I'll probably do some ferrel hog and dove this year. Deer are just too expensive in Texas.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) Your story reminds me of a time when I went in one of those Haunted House Rides at a Theme Park in Malaysia on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur a few years back. I remember a similar haunted house in Monte Carlo that I went to. All I can remember is Prince Rainier is such a wuss, hiding behind me with his eyes closed.

The Top 5 Signs You're About to Be Dumped (Part I) [/color] "I think we should start seeing other people. And by 'we' I mean 'I.' And by 'should' I mean 'have been.' And by 'other people' I mean 'your best friend.' I'll let you figure out what 'seeing' means." You ask your Magic 8 Ball if she's going to dump you and it says, "Signs point to a prolonged period of masturbation, Loser McDumpy." You're pretty sure "Adios, b****!" wasn't really the answer to every question on last night's "Jeopardy!" She's removed you from her friends list on MySpace and her buddy list on AIM, and is currently attacking her tattoo with a cheese grater.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(bunkerf16 @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) It's sad you can't just congratulate your opponent without trying to tear them down....sounds a lot like sour grapes to me........guess that's to be expected though..... In case you noticed you are on a White Sox message board. We can have all the sour grapes we want. If you don't like sour grapes, there are a couple very nice Detroit sports message boards. QUOTE(bunkerf16 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Actually I have been on the board almost all year because as a Tigers fan, I enjoy hearing the opinions of other teams and their fans..........there is no saying how anyone is going to perform next year based on this year's results.....to assume the Tigers will regress because you guys did this year is as silly as me saying we'll get to the playoffs again next year because the Red Sox and Yankees do it every year..... One thing I think I can say with confidence is that with us, the Sox, the Twins and the Indians, the AL Central will be the toughest division in all of baseball next year.......should be a great year......... If you've been on the board for a year, why did you just register on Sept 1 2006?

Any backpackers here?
This may be a very short, two person thread, but just in case we have some other lovers of the outdoors and getting far away from roads and vehicles, I'd give a try. My old and fat body needs a more comfy sleep surface. I am looking at retiring my Ridgerest and going to a self inflator or Big Agnes pad. I love the Ridgerest for it's bombproof nature. I am thinking that carrying the Ridgerest and perhaps a small 3/4 Thermarest or equal would make sense. I would be using the Ridgerest outside as a lounger/chair and for additional insulation and cush. The weight would be about the same, but I worry about the bulk and the dip from the 3/4 to the full sided pad. Being 6'1", I do stretch the full length of a pad.

The mortgage bomb looms
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) If I remember right I think the FY '06 deficit counts as 1.9% of GDP. That is immaterial to me though. We REALLY REALLY need to stop spending so much money. My way of doing that would be a spending freeze to allow revenues to catch up to expenditures. A Line Item veto would be nice also and disallowing spending riders ( forcing a vote on each spending bill on its own merits ) would do much as well. While I greatly respect President Reagan, he sold us a couple lies. The biggest was spend and don't tax government. I have respect for tax and spend politicians and respect for don't spend and cut taxes politicians. The spend and don't tax is our ruin. We have lost the connection of why we pay taxes, and that is to pay for our government. Sadly, if anyone in media would report that, they would be labeled as liberally biased, and if a judge somehow showed it was unconstutional to spend more than the revenue, they would be labeled as activist judges.

Article about Mariotti from Chicago mag
Actually his style of writing is arguably tougher than the suck up to get an interview style of many columnists. You could basically rewrite a team press release, and call it a day. By pissing fans off daily, he opens himself up to this sort of criticism. He has to be more accurate and have a better base of supporting facts than to come out and write in a Chicago paper, the Bears will win the super bowl. A fluff piece like that a couple times a week would have the sheep-like fans calling him a genious and never questioning anything he writes.

Article about Mariotti from Chicago mag
As I have said before. The funniest thing about Jay's columns are the reactions from fans. I'll see posters here ripping something all day and night, the next day Jay will write the same thing, and everyone goes nuts how he is an idiot. Look at the track records of these teams Hawks 1961 Sox 2005 Cubs way back Bears 1986 Bulls - ok, they had a run A columnist like Mariotti has a field day here.

No more online gambling?
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) Good Lord. Sportsbook is charging $30 for a withdrawl via a check through Fedex or an e-check. It used to be free. Congress can blow me. This is just going to put more money in the pockets of the mob and other illegal bookies. Just a small clarification, these are/where illegal. These forms of gambling where never legal. It just took congress this much time to figure out a way to rewrite the old laws to apply to new technology. Did you happen to notice that none of the companies had their servers or offices in the US?

Sox moving press box
We are assuming, and probably correctly, that this is coming out of the fixing the stadium fund and not a we invest $2,000,000 and make $4,500,000 fund. It is also interesting that seemingly if they make a change to the stadium that increases profits, they can't use those profits to help the team on the field. Seems like a bad deal for the fans.

Daley "cameras on almost every block by 2016
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) That was my point. I don't want on on every corner either. But you also cannot force warrants for targeted, plain sight surveillance because its already legally acceptable - in the form of police officers. The reason for that, by the way, is that police have the same legal ability to observe things in plain view that any other citizen can. You cannot take that away from the police and not regular citizens. Police officers and other citizens are intended to be on an even playing field in that sense. The rights that police have were given to them, through our legislative process. I don't see a reason to treat cameras the same as a police officer. While I accept that a live person can be there and observe, I draw the line at being recorded on camera in a public place.

Daley "cameras on almost every block by 2016
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) If its a public space, you don't need a search warrant. Police don't need a warrant to patrol and observe what goes on in plain sight. But otherwise, yes, I agree - specific use of cameras for targeted observation and enforcement are OK by me. Under current lawsyou do not. I do not wish to live in a society where we are under constant 24/7 survelience. I have not committed a crime and do not wish to be treated like a criminal. I think it is creepy that the government wants to watch me anytime I am in public.

If so, how many other links did he have to go through to find the one that actually was it? Step One: Spot a tin of spotted dick in the local grocer. Step Two: Stand there and laugh and think, I have to share this with everyone Step Three: Google Heinz spotted dick, didn't want some poor imposter

Daley "cameras on almost every block by 2016
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) I think its getting excessive. I am OK with targeted enforcement with a camera, because its no different than cops on patrol in terms of intrusion (targeted meaning specific high crime areas, or intersections with a lot of accidents and school zones for traffic enforcement). But to attempt to blanket the city in cameras is no longer analogous to police patrol - its too far. That's the first time I have hearg that analogy, and I like it. I've never been a fan of any cameras, but that has me thinking that in a specific place, for a specific reason, based on a specific need, with a specific time frame, and perhaps appoved like a search warrant, I could see agreeing it is a good thing.
