despite having taken no steps at all to regulate virtually anything while he was governor, and then 2 months after taking office pushes for regulating CO2 emissions from power plants, wouldn't that satisfy your criteria exactly? Yes it would. And it speaks to character and believability.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) Yep, therefore it wasn't covered in my insurance, and I would need comprehensive insurance to pay for it anyways. However, if I had a homeowner's or renter's insurance, they would cover the aftermarket product. My sister's deductible for her homeowner insurance is the same as my car ($1000,) so I didn't file a claim. I didn't look around too much for the best price, but through the internet I had someone come to my work and fix it in about 45 minutes for just under $200. This sucks. I guess it's actually pretty common out here for this kind of crap. I was hoping to be wrong. At one time, you could write off the loss on your taxes. I'm not certain if that is still the case.
  10. I thought a speaker, like a PA speaker fell on her or something. But this . . .??

We see so many messages about don't drink and drive, but riding is equally bad. My heart goes out toi the families and friends. That woman who was drunk will now spend her adult life behind bars, probably never have children, be haunted by the victims she killed. And it probably isn't enough punishment.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) In both cases, its someone changing their views to get elected. I was about to write, I agree, changing to get elected is wrong. But I'm wondering, If they stay consistent with that new view, is it wrong? If they say, as President I will do this, even if it is opposite what they did as a Governor, Senator, etc. is that so bad? You are getting what you voted for and isn't that what we should expect? Now if they change back after the election, I'd be at the front of the impeachment line. But if they tell be they are Pro-X, even after voting Anti-X, and stay Pro-X as promised, I'm not certain I'm that upset. This also goes to an old debate of how a Senator should vote. If 55% or 90% whatever of his constitutes would vote Yes, does he have the moral obligation as a "representative of those people" to vote Yes? Or should he follow his own conscious (providing he has one and still got elected).

  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) Car got broken into last night. Step 1. filed police report. Then what? Call the insurance company? What type of insurance do I need have my $300 radar detector covered for? Who fixes my glass? I was told to go to a car dealership, but then I heard people can come to your work an do it. The radar detector will vary based on your policy and how it was mounted. They sometimes will have exclusions for after market accessories. You also will have to pay your deductible, which in many policies is different, and separate, from the glass.

QUOTE(Heartattack19 @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) Hopefully the sale of the land to developoers does not go through, the Chicago Area Council seems to be as corrupt as they get..... Not so much corruption as too many egos thinking they know what is best for the Council.
  17. Here's my point. I'd love for the debate to be, we've been too extravagant, we're going to cut this expense. Not, we're going to do the same as the previous. Wouldn't it be great if the Dems and Reps tried to out do each other for the public good? How about, now that we're in power we're going to do better and not take the spoils. But sadly, the Dem faithful will not push the Dems to do that. Instead we'll point to what the GOP did and say what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) It would have been the other way around for me -- less time having fun, more focused on rank. I was sitting on 'Life' for nearly two years before completing Eagle several months shy of my 18th birthday. I have to imagine you've traveled to Owasippe a few times, no? My son made Life at 12 and Eagle at 16 almost 17. Lots of fun in-between. Philmont (returning this summer) One of my Scouts made Life at 12 and is wondering which is happening first, his 18th birthday or his Eagle Board of Review. BTW, I have a couple openings for camp staff here Aquatics Director and camp medic (First responder, EMT, nurse, etc.)

  20. Just wondering how many states also say their state pledge in school as well. The pledge of allegiance to the Texas state flag is "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible." Lesser states probably don't even have one . . .
