QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) And also, it'd be nice to know whether or not it was all the fault of the Jews. I would like to nominate myself for a "he who laughs last" award. 21 hours after reading this and saying "huh" I finally get the Mel Gibson reference.

Minimum Wage Passes House
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:55 AM) Maybe the opposition should call their bluff and pass it. They'll get their new minimum wage. No wait. That can't happen, because the Republicans would then get the credit. We can't have that now, can we? Block it! Yep, both sides play the same game. It would end of conservatives complained about the GOP using it and liberals would complain about the Dems doing it. Complaining about the other party just ratchets up the us v. them that is quickly dividing the country and allowing out elected representatives to do whatever the hell they want. Citizens need to fix their own parties first.

Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Wrong. There are going to be A LOT more people getting high because the drug is legalized and a large percentage of this new demographic is going to be driving around high. I'm not certain I agree, perhaps there will be a decrease in DUI/alcohol. I would like to know if pot is abused more than alcohol and if there are many people who would get high, but not get drunk, and if they would be likely to drive. It is cause for concern.

Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) It so stupid to call pot a gateway drug. What % of people have used alcohol and/or tobacco before using any kind of drug? How come those are never called "gateway" drugs? Oh right, because we collect taxes on them and they are legal. It's also important to mention how much money will be lost by the big time drug dealers if their product became more easily attainable. I agree that you can link many items from mother's milk to McDonalds cheesburgers as precedents to hard core drug use. I believe part of the gateway is the procurement process. You can not buy heroin from the local tobacco shop. The liquor store probably isn't selling crack. By legalizing pot, and bringing it into the liquor stores and bars, it takes it out of the drug dealers. Hence my statement. Pot is usually the first illegal drug used.

ACLU at it again.
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) If that were the case, why do they never defend gun owners who feel their civil rights are violated? Because they have an agenda. That is why they interpret the second amendment with a much 'softer' stance than they do all the rest. If the applied the same standards to gun rights as they do to the supposed 'sepration of church and state', they would be advocating mandatory gun ownership for all. Also, I believe it was brought up earllier that the ACLU has to be asked first, otherwise they can file amicus curiae briefs (I think that's what they are called) in support of positions it favors, but was not asked to help. Part of their "agenda" is giving a voice to those that don't have one. We have a very powerful gun lobby in this country. When the lowest are protected, we are all protected. I can't stand those idiots, but if they are allowed their free speech rights, I sleep better at night knowing you and I can debate and not worry about who is in power and the secret thought police knocking down our doors. Heads, add me to that list.

Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
I have never smoked the stuff so maybe my views are out of step and naive, but it seems to me that most of the problems would be solved by legalizing marijuana. It would stop being a "gateway" and the quality should increase, avoiding the poisons that reportedly have been introduced. We could lower enforcement costs and increase taxes. I don't see a downside besides the usual ones that are also shared by alcohol and cigarettes.

Minimum Wage Passes House
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) You know as well as I do that the reason why we have so many different taxes, deductions, and so forth has nothing to do with making it easier to raise taxes. We have so many because each lobbyist with a ton of cash comes up with some exemption that will benefit his particular employer, and therefore it gets written into the tax code. Exemptions only exist if there is a tax. So someone has an idea for a new tax, lobbyists figure out how to keep those with access from paying it, and a new tax is introduced. I believe we are both correct. My point is it is easier to pass 100 $5 taxes than one $500 tax.

Minimum Wage Passes House
Ditto on the packing a bitter pill in a piece of candy. I think it is wrong whenever it's used. We have moved waaay too far from why we even pay taxes. First off we allow the government to collect money to pay for running this country. Not to stimulate the economy or anything like that. It's to pay for the services and benefits that the citizens receive. How we collect those taxes shouldn't be so complex. Why have 1,000s of taxes? So they can pass increases easier. We need a simpler tax system and more accountability from those that are intrusted to spend that money. No more pretending there are free lunches. Balance the damn budget and if you can't, raise taxes or lower spending. I want a statement at the end of the year that details every tax I paid, fuel taxes, income tax, sin taxes, property taxes, gains taxes, government user fees, etc. etc.

Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
What we seem to want to do is become a third world country and give so much power to the government. I am amazed how people want to allow the government total access to their lives. They trust the legal system totally. (Thank God they got the OJ verdict right). Somehow it has become the more conservative people who demand more government intervention. More government powers. About opposite of the small government, less laws, less government interference, ideals of my father's brand of conservatism. There is a balance in handling prisoners and it varies by the crime and the prisoner. A times, prisoners have had it too easy, now a pendulum is swinging too far the other side. In the grand scheme of things, no big deal. It will always come back to center.

It seemed like homers are flying, I received the updates on every homer run and late lead changes. Cy Garland is showing that last year wasn't a fluke, and wtf Mark? Jenks seems to be struggling also.

Karoake
I have zero musical ability, can't carry a tune with a handle. I am going to have to sing one karoake song soon and am trying to pick something that is short, and easy to sing. Of course it should also be very popular so I can be assured it will be on their list. I am thinking of making this a comedy thing and singing a parody version of something.
