QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Nope, you will not catch me in a church. I've had too many dealings with hypocrites involved with organized religion so I do things my way. Although I will go to my aunt's church (she's a minister) to support her. OK, does your way involve any additional effort on your part? Meditation? Prayer? Bible? Volunteering? I agree with you that Heaven is not just for those that have been saved by organized religions. But, it seems that if someone professes some faith, their should be some actions to support that faith, and an hour a week for our creator seems easy enough.

McCain would be very difficult to beat in the general, but easier in the GOP primary. I would be very excited about a McCain - (Conservative Dem) Independent bid. I'd be door to door for that one.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) I have no problems with any religion. I leave people free to practice any religion and I don't think any less of a person who practices another religion (such as just because they practice that religion, they won't go to heaven). Instead, while I believe in god, I don't go to church although in general my beliefs are Christian. However I adopt the theory that if people do good they'll go to heaven. I figure if heaven is such a great place and feel the point of religion (while its great to believe in another power) is to treat other people properly and with respect (essentially be a good person) and if you do that I feel you'll be rewarded in your afterlife (regardless of your religion). People can rip that up all they want, but its the way I live my life And grammatically that post sucked. Don't you think as a Christian, God is worth an hour a week? With so many flavors of Christianity, you can certainly find one that nurtures your soul?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) I have quite a few good friends that served in Iraq (a couple being West Point Grads) and than a couple being Army guys (out of high school) and the stories I've heard are all resoundingly positive of how much the people appreciate our army and us. I'm sorry but I refuse to let a vast majority ruin my perception of helping out a country. Albeit its still got a long ways to go and we need to find a way to get Iraq far more involved in there own mess, but stuff doesn't happen over night. We also have some family friends that are from Iraq (they had to flea and lost everything at one point during Saddam's reign) and obviously they are biased but they still have some family over there and they've been back to visit and talk about how much better the country is and how so many people are happy. That is all well and good, but imagine all the good we could have done with a few billion dollars and without spending it on bombs and bullets? There are a lot of countries that could have used our help and we could have said the exact same thing. btw, I think you meant flee

First off, I am a big fan of his and think he will serve with distinction and honor. He just sent this to the Aggie Faithful.

I like Bush the man, I believe he has made some great picks on the people around him, and think he is a terrible leader. What leadership has he really shown besides the distortions used to justify our invasion of Iraq? What cause has he championed? 9/11 showed what he could be, he was inspirational, comforting, amazing on a pile of rubble with a bullhorn. After that he just hasn't had the fire in his belly. Katrina should have been a turning point that propelled him, and the REP party, all the way to 2008. His efforts sucked. It seems he has let his party drift in the past couple years when they had everything politicians could want, the White House, both houses, a discredited judicial branch, and no one believing the press. What does Bush have to show for it? What does the country have to show for it?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) History was made Tuesday... Keith Ellison (D) won Minnesota 05 for the U.S. House. He is the first Muslim ever elected to ANY national office in the U.S. Minnesota certainly has a knack for bringing us some interesting politicians. see the terrorist are winning!

I have had the pleasure to listen to Gates on a couple occassions, and have seen the work he has done with the Boy Scouts. I believe he is one of the best picks that Bush could have come up with. I admire his character and citizenship. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) Yes. Why should he just tell the media everything going on in the White House, government, CIA, and whatever the hell else? You all got what you wanted - control of Congress and the EVIIIIIIIIL Donald Rumsfeld to resign all within 24 hours of each other. So, for just one day, can you let it rest for once? I guess not. He answered the question of how can you work with some one like Nancy who has been ridiculing him for months and years... politics makes you say stupid things - and I think he included himself in that as well. But of course, Bush and Cheney need to go, too. Hail Nancy! Kap, switch to decaf. By you, I suspect you mean the American voters, along with the millions of illegals, who want a change in Iraq. Rumsfeld was the head of the go to war group, and pushed that agenda. Now it's time for a plan to get out, and he is not the one to do it. In fact, I am trying to remember someone who would have been able to do both, lead us into the war and lead us out. I think that is a difficult task for any human. You want cynism, I believe his resignation clearly hinged on these results. If the GOP had retained control, it would have been a victory for "staying the course" and Rumsfeld would have, and dare I say, should have, stayed. I believe Bush has selected a great replacement, and look forward top the path our country will take these next two years.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Recording star Faith Hill insisted on Tuesday she was just clowning around backstage at the Country Music Association Awards when cameras caught her apparently reacting with angry disbelief as rival Carrie Underwood was named female vocalist of the year. In a live TV moment replayed repeatedly on the Internet the day after Monday's awards, Hill is seen throwing her arms up in mistaken triumph as Underwood's name is read, then shouting, "What!?" directly into the camera as her smile turns to a look of shock. The three other nominees shown on split screen -- Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride -- were all seen graciously applauding when Underwood, formerly of "American Idol" fame, was announced as the winner on the ABC telecast. Hill's manager and publicist issued statements on Tuesday saying that what television audiences saw Monday night was a product of playfulness in the company of friends gathered with her backstage, not sour grapes. if(!CMSB_ID){var CMSB_ID=""} CMSB_ID+="midarticle_elections,";document.write(''); "She was just messing around," spokesman Paul Freundlich told Reuters. "She didn't realize that the camera was rolling the whole time. ... She just thought they were doing a shot when they read the nominees off." He added: "Faith is the most mild mannered, funny and goofy individual you could ever meet." Manager Gary Borman said he has known Hill, who is married to fellow country star Tim McGraw, for many years and "the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being's success, is absolutely preposterous." "She was being playful while the nominations were being read, and playful after," he said. In a statement of her own, Hill said: "The idea that I would act disrespectful toward a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of the Year." Reuters/VNU

Also, at least in theory, both sides, in most races, have offered "good" candidates. The voters rejected the current course we were asked to stay on. You can't change the course without changing the leaders. Midterms are always tough when a President is having problems.
-
Jas, if it makes you feel any better, think of it like term limits. Good candidates lost in 2004 because the GOP begged for a chance to have it all and do it their way. So they had everything that could be gained by elections, then continued a campaign to discredit the Judicial Branch and the Fourth Estate. With every toy to play with, the results were not so hot. So now the voters have added the other party back into the mix. Perhaps, we can harness the best of both sides of the aisle and move ahead for the better.

One man, even in Rummy's position, will not make that big of a difference at this point. I wonder who the media will appoint to replace him.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Sorry, I got carried away. I love local and state politics. In many ways, so much more interesting than national. "All politics is local" Tip O'Neil -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Barak Obama will be one of the last, if not the last, to announce his canditacy if he indeed does go. He wants to make sure that there is a near groundswell BEGGING him to run, vs him begging other people to pay attention to him. Spot on. I'll go one step further, he's going to have to sit this one out and resist any attempts at making him a Veep candidate if he wants a clean shot at the White House.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) That's what I am really hoping for. I know in the meantime I am going to keep an eye out for the future, and keep an ear on what is being done in the community to change things. If things don't improve, there is no doubt I will run again in a couple of years. Like I said I am also thinking about maybe shooting even bigger next time, the one hang up is that Michigan City has been blue since the 70's, and yet things have gotten progressively worse. The 99 election almost got a red mayor, but they came up just short. I think I could build a solid platform there, I just don't know if I want to give up that much family time to do it. There are many more opportunities to make a huge difference in a community as a volunteer than as an elected official. -
QUOTE(mreye @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) I wouldn't expect anything less from him. It's really cool to see the calm, peaceful transition of power in our country. It's a testament to the vision of the founders.

I wonder what Bush thinks of Shock and Awe now

Those kids have more class and character than the father. I get so upset when I hear of adults doing this to kids.
