  1. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) If Iraq's not already Vietnam the media will make sure it is by putting crap like this on during the war. Did we not learn anything? Exactly. We have to suspend freedom of speech when we are fighting a war. Never criticize the government. Damn hippy commies
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Now is not the time to dump Jamar. Now is the time to make sure he is ok. Make sure he understands the consequences of his actions. Make sure that, even though he effed up and effed up bad, he still has a support group around him. You turn your back on him now, and there's no telling what he might do. I do agree, however, he shouldn't have been on the bench. After you've all nailed him to the cross, has anyone thought about Jamar? Maybe he's realized what he's done and struggling with it. How would any of you like it if you screwed up and your entire support system turned its back on you? I'm not saying he shouldn't be kicked off the team. Or kicked out of school. I'm saying, NOT NOW! We aren't talking about a 29 year old who should know better. We're talking about a 19 year old that should know better but is still young and is going to make some horrible decisions. He should stand up to it like a man, but help him find his way. He will find a nice support system in jail. He doesn't need to be sitting on the bench.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Yes at selected locations. And while you are there your browser's homepage gets auto-redirected to the cardiac ward of the nearest hospital. The problem I have had trying to use it at BK is no electric outlets.

Look in the middle of the pack for the likely nominee. The front runners never seem to make it two years. I still like McCain or Newt if Delay doesn't run.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 06:33 AM) Who was the founding father that referred to the need for periodic revolution, and what was the context of that? John Lennon Revolution I am not certain what you are thinking, but Polybius's, The Histories speaks to that. That begets an old email campaign about the Republic is doomed when the citizens believe they can vote themselves gifts from the treasury, or stimulate the economy by taking from the public treasury more than is put in. Depends on your pov.

  7. I wonder if one of these is Nuke!?
  8. The lack of morality and ethics in this situation saddens me. Universities should be above this and teaching students, and the public, the values they hold. I doubt for 99% of the students and faculty, they share in how this is being handled.

  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) If they can't get documents and access and have no subpoena power, there's very, very little they can do. Henry Waxman is probably the best in the business at turning FOIA requests into reports on how corrupt the one-party system was, but without the ability to compel the turning over of documents, there was only so much investigation that was possible. It's a shame on all sides that conditions were allowed to worsen to the point where they are now. But at least to my eyes, the buck stops at the people in charge, and those weren't on my side of the aisle. 6 months from now, when things like this get uncovered, then I'll think it's appropriate to blame the leadership for not doing their job and uncovering it, but I think this is a direct result of the fact that the previous Congress was adamantly opposed to doing any oversight on any issue that could hurt the President. The problems in the VA Hospitals go back a long time. Certainly to Clinton's term, actually all the way back to Johnson that I can think of. I just don't like hiding behind we're not in charge. B.S. if reporters can get the information, Congress can as well.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Dems have had power barely a month and a half and can only do so much so fast...at least they're attempting to act now that someone pointed out the problem. I gotta call a foul. Just because the Dems did not have a majority doesn't mean they were powerless. Just like I do not want the GOP to just sit back sucking their thumbs and allowing the Dems to do whatever they please. Bring forth legislation, investigate, continue to work for the people who elected you. I will continue to expect my Senators to work on behalf of the great state of Texas, even though they are the minority party.
  17. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) All I know about the Golden Jew's ridiculous contract is that Mel Karmazin said he would do the deal again in a second, and was even interested in extending the contract. Mel is one hell of a salesman. I suspect they would. I also think he was worth more to Sirius than XM.
  18. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Me saying 3 million doesn't mean its right. I say look at the subscriber numbers around the time he jumped on board, and that doesn't seem to be that big of a stretch. And Stern has been on 1 year. Again, XM has better car deals, had better equipment (pretty compatible now), and was the name. Stern brought attention to satellite, like never before, and I think more people looked into the product. Again, before this year, if you went to the store and looked at the plug and play radios, XM blew them away. Either way, this merger should make this more of a mainstream product, but a lot of people cannot get past the 'pay for radio' idea. Usually once they hear it, they feel its worth it. These days, the monthly cost is 2 lunches. I am certain there are closely held surveys that measured the exact impact he had. It certainly could be said it kept Sirius in the game. I don't think the same investment could have been made in advertising, different entertainmemt, and have as big an impact. It is interesting to think about, is the size of Stern's contract keeping SIrius from remaining independent? Kind of like A-Rod and the Rangers?
  19. For a party game, you need something that is easy to remember how to play while drinking, and has some aggression and taunting. That describes Aggravation to a "t". Men against the women. If you knock a piece out, you have to drink. Alchy Uno is another favorite. 500 points and everyone drinks. Draw until you have a play.
  20. Ancient Brandmeier fans will remember this line "Jaaaames, has a mental problem . . ." I kept hearing that as I read that guys name.
  21. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Blowing up a CD player? Sheesh. I don't know about your Church, but I know the noon Ash Wednesday group from my Church and LMAO and what must gave been their reaction. Sorry God, that was wrong. Please forgive me and please bless the little pygmies in New Guinea, Amen.
  22. Foul mouthed little bombs . . .
  23. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Well, anytime you ask people to pay for something deemed a free service, not everyone is going to follow him. More popular? Well, if they didn't have to pay, probably. And the show is better. I've listened for 10+ years and I think he's doing his best stuff now. Fan boy numbers? Good one. Sorry, I phrased that poorly. Yours are about the most optimistic regarding his impact. Let's say that XM and Sirius split those subscribers, or they don't sign up at all. That makes it Sirius with between 2.1 and 3.6 and XM between 7.1 and 8.6 million. Game set and match. So I do agree that Sterns probably kept Sirius in the game. But if he had the kind of impact you are describing, XM would not have kept pace. If the public needed Sterns to add legitimacy and to prove satellite would be around, why sign up for the competitor? How does Stern and Sirius add legitimacy to XM? I agree it shows that Sirius was willing to make a huge investment, but I fail to see how it would help add legitimacy to XM.
