QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Your damn right, Bush wouldn't have been able to do it by himself. He had another great man there (potential president) right with him to help lead. Its one thing when you are handcuffed by others and its another when you are helped by others. Even the strongest and greatest leaders can't carry an entire nation on there backs. They need help from time to time (everyone does). And we couldn't have asked him to lead the elected leaders of LA, after all, he's only the President of the United States. He bows to them. Perhaps they needed to show some leadership with him. He couldn't have influenced their actions. Which is why we all agree that the President of the United States can not show any leadership around the world, after all, of he can't show any leadership with one of his states, how could he show any leadership with something in another country?

I place almost no value in individual prospects, so get a bunch of them and hope one pans out. There is no guarantee that any of these guys will make the 25 man roster, or once there have any impact. If we are scoring who wins this trade in 2007, I'd say Detroit. Perhaps down the road, if one of these guys pans out, the trade will need to be rethought. But I don't think the Yankees lineup is better without him. These guys didn't play for the Tigers. He's an upgrade for what they had. For that, I like this trade for Detroit.

This is a major victory for the anti-porn groups.

Gee, they are back up over $2 here. We don't think anyone manipulated gas prices!?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) So, and this goes for anyone who voted kinky...the racist stuff didn't bother you? It didn't bother me. I guess I missed any religious bias in the race. Kinky produced the "My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy" bumper sticker, so I guess he was the first to even mention religion. I never thought twice about it, I couldn't tell you for certain what denomination any of the other candidates are. I started out just being amused by Kinky and some of his speeches. Then I became intrigued because in between the one-liners he was making a lot of sense.

ding ding ding we have a winner. McCain QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) I am thinking in McCain's case, he could block some candidates from running if they know he's in the race. Often times a candidate has one shot and I think his decision will trigger a couple others. Bottom line, McCain announces to block. *cough*

NEW YORK (Billboard) -- Eddie Van Halen has brought his 15-year-old son, Wolfgang, into Van Halen as the veteran rock band's new bass player, a spokesperson told Billboard.com. Father and son, along with Eddie's drummer brother Alex, have been rehearsing for a 2007 tour, but it is unknown who will serve as the band's vocalist. (Wolfgang's substitution for original bass player Michael Anthony was first reported by news Web site TMZ.com a week ago.) Rumors continue to swirl that original singer David Lee Roth, who was replaced by Sammy Hagar in the mid-1980s, will return to the fold, despite years of enmity. Roth, who has recently worked as a radio DJ and a paramedic, told Billboard.com in May that he saw it "absolutely as an inevitability." No details have been provided about the departure of Anthony, a fan favorite who generally kept out of the internecine warfare in the band. As for the musical acumen of Wolfgang, Eddie Van Halen enthused to Howard Stern in September, "If I excel at the speed of sound, he excels at the speed of light. This kid is just a natural." Van Halen is one of nine acts on the ballot for the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Copyright 2006 Reuters. He was playing for a $5 cover at a 500 seat venue. My buddy kept calling out post DLR Van Halen tunes. A bouncer came up and said we were bumming David out, I said he went from playing with Van Halen to Tejano Salon, he SHOULD be bummed out!

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) On a somewhat similar note, today this extremely stupid pregnant girl (she's 17) was loudly making fun of an old man who had a heart attack and died while voting yesterday. It turns out that the man who died was the grandfather of one of our classmates. She sat about three feet from the stupid pregnant girl. Talk about awkward.. So umm, do you think he left you anything?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Perhaps you've heard of a better school just up highway 6? WHOOOPed every year by THE University of Texas! Fixed Their President just resigned for some civil servant patronage job with the government that his buddy arranged. What kind of an example does that set for the University if the University President could only get a government job?

QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 03:09 AM) This was a matter for the legal system. legally the Federal Government couldn't do anything until the State governemnt declared the disaster and asked for help. This is where the delay occurred. We are talking leadership here. Are you suggesting if it was a federal response, he would have been the one on the phone ordering pizzas and blankets? I am talking the kind of leadership he displayed during 9/11. The bullhorn at ground zero. Rallying Americans, who I believe are all on the federal level, to help. Pushing LA to do better. Inspiring. Leadership is the process in which a person influences others to achieve a task. If the President of the United States hides behind who is footing the bill, that is weak leadership.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) hold the phone.... he was only there for a year or so....does that even count? It must have felt like 10. I spent three days in Michigan City, it was the longest week of my life.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 06:30 AM) Um I think you missed the point. I think he is sick of it being one-sided, and then getting yelled at for responding in kind. I believe that was the motivation, but reading his paragraphs three and four, I believe my comments were directly to his points.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Jason's right, and you're right too, PA. Religion is a man made situation Some would argue that it is inspired by God and not so "man made". PA, that is a great line about hypocrites. Of course there are hypocrites in all areas of life. And it is far easier to spot a hypocrite that professes to a higher standard, regardless of belief. Not to pick on Jas and PA, but I will because they have been brave enough to post their beliefs here and elsewhere. First off, shall we use this definition? hypocrite: a person whose actions contradict their stated or internal beliefs. On one hand we have Jas, who wishes to be kind, nice, and basically a "good" person. PA, seemingly, by his stated adherence to a formal religious doctrine, has a higher standard to keep. If they both act like good humans, with an occasional shortcoming, who is more likely to be branded a hypocrite for picking up that porn? It will be PA who is trying to hit a higher standard and Americans love to chop the legs out from someone who is trying to hit that higher standard.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) You know what? Normally, I'll let this go, but since I got "called out"... I think the little smug remarks and all that s*** that is dispersed throughout without being near as direct as I was about it was right about par for the course. It's the "hidden hyperbole", if you will, that didn't get addressed by you. Every f***ing post by a few of you in here (and not you Soxy, I understand your point, but I stepped it up from the little digs to what you call "mocking and hyperbole"). If you want to start slinging s***, sling some both ways, and that includes some of you who responded to Soxy's comments to me. I think it's amazing that we have an election, where change was inevitable, and when that change occurs and even leads to more change, we get nothing but snarky, rude, dickhead veiled comments about how our President is nothing but a lying jackass. It grows tiresome, and my "hyperbole" is in direct response to that. That's all I will say about it, but you know who you are, and the jackassery should stop. Maybe then I wouldn't have to be "mocking all the time". If you read 90% of my other posts in other threads on this whole situation, it's pretty neutral. Interesting Kap. If I understand your opinion, the snarky, rude, dickhead, veiled comments should stop because the GOP lost both houses and Rumsfeld resigned. I see two problems with that 1. Perhaps the election results and the aftermath are vindication that Bush is actually all those things? and 2. When will the GOP stop bringing up good ol' number 42, William Jefferson Clinton? You are asking the Dems to stop in a day, when the GOP hasn't stopped in 14 years? Comparing this to past elections, we had those pretty maps that showed a huge landslide for Bush, who received 51% of the vote and the flip flop comments continued. Not mentioning this as justification, just showing these remarks are inevitable. The winners will gloat and try to make more of the election it is. The losers will try and mitigate the loss. Some people will have their pride hurt. The spinning will make everyone dizzy until we puke.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) To this day I blame the Katrina disaster on the crooked ass, idiocit politicians of Louisiana. Bush could have done a better job but he was the man who got blamed for the local/state politicians being dumb as stone. And in some instances Bush was ready to do things and the local/state people were not ready to make immediate decisions and stalled (which again led to delays in the relief effort). The whole thing was one big fiasco, but than again I say rebuilding an area that can be absolutely destroyed again (especially with the area being so vulnerable with broken levy's everywhere) is stupid as hell. Of course we needed to do something and my idea would have been scoffed at by everyone in New Orleans. Yeah, too bad Bush couldn't overcome "crooked ass, idiotic politicians of Louisiana" and lead. If the President of the United States gets sidetracked by "crooked ass, idiotic politicians of Louisiana" then he isn't much of a leader. Do you seriously believe that Reagan would have allowed "crooked ass, idiotic politicians of Louisiana" to stop him? But, taking your position then, you must give credit to the honest, intelligent politicians of New York instead of Bush for the response to 9/11. And that makes sense. I always wondered how he could have been so great at one, and sucked so bad at the other.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) My grandfather is a Normandy vet, and is very patriotic. I have talked to him the last few years about the struggle he has about putting the flag out in front of his house, ect. He didnt do it for a long time, but as he has gotten older, he has kinda taken the attitude of, "The hell with it, im more patriotic than anything else" However, it was interesting to hear the struggle he had on what to do.... I actually have a great deal of respect for the position of God is first, my Country second. I certainly would not disparage their patriotism or love of country.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) Im not a very religious person at all,but my grandfather is pretty sick right now, so I have started reading up on Jehovah's witnesses, which he is. Pretty odd stuff. I will give my grandfather credit, he has NEVER tried to push it on me, which I appreciate. I've had to start some research as well. There is a young man I want to hire for my Boy Scout High Adventure Sea Base, but as a Jehovah's Witness, he does not say the Pledge of Allegiance. They place their only Pledge to God.
