  1. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/15889727.htm While I love a good demonstration, this falls flat with me for a couple reasons A. Don't throw stuff at people B. Don't ruin other people's enjoyment of the show who paid $$$$. C. You know what you are getting, and it just isn't Evergreen. Stay outside and picket, yell, sing chants, etc. It's a great venue and stage to get out your message.
  2. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 07:09 AM) I don't know why we don't allow the estate to posthumously appeal in cases like this. They just lost a loved one, 99.99% of the time it wouldn't involve millions and millions of dollars.
  3. Every time I scan the thread title I think, of course he's happy, he just finished his worse season. How happy are the Sox with him? That is the better story. Pro players all grow up with a favorite team. Most put that away and don't act like fan boys. I wonder what screen name he uses on the Card's message boards. Having said that, I love the tarp slides and his figuratively flicking a booger at baseball tradition and having fun at the World Series. Better a Cards cap than a Tigers. for a great '07

    Jury Duty

    Monday, October 30. Sat in a theater and waited, and waited. I had with me a couple sailing magazines and settled in comfortably. As is my luck, a hefty woman sat down next to me and squeezed my space. It was suppose to start at 9:00 am. but that is a lie designed to get everyone there by the real starting time of 9:30 am. Anyhow, after three different people, at three different times, read the exclusions and exemptions, the Judge finally arrives. She reads the same list, although with a certain panache that was much appreciated. She also explains that every court needs a jury this week and excuses will be tough to receive. Still, dozens of people elected to try and skip their civic duty. Many returned to their seats. I am sitting wondering: A. If they would be good for the defense or prosecution if unhappily serving. B. When I can have a bathroom break. C. Does that person in front of me know her tag is flipped up on her blouse and what should I do. The bathroom break arrives and 120 people all descend on the same bathrooms. I pity the women whose line is stretching down the hall and around the corner. Settle back in the read some more. New Judge arrives, once again reviews the exemptions and exclusions and begins to read the names and assignments. Simple instructions, say "here" when your name is called and move to the wall to your right. First five people can't seem to grasp the concept. I can't believe they are allowed out in public without a chaperon. First group, come back at 2:00 pm. Second group, come back next week (Lots of unhappy looks). Third group, meet outside by the Annex at 1:30. Lucky for them it's 90 degrees and sunny. Finally I am called and heading back today. I hope this time I actually am empaneled. One last google check to see which Judge has this Court. This could be fun, she's the hot one.
  6. How many episodes do you give a show before giving up?
  7. It is going to be interesting if he is found guilty, all the evidence seems to be circumstantial and from a two year old, who was potentially coached by her mom. Plus, how could mom not have noticed? I two year old does not bathe themselves. 90% of the population of Ethiopia. A woman is "normal" in Ethiopia if she has the (insert description here: mutilation, procedure, religious tradition). I can imagine an Ethiopian court hearing a case where one parent is refusing the procedure.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) If he goes to the Angels, the Angels get stronger, but it takes away the Yankees' best trading partner if they really do want to get rid of ARod. Making it at least interesting for us. I'm surprised the Cubs didn't make a stronger push to resign him. The only push they had was for him to not take the option. Now that he is a free agent, they have another chance. I couldn't see him negotiating with the Cubs without exercising that option.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Of course it's only one position, they never flip flop Oops, There was one conservative that use to flip flop, however, he is now firmly in the fold, and no longer flip flops.
  10. I always marvel at how well our system works. Yes, in this case it seems wrong for her to be able to keep all the ill gotten gains. However, how wrong would it have been if she continued his appeals, while he's dead, to keep some stuff? Between the choices of allowing dead people's estates to appeal, and vacating the sentences of those who die holding a few cards and a stack of chips, this seems better. Having the government coming in and telling a citizen, sucks he died before he could appeal, give me the stuff, doesn't sound appealing for me. We allow these appeals because people sometimes (although I don't believe in this case) are convicted wrongly, and we don't know which ones are convicted wrongly until their appeals are heard. I would dislike an innocent person 's estate to suffer, especially their children, because someone dies before they could appeal.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) The best moment ever for Who's Line is when they had on Richard Simmons... and its not even close. Give a link rookie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwNAPTtfAFU
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) You know what, I would be remiss if I didn't give Soxtalk some credit for all of this. One of the things the political discussions have taught me over the years here is that I have to be detailed, accurate, well-read, and well-researched. Its also really reinforced the ability to interpret, synthisize, and analyze information and put into theory that fits the arguements at hand. Its weird to think that argueing with a bunch of strangers for the most part could be the potential jump start to a political career, but I know it sure has done some good when I look back on it, even with the stinking treehuggers Thanks again guys, and keep bringing it. We only get stronger and smarter through the quality exchanges. Where do I send the invoice?
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) LMAO. That's funny. I do what I can for y'all Remember Kap, Vote Kinky, Why The Hell Not?™
  14. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) unfortunately I can't get my 40 minutes back that i wasted on Interpol's first album... So pardon my extreme generalizations about s***ty music. "it's automatic when I Talk with old friends The conversation turns to Girls we knew when their Hair was soft and long and the Beach was the place to go Suntanned bodies and Waves of sunshine the California girls and a Beautiful coastline Warmed up weather Let's get together and Do it again" But that's my point, a generation ago, you wouldn't have had that opportunity. Would you like to go back to the days that you could only hear what your local radio station was playing, or what your local store may carry? You don't like almost anything played on the radio by "corporate bands", this is a far better time for you than any other time in history.
  15. They might be the worst team to ever win the WS, but every other team is lined up behind them this season. If they are the worse talent wise, they found a way to make that little talent work. They won, so how was it such a "crappy" team was able to win? Managing? Team work? Lucky breaks? If they are the worse talent wise, that makes them all the more amazing. To finish ahead of better teams and make the playoffs, to win three rounds of playoffs, with worse talent, as underdogs, pulling off bigger and bigger upsets, is possible the greatest World Series feat.
  16. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) I already have it. How? What did you think?
  17. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) Gave my two weeks yesterday because I got an amazing job offer... ...came to work this morning and they said "pack your bags." so, I get two weeks paid vacation. Any ideas for things to do? Post here and really invest your time. Jim
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) Only Democrats can write about sex and make it interesting. GOP sex these days is apparently very boring and involves only one position, because as far as I can tell anymore the GOP only knows how to ƒuck up. Of course it's only one position, they never flip flop
  19. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) 95% of music these days is unlistenable. It's a terrible time to be a music fan. So wrong again my friend. It is the greatest time and if you sit a spell, I'll tell you why. Unless of course your musical taste are in line with 98% of the population, then it's as good a time as any. And if your taste isn't in line with 98% of the population, it is the finest time ever on this planet to be a fan. With the internet, you can experience bands of all sizes, those with contracts and those without. Bands that want a big audience but not finding it, and bands that are fine with just making music for their mom's and girlfriends. That has never been the case in the history of mankind. If I'm in the mood for some Icelandic atmosphere, I am a couple mouse clicks away, Some 8-bit garage music by some 14-year old with an idea, a couple mouse clicks away. Terrible time? Nope, the only thing terrible is how much is out there and so little time to explore.
  20. There is a certain interest I have in hearing the lyrics and discovering the changes from hope I die before I get old youthful exuberance to today. I can't wait and will pluck down the $ for the CD. I've seen The Who two times in concert and would probably pluck down the cash if I happened to be living were they were touring. They haven't sunk to county fair and bar venues like several other I've attended.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Completely agree. That said I think people have been far more negative when it comes to Cora than he really deserves. Coaches and Presidents receive too much blame and credit.
  22. I believe we can agree that the team that is playing the best in October will probably win the WS. That may or not be the team that played the best in May, June, July, Aug, and September. This isn't an on any given Sunday situation. I think of all the sports, baseball has the best playoff situation. If St. Louis wins this series, it wasn't by luck. They were playing the best when it counted.
